Just bought HP mini latest 210, the touch pad is quite cool, I am switching a macbook 13 white to this one, technically it is a downgrade, but my OS from Win XP pro switch to Window 7 starter... quite a new experience...

PS: TS please add me into the list. Thanks.

After using it for few days:

I can feel the "handicap" after switching from Intel Core2Duo 2.26 to Intel Atom 1.6 G, the feeling is like, it is changing/reducing my preference level on entertainment side such as movie/anime quality.

For your info, this netbook as the explanation implies, no problem for office work and some entertainment by its specs, regardless 1GB or 2GB. But for movie/anime viewing, when playing HD or even HQ video files, its ATOM processor cant follow up the processing.

Samples for testing
1 episodes of anime(HD/HQ) = 23 mins = 300-350 MB ==> voice are actually faster than video motion quite a while, and it needs 2 DVD for storage for a complete set of episodes per anime.

1 episodes of anime(low/medium) = 23 mins = 120-150 MB ==> smooth

So basically 24 episodes of an anime for medium quality is about 4GB< sizes < 4.5G = 1 single layer DVD = convenient for storage

Although the quality of view is dropped considerably, but it kinda "forcing" me to collect and burn anime into a more organized, and cheaper manner.

I still need a external burner and a CD/DVD emulation software for games and DVD burning, which cost me around:

RM100(for alcohol 52%, for window 7, purchase online)
RM200(for most of the external burner)

I need some help from all the HP mini fans, someone can provide an alternatives for free CD/DVD emulation software without trial period imposed (totally free, compatible with window 7 starter edition) ?

PS3? sorry if offended, but when you stream movie to LCD via PS3, then what are you using your HP mini for?

the movie is stored in my HP mini.. all this being done wireless.

and 1 more thing wanna ask.. is upgrading to 2gig ram shows a big difference  for you guys?
*
I see, but after all the machine done the main processing is your PS3, not your mini, praise HP mini pulak as if it can play HD/HQ smoothly sweat.gif sweat.gif

Yes upgrading to 2GB ram is quite a difference in speed of loading your program faster. Though multi process run concurrently still have to depend on the ATOM 1.6Ghz's delay LOL...

hehe.. i dunno how to explain.. but if u use ps3 media server.. the quality of the picture will depend on the CPU of ur pc.. the higher we put the quality level the higher cpu will suffer...  my old pc (P4) lag when palying those.. my core 2 duo work flawlessly same as my HP mini.

u mean add another 2gig ram? all together is 3gig? or there's only 1 slot we can use?

Erm, you try to play it with HP mini alone and see hehe... mine 2GB ram also feel voice faster than motion pictures, not lag though...

Currently using my 210, so far so good for my leisure times after work(3-5 hrs)

Movies/Anime: Can play any videos below than 920p, but a bit spiky if you got some app run at background when playing 720p, need to stop all the running app including antivirus update to play it smoothly.

Gaming: Might be able to play some 4-5 years ago games, along with lagging due to the ATOM low processing power and graphic card limitation. Runs well for Eroge games, Girl games, and low-mid end games.

Overall:

Well you cant compare the speed of your netbook with Alienware gaming laptop though... the speed is normal as it is what you get from a netbook... Just like AE86, it got its own limits too...

If you keeping it on with battery + charging, it will wear out way faster.

You need a better laptop for office work.
