QUOTE(toda_erika_II @ Mar 28 2010, 02:34 AM)
but my question was, are you going to work in something related to your current field, or are you going to do something like...more universal one, customer service, executive manager, etc?
*
That depends on what im offered with. To be honest im okay with anything tht pays me well (note-legal jobs only) Infact i think im good in PR/writing or anything tht requires IQ and general knowledge. I have to admit i think differently from people sweat.gif which is troublesome at times biggrin.gif

QUOTE(JeromeDubois @ Mar 28 2010, 02:35 AM)
Oh then maybe I should ask "who introduced the idea" to you first? Or was it all you and if it was, what were you thinking?
*
Well it wasnt my idea but someone told me i would excel in it, it requires thinking and bla bla bla. I just followed blindly. I was only 16++ then, too naive.
But at the end it was all theoretical and memorizing which im totally bad at cry.gif
I had dreams of studying in some ivy league in uk/us , pursuing english language/english lit/journalism/political science. I visioned myself working with UN/CNN/BBC/Nat geo doh.gif doh.gif I thought of going into social service stuffs and helping people in rural parts of the world, defending human rights and bla bla bla. My parents thought it was totally crazy and they knew im bold when i write. They were more afraid of me making enemies and ending up in ISA My mom says i write by my emotions instead of logic. Indian family's typial thinking- medicine but then i refused coz i din want my parents to end up being penniless smile.gif So i just listened to the only viable suggestion i got

QUOTE(JeromeDubois @ Mar 28 2010, 02:49 AM)
Ok I understand it now. That's a tough break and sadly it happens to most kids. It happens due to lack of proper guidance and yet why is it happening so much? Why are parents not guiding their kids more carefully? I would like to think that I can help my kid my decisions that will ultimately serve the purpose of happiness above everything else.
*
But i would say my parents never forced me into anything though. Today that they realise i am good at what i like, they have like sort of understood me. I guess they were just afraid their only daughter would get herself into trouble biggrin.gif During schooling years itself i started writing on political stuffs and they got scared of it i guess, hahaha

But few days back, my mom totally told me sumthng tht i like- she told me to work in any field i like and not to listen to anyone or not to bother about any negative comments i might get for choosing to work out of my field

jerome - but when your kid choose something, they thought that's what they really want.
*
Most of the time thats what they really want. Trust me 30/40 years down the road, they might think back of what would have gave them the most pleasure

Im pretty much religious but religious in my own way. I believe in God totally but i do not follow things blindly. I often question things that im asked to follow and only practise what i think makes sense to me. As i said i think too much and thus question a lot too. And often, people dont like that nature. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(JeromeDubois @ Mar 28 2010, 02:57 AM)
It's good that they've learned to understand you better now. Atleast something good came out of all that. An important part of parenthood is not to project our fears and insecurities onto our children and yet at the same time be aware and fearful enough to ensure their safety. It's a very tightrope to walk on I know and easier said than done for certain.
If that is what they thought they wanted then I will support it and if they make a mistake, I will help them overcome it with moral support and encouragement.
*
But i've got to say i am here today thankfully due to my parents hardwork. They never got the chance to go to college and thus made sure both their kids achieve it nod.gif I have seen some of my cousins totally waste their time and parents money by enjoying life without no aims or goals blink.gif

frankly speaking I enjoyed my course until final year get tired of it biggrin.gif

And when I share about doing something new,
Frankly I don't like people who questioned "Why you take this course in the first place?" "Why you continue it?" etc etc. Whatever the reason is, it's not like they can understand it, from the way they ask.
*
they would never understand biggrin.gif

Naughty you, going against the grain like that. It bugs simple minded people that you think too much. Does it bug you that you bug them?  laugh.gif
*
It doesnt bug me though coz i find it amusing to irritate people with questions tht i know they cant answer tongue.gif

I do question a lot. I do a lot of research of my own religion, I'm not born in the religious family and everytime I have a question, I'll keep searching for an answer. And I don't consider myself following religion blindly as I keep on doing and doing research for proof and even historical proof.
*
Good for you at least u know what ur following and believing in. Many do not really know what they are believing in. I come from a religious family though. My uncle is a monk and thus its pretty much expected that i follow my religious teachings without questioning much biggrin.gif But my brother and i turned out to be different, lolx. We question a lot and we love talking on things like ths, on whats logical and whats not. Some times, my extremely pious cousins get sick of trying to brain wash me tongue.gif

Sounds like you have a tight family there. Sounds good.
*
Tight family? Lolx i guess its far from that. biggrin.gif right now its just okay i guess.

Previously it was a bumper car ride - up and down and the rhythm goes on and on, went through tough times as my parents have large families in their own respective sides. Thats why sometimes to me, despite the fact blood is thicker than water, u need water to keep the blood flowing~~friends means a lot to me.

But im very close to my brother as we are twins so that accounts to an extremely tight bro-sis relationship

Haha no it is just a nickname. I spent alot of time in the states growing up but I was in Montreal Canada for 2 years also. In Montreal they are mainly French-Canadian and I was new in school and so the teacher asked me to stand up and introduce myself and I did and I told them my name ans they all couldn't say it because they were unfamiliar with Asian names and so this kid joked that they should just call me Jerome Dubois because that was the name of the kid that just left their class and whose place I took in class and it stuck since then. People just called me Jerome and I got used to the name too.

It is a very good thing to me that I got to see different cultures as I grew up and mix with people in different societies. It helped me to broaden my thinking and perspective.

The bad thing is that you miss your friends there and the places you knew and grew up in. It's difficult finding time out to go back to my old neighborhoods now that I'm working which is very sad for me but I will find time soon.

Do u have regrets of returning to malaysia? or do u wish u could have the best of both worlds

There are pros and cons to both US and Malaysia but I am more comfortable living in the states. I am only here in Malaysia due to our business being here and this is where we make a living so I can't be choosy. I will retire in the states or move back anytime I get enough reasons to. Ever been to the states?
*
Nopes, would go there sumday i guess... tongue.gif

Usually people are most comfortable with where they grew up as a kid

Yes you're right here. It isn't such a great country to be in but my childhood was there and this is where the basic foundations of my being was formed so definitely it is going to be the best place to me.
You can go on vacation first and see if you really like it.
