Aloha guys... Joining the club! Poor dad got one of these babies from a friend (and I was like, what the...). He couldn't figure it out at all, and offered a trade for my N97 Mini for it...

To which I scrambled and dumped all data from the N97 like my life depended on it. Lol.

Now hacking Easy Deb into the thing, the installer is as slow as flying monkeys on ADD drugs. PR1.2 RC seems fun, but will wait until it leaves bleeding edge first lol. Never was the one to test RCs back in me Linux days anyways.

Another way to differentiate real & fake is just by trying to carry it.Most of the nokla phones are lighter compared to real N900

Almost ALL other phones are lighter compared to the real N900... It's like a brick, with a fat ass penguin inside lol... biggrin.gif

On a lighter note (lol), anybody know of any Easy Deb Financial apps that CAN run on Maemo through Chroot without having to run to LXDE? Tried GNUCash and opening 1 account pissed all over my screen (ok button was covered up), and there was no way that I found to set the fonts to something that wouldn't do this. I was also wondering if we can make all the programs run with smaller fonts, some sort of Easy Debian wide appearance settings app? Haven't found it yet, forgive me if I missed something.

Maybe we should keep a list of Easy Deb apps that can work well native.

Oh, and anybody managed to make Blue Maemo work with their Vista PCs?

Messing with the alt-tabbing emulation on hildon-modified (ctrl+bspace works like alt-tab). Very, very fun... UNTIL you get a msg/email notification, which ctrl+bspace will UTTERLY mess up. It works ONLY if you use the taskman soft button.

Also, modded most of the system sounds. Ah, the great joy of unrestricted hacking.

Shame there isn't a PROPER file manager on Meamo yet. CuteExplorer works for the most part, but it's still not THAT stable.

Mmmm, smooth w/o OC... With OC sure smoother... drool.gif

Though will all this "may damage your device" warnings being thrown about, I'm gonna wait for the non RC release of PR1.2 myself. It's funny though, the moment anyone goes "sudo gainroot", he/she has already crossed into "may damage your device" territory lol... biggrin.gif

Now gonna play around with Queen BeeCon... Shame I have to save up for a secondary Symbian phone later SIMPLY for the convenience of Garmin, oh well.

Funny about those warnings, when we enable and install apps from devel and/or testing, already steps into "may damage your device" territory, Sames goes to flashing to MeeGo terminal version (which is much more unstable), same goes for flashing/dual booting other OS, same goes for over-clocking.
Heck, N900 is so open and powerful, you can easily step into those territory. It's dangerous when novice users do it, but it doesn't mean novice users can't improve. It's through learning, experience, users gain more experience and become more skilled.
Just like flashing, 1st time novice users will be like "Oh gosh!", after they tried and do a few times, they become more experience. If they face problem and tried to find solution, research, and fix it, they gain more experience and skill, also understand more.

N900 is a great device, although it benefits more experienced and skilled users, but it's also a learning device for novice users, and the learning path is long and a lot to learn, which is a good thing. It can make someone from a novice become a very experience and knowledgeable in smartphone.

I'm thankful I've dabbled in *nix before, so I'm not quite as lost as some others might be. I practically salivated at the idea of playing around in xterm, though truthfully, I kinda miss a full-sized keyboard for that... hmm.gif

I did squirm in pleasure a bit when I realized I could run full deb programs though, even though most of them wouldn't even run well outside of LXDE. I mean, it's my dream come true, a computer in me pocket (FINALLY, after the X51v --> 5800 --> N97 mini)! Shame about the crapped out USB OTG functionality though.

Might just buy a Mobiadapter mSD --> USB adaptor and hack it to make a USB port later for the N900 lol, if the N900 is still alive by then lar... brows.gif

do u guys know anything about flashing an older version maemo from newer version can cause PROBLEMS!!!  rclxub.gif

3 things mess up today:

1. virtual keyboard not working - cause : after install and uninstall chinese input

2. hardware keyboard not functioning as it should be... - cause : ditto

3. after a reflash, my n900 won't detect my sim card.... - cause : reflash from PR1.2 back to PR1.1

so....more work to do now...

There was a LONG forum thread on Maemo.org about this, the whole "may damage your N900" thing was about this IINM... sweat.gif

Running PR1.1.1 on an only god knows where from AP set over here (it's a hand me down to begin with), no issues what so ever with the camera and exposure settings.

Runs a bit hot surfing on full 3G while overclocked, which is to be expected. Thankfully it's still a whole lot colder compared to how hot my 5800 used to run while being run as a 3G-WIFI router.

Now trying to figure out how to create Queen Beacon buttons to change me overclock profiles on the fly; already have a whole bunch of em all over ala Samurize. Jakiman over a maemo forums edi did something similar, trying to reverse enginner what he did isn't as easy as I'd thought.

It's all semak, trust me. I say samurize but it's mostly text output meters.

The heat is most probably from the battery.
*
Hmm, I think so as well. Batt as long been the source of heat problems for me ever since the 5800. The N97 Mini was better in this aspect, so I'm starting to suspect that the BL-5J doesn't really handle heat well, somehow.

Thinking of modprob'ing the bq27x00_battery module (included in Titan's kernel) and using a script to monitor battery heat through the module. Anybody with any idea of how I can mount the module automatically at boot?

After which, the next main problem being WHERE to put the blardy widget. I'm running out of space edi.

Serendipity... brows.gif

Anyways guys, thinking of getting an OtterBox Commuter case for my Kyureii-Tan, my self made hard back case (I ripped the housing out of a cheapo leather-fake case) is quickly loosing its ability to stay on my frigin phone. Shame the guy bringing it in over here doesn't seem to have it, thinking of ordering online for next month's pay.

Pics for your enjoyment:

If it lasts a good long time, why not? A capdase soft jacket advanced is like RM60 edi (though I usually buy it for 30 something).

Anyone tried VertSMS yet? Already in Extras-Devel.
*
Doesn't play well with the normal conversation app it seems last i checked. Messages are not saved as part of the outgoing stream. Do not like.

As of now, will train my single left thumb typing skills and 180 degree reading skills to compensate for the lack of portraitness in sms/im. At least until vert-sms starts playing well with the built in apps (or, god forbid, PR1.3 comes with full portrait support).

And I just realised that in MicroB, the reply page here at LYN is a bit funky due to the moving smilies on the side.

Oh, and anybody here also suffering from th odd portrait bug after calling? Makes me a tad sad that it's a crippling bug rather than a ordinary feature.
