Just thought I'd share a quick tip regarding a bug I've encountered while using my N900. Don't think it affects everyone, but I've looked around and there seems to be some of us being affected by it.
Details on my device model:
Model type: AP set
Version: 3.2010.02-8
Basically, I was trying to download apps via the Application Manager using my home wi-fi connection. Before this, I was browsing on the web browser just fine on my wi-fi connection. When I selected the 'Download' option on the screen, the Application Manager could not retrieve any information from the app servers. This only happens when I use a wi-fi connection to connect to the Internet. If I'm using my 3G network to connect to the Internet, I am able to download apps using the Application Manager.

From my understanding, the cause of this problem seems to be that the N900 is using its own DNS settings for wi-fi connections to try to resolve the domain names of the app servers. By default (well, in my device anyway), the current DNS server that the device is using is 127.0.0.1, which is basically the device itself. Since the device cannot resolve the domain names, it cannot connect to the app servers.
I found a solution online (from the link above) which helps to resolve this issue. The idea is to change the DNS settings so that it points to a proper DNS server so that it will be able to resolve the app server domain names. In order to do this, one would need to edit their 'resolv.conf' file, stored in '/etc/' folder. Easiest way to do this is through the X Terminal and using the vi editor.
[WARNING] Editing configuration files may cause your device to not function properly. Proceed at your own risk.
[Note] Preferable requirements: basic knowledge on Linux commands, usage of vi.

Hope this helps those who are affected!
