U guys are lucky people to already start enjoying UniFi. God knows when they will actually widen their coverage to other areas.

Rest assured that when Unifi bandwidth starts to have caps, so does Streamyx.
*
IMHO,based on contract for streamyx, there are no caps. Unlimited usage remember. They can only throttle

can only terminate end of june. CS said just use unifi until end on june and pay only the same amount as 4mb. after june terminate streamyx then pay the full amount of unifi
*
I called unifi cs to check on this.
I told the cs that I've been using streamyx longer than the minimum 1 year contract, so can I just terminate it once I get unifi installed.
After checking with someone, he said I can only terminate after June. I asked him, what if I proceed with terminating my streamyx account, will my unifi be blocked or something? He said he's not sureit's better if I check with Streamyx dept.

Will try and terminate my account and see what happens. biggrin.gif

Yes, but the wiring has nothing to do with your phone lines. For UniFi installation, they will be using 2 types of fiber optics

(1) Black (from the FTTH boxes on the poles to the Broadband Termination Unit(BTU)
(2) White (from BTU to the Fiber modem)

That's it. The hardest part comes from getting the Black fiber to your house because that might require some drilling. After that's done, the rest is easy.

I think all the drilling is optional. You can request for laying the cable over the roof or something with no or minimal drilling...but you need to nego with the contractor for the quote.

Quick review:

Internet - 9/10 -> you get about 80% of advertised speed and it's very stable... so far... currently with no caps or throttling the connection is fantastic

IPTV - 6/10

Content - 5/10 -> really not very interesting content yet
VOD - 8/10 -> cool feature, but very limited content at the moment, bad picture quality, only has stereo audio, problems with aspect ratios
Picture Quality - 5/10 -> SD channels are nasty looking and has a lot of flicker, sports are almost unwatchable -> HD channels are okay but not great -> no control over Aspect Ratios - everything is stretched to 16:9
Audio Quality 7/10 -> No surround available, analog outputs have a LOT of noise, HDMI has medium noise, Optical s/pdiff is clean but there's a digital pop when changing channels - not TM's fault but the hardware can't handle TV3 / 8TV / TV9 audio very well - These channels randomly broadcast stereo / mono audio - so you'll have both speakers playing for stereo, but only the left speaker playing for mono signals

Telephone - 5/10 -> the good: cordless / call display -> the really really bad - the phone has audible crackling which will probably force me to keep my existing phone line.

Triple Play rating - 6.66 / 10

for improving their speed, TM need to upgrade their core switch to Cisco CRS-3 Carrier Routing System ASAP.

this is the shit, 322 terabit per seconds. this switch can transfer every single movie hollywood have ever made in under four minutes.
