The cap is ridiculous.

5mbps with 60GB cap?
Then the biggest package is 120GB?

It doesn't even scale, you get 4x the speed but only twice the bandwidth limit? wtf?

I would likely subscribe if the 5mbps package comes with 120-150GB limit. 60GB is way too little for that kind of speed.

Might be more worth it to pay for the biz package.

Hi All,

I just called HSBB Hotline to double confirm.

All the download for bandwidth cap, is included for local, if you using download from local ip more than 60gb, you consider reach the limit.
*
wow, that is ridiculous

I would understand capping international connections, but LOCAL ones too? You sure the person you talked to knows anything?

The caps are not a problem, but its way too low. I would prefer to see something like 150GB cap on 5mbps, which seems alot more reasonable to me considering the speed.

5Mbps cap 60G is seriously a joke
1hr usage at max 5M already 18G
so 3.5hrs at max speed u have finished ur quota
*
your maths sudah salah

5mbps = megabits

cap = gigabytes

So the correct maths is

5120kbps / 8 = 640kBps

640kBps is your maximum speed, assume a 80% maximum throughput (you can't get 100% speeds)
640 * 0.8 = 512kBps

So each minute you can get
512 * 60 = 30720 = 30MB

An hour you can download
30720 * 60 = 1843200 = 1.8GB

So in an hour, you download roughly 1.8GB, not 18GB.

@silver: but still, 1 hour of full speed is already 1.8GB, it's gonna take just a day or 2 for heavy downloaders to finish their bandwidth..
then again, maybe we are just too used to the no bandwidth limit connection that we used to have
*
Yea, which is why the 60GB limit is stupid. It doesn't even scale properly with the packages.

At maximum speeds, we would already finish our daily cap within 1 hour. If this is going to be used as our broadband initiative, then why are they limiting us like this? If we watched any HD content online, we're screwed. Not to mention LOCAL CONTENT which is what they are pushing for, supposedly that is part of the cap as well.

With such a low cap, what's the point of going for such a package? Its pointless, you won't be able to use it 90% of the time because you exceeded your cap.

For people with hsbb supported areas right now they get it for free for 3 whole months with free installation. You think they won't sign up ????

What i am unsure is, is after 3 months can they cancel or are they stuck to a 2 year contract ????
*
I'm in TTDI

But I won't be subscribing even if its free. The cap is just too low, I might consider the biz package (I do have a registered company) laugh.gif

Package should be like this imho:

RM149 = 150GB Quota
RM199 = 300GB Quota
RM249 = 450GB Quota

And yea, does if have peak time and off peak for downloading?
Its seems like so unreasonable for quota given.
*
I believe caps should scale with speed

so

5/10/20 = 150/300/600

Otherwise it doesn't really make sense if u have faster speeds but lower cap.

Lets do a bit of calculation for their 60GB(2GB/day) limit.

Lets assume you only use the internet for 8 hours a day. That would mean 2048/8 = 409MB per hour = 113kBps = 904kbps

So basically, you're paying for 5mbps line.. to use an average of 904kbps for 8 hours a day.

You might as well stick to a basic streamyx plan laugh.gif

QUOTE(BBXiong @ Mar 25 2010, 01:20 PM)
guys, finally managed to talk to UniFi ppl..
here's the answers so far that i gotten:

if u hit daily bandwidth cap, ur speed will be capped to 1M

if u hit the bandwidth cap and still want to continue using full speed, u need to pay extra charges to get it, and the extra charges will be calculated based on the extra GB that u have used after the bandwidth limit

Upload is not included in the 60GB limit

for peak hour, it will be 90% speed, and non-peak will be 95%

as for now, u CANNOT get rid of that IPTV package

there might be some other stuff that i asked but forgotten..just ask here, maybe if i did ask and forgot to include here, i'll reply u too
overall, it does sucks, for now...i have made suggestion that cut off IPTV and give cheaper price, and also told her that out of the 100 ppl in this forum, 99 says bandwidth limit too little, and it would be a lot more better if they can increase the bandwidth limit
*
capping at 1mbps isn't too bad. Any confirmation of that in writing somewhere instead of just word of mouth?

Did you ask how much they charge per gb after the bandwidth limit?

eiii~~ u all dont main main complaint a....later they raise the normal streamyx price to Rm 130/month for 1mbps capped at 10gb per month....force u all to get HSBB...habis that time.. biggrin.gif
*
that time people will just unsubscribe to tmnet and see what happens laugh.gif

We're not the bulk of the users, most of the low income people are, and if they pull out cause prices become too exorbitant, tmnet rugi besar.

WTF i dowan IPTV can or not? why must it be a FORCED bundle package with the line?
*
marketing, its a way to increase the IPTV penetration and get people to use it. Its the only way they would get people to have it, otherwise no one would want it, after all the programs on it aren't stellar in the first place.

They need some penetration, so they can leverage with content providers for more channels.

EXPENSIVE and Bodoh!!! thats all I can say...Guess wat...when I was in the UK year 2008..I was paying 9 Pounds for 8Mbps Unlimited Broadband..and my downloads speed is about 700-800Kbps...

9 Pounds = approximately RM54 (that time is 6x)

Their packages is 8Mbps , 16Mbps and 20Mbps...
I know I shouldn't compare with the prices in UK where bandwidth is cheap, but if you want market penetration, you need to make it affordable, ie. 5Mbps at RM 88 , scrap the Streamyx 1Mbps off!!

Disclaimer : this is just my PERSONAL opinion....
*
Not to mention you earn in pounds if u stay there, so 9 pounds, you can easily earn from working part-time for an hour or less.

Here, RM88? Working part time nets you like RM5 if you're lucky laugh.gif

Whats the use???
*
yea man, wouldn't mind having some "local shares" like we used to have for metrofon. That was awesome for a while until their networks had some serious problems. Metro-LAN FTW!

Oh well, my streamyx is much better than HSBB.

If 24h/7days for 1 month, I can reach 700GB. So, streamyx better than HSBB. doh.gif

Actually, by now we should be maju already. I think you know why we're not laugh.gif

Oh hang on a second. upload not counted toward cap ?? only download ??

So can still do webhosting and xdcc share and it won't affect your bandwidth quota isn't it biggrin.gif ??? someone correct me if i am wrong.
*
Yea, it won't, but if your download hits the limit, your upload is likely going to be capped to 1mbps as well.

However if you're doing a server, you're likely to be downloading about as much as you upload. Not to mention if we are going to doing metro-LAN shares, we would be uploading as much as we download due to the sharing.

If they made metro-LANs possible with HSBB that doesn't count to your quota, It would be enough for me to switch to HSBB, provided enough of us get onboard and share locally.

whats a metro lan ???
*
Metro LAN is like a normal lan, just over large distances. For example, I'm in TTDI, and another person is in bangsar, if we're on a metrolan, we can transfer and connect to each other as if it were a normal local area network. We would get similar speeds as well.

I used to use metrofon which had that ability, and some of us hosted ftp servers and the like with loads of stuff to share, so we didn't really need to download from international. Someone would download, others grab from him. Much faster that way, and in a way we distributed downloads amongst the community, reducing the need to go "international".
