how's samsung quality these days? I have had bad experience with samsung before :p

but this phone looks very sleeky....as long as the UI is customizable (launcher pro etc), i really don't mind buying this (but maxis :[ )

anyone test battery drain of the GPS on the samsung galaxy s?The buntuman said that the phone can last 2 hours only in full charge. shocking.gif  Is true?

Buntutman also said the phone always require reboot. sad.gif It make me feel i am using my htc touch 3G experience..

I want to sign a contract with maxis for galaxy s. Anyone check the firmware version of the phone? is it the latest?

Thanks in advance. notworthy.gif

does not include

to get the Rm1699 price, you must subcribe for 1 year, the cheapest package is RM50 value plus + data plan Rm58(a must)
*
they gave me Rm10 discount on the data plan though, so RM48 per month for me

Don't need wait for digi lah. Just get the phone and go for Smartplan. Cheaper on the long run. Don't need to tie yourself down with a contract.
*
i actuall calculated...you times your expenses by 12 months, contract seems to be cheaper

hang on...u need to pay RM1699 for the phone right

so assume i sign up for RM50 value + RM48 data plan...so how much is my upfront total payment?

do they take instalment?  tongue.gif

can pay thru credit card? blush.gif or cash upfront only  rclxub.gif
*
i paid using credit card...
the first payment includes only the price of the phone

Hmm. Can share how you end up with that conclusion?
*
To buy with retail price, the calculation will be
Phone: 2599
Data (DIGI) : 68*12 = 816 (1 year)

so total 2599 + 816 = 3415 (haven't include your call charges yet)

With Maxis Contract
Phone: 1699
Data: (50+58) * 12 = 1296 (1 year)

total of 1699 + 1296 = 2995 (and my data plan is actually 48 due to the discount)

well...with maxis Rm58 plan you can't tether though

can tell me how much we need to pay to maxis for the 1st time to get galaxy s? is it 1699+(50+58)=1807? or need other payment?
and another thing, can me change my data plan within the contract period? i want to try 58 data plan for 1st month, and if it not sufficient for me, i want to upgrade to 78.
*
I pay for the phone only when i was there....not including the data plan

and you can't change your plan within the contract period

the rm58 dataplan can't tether and is only for 500mb per month. Maxis policy on exceeding your monthly quota is to charge you for your excess download (diam diam la...). digi rm68 package can tether, plus its monthly quota is 3gb..Additionally if you exceed your quota, you wont get charged, just throttled down to 128kbps. Quite fair, imho.

i can tell you, 500mb is quite insufficient even if you are a casual user.

that's why i am quite pissed that maxis grabbed the exclusivity. never been a maxis customer before, and becoz of this phone, first time calling their customer service to enquire.

...can explain to me how the packages work?...er wait ah sir, i'll have to check. can i put you on hold for awhile? (yeah the awhile turn out to be few minutes)

...can tell me where are the location of maxis centres in penang? ...er wait ah sir, i'll have to check. can i put you on hold for awhile? (another minute of thumb twiddling)

...ok then, can tell me if they have stocks at the centres? ...ah cannot sir, you have to go there and ask them.

...ok fine. please give me the maxis centre phone number? ...errrr, sorry ah. our centres dont have contact numbers  doh.gif
so yeah, a big FU to maxis.

i suppose if i cave in to the temptation and finally get this phone, i will probably pay the RRP. or get someone to "joint venture" and share the rm900 discount with me getting the phone and him signing for the package. (any takers?  biggrin.gif )

or wait a while for the exclusivity to expire and pray that digi gets in on the action

or get an AP set.....

sigh... sweat.gif
*
Well....let's see how it goes...
I'm a first time smartphone user so didn really know what i need...and it is too late to go back to change my package, else i will get the 1.5GB one

Most of the time i will use wifi, and i don't tether much anyway. And I don't need "constant update" on all those sync profiles, so i guess/HOPE 500MB is good enough, else i will have to bare with it for 1 year.

phone slow down due to lack of memory...dunno what's causing, it, maybe too many shortcuts and live wallpaper...

When you lock the phone, there is a "this phone belongs to " message on the screen (where you need to put in your unlock pattern), anyone knows where to set this?

Just a quick question. Why does everyone need a screen protector if the screen is scratch resistant?
*
Is the screen scratch resistant?

Basically, Android phones, the application can multitask, ie, run many applications at the same time. Thus if u don't close yr applications properly, processes will be left behind, sooner or later, u will hv memory issues, thus phone bcomes slower. If it's slow... just shutoff the phone, ie. cold reboot....

PS: Android is based on LINUX.....

Multitasking the Android Way
Posted by Tim Bray on 28 April 2010 at 11:41 AM

Android is fairly unique in the ways it allows multiple applications to run at the same time. Developers coming from a different platform may find the way it operates surprising. Understanding its behavior is important for designing applications that will work well and integrate seamlessly with the rest of the Android platform. This article covers the reasons for Android's multitasking design, its impact on how applications work, and how you can best take advantage of Android's unique features.
