if we use IPTV, does it use up the cap also? or IPTV doesnt touch on the caps?

As mentioned earlier, IPTV will be using a dedicated bandwidth. It will not affect the internet usage whatsoever so you don't have to worry whether you will reach the limit or not because it only applies on the internet itself.

Channels are the least of worries now as they will more added later on. What most of us want now is TM to be more generous on the capping limit.

aside from the internet service, the mini Astro and free phone service is a big sell for me. im thinking of stopping astro service after the world cup.

will TM or other terrestrial channels broadcast the world cup?

No idea about it

since RM150 is not much different than RM110, id jump ship now

im moving out of the house in subang by the end of the year though. and if the new place in KOta Damansara doesnt have HSBB, will i be penalized? biggrin.gif

Which is why I'm still considering lol since we are paying RM110 including phone rental the price for 5mbps isn't big difference but it's the cap.. but we will wait and see laugh.gif

Your justification doesn't make sense.

Shouldn't be fiber optic has lower latency? From what I see now it is still more or less the same with ADSL. What could be the cause?

It does have lower latency. Take my 4mbps Streamyx.. ping to TM servers is 15-20ms, Unifi is only 1-2ms tops. It cuts off over 10ms. They probably also use different routes but the technology itself definitely gives it an edge over ADSL.

To local no doubt about it, but what about to international? Due to congestion? Or is it TM is not competent enough for managing the network well?

I would not know, really. To say, tunnel1.wowtunnels.com (US wow tunnel server), its about 193ms.

International latency is hard to control. The fibre local latency is amazing as has been posted by some of the users. As a previous metrofon user, I can tell you that local pings are great.

However, if you're going international, depending on where your traffic is routed your ping will always increase. Its not like you have fibre optic connections all the way to every server in the world.

Ok then, thanks for answering guys user posted image

8mbps within the IPTV network. If I were to say, start an OpenVPN daemon on my desktop and wire it to both the Internet and IPTV network.. you would be able to connect to my PC via the IPTV network and utilize 8mbps of my internet line via the IPTV VPN link. With round robin gateway load balancing setup you could get 10+8mbps but it would be a hassle to set up every time.

This is just technically what should be possible. Right now, I've done some tests and I can ping and establish connections to every set top box thats connected on the IPTV network. However, I still need to test the bandwidth of the link as everyone is just assuming its 8mbps.

A better use for this would be for us to set up a private network over or something for guaranteed unmetered 8mbps smile.gif

This sounds interesting, if I had unifi set up I would be glad to test it for you.
