wait till the chinese brand Haier got it's act right , we may see 42'' 720p price drop to RM 1,500 . flat panel TV lifespan will be shorten and image quality may suffer as well ,then you guys and the consumer will complain . are we still in unchartered waters as far as price drop is concern ? one day our future TV will be made from sand and clay

the past year or so , since the departure of Pioneer, the market had been crying for good image quaility TV and not those fancy stuffs like media connectivity and 3D . how many people can enjoy going through 2 hrs wearing specs which is either too tight or too loose

What about when tv stations go digital?
Which one will be a better option? Plasma or LCD/LED?
*
going digital doesnt mean anything
anyway to answer your question, both SD and HD plays better on a plasma period thumbup.gif

There are only a "handful" of tech enthusiast that know how good the V is. Majority of buyers will see it as a waste of money because the 50U is already Full HD. Malaysian buyers, janji it is Full HD, that is all they care or know.

Eventually, V sales will be so bad because everyone will be buying the 50U and the 50V will be doomed to failure as there is no volume. So, no matter what price segmentation they do, if there is no volume sales, the product will either die or be brought down in price substantially.

There is a market for niche products. Albeit, smaller market, but a market nonetheless.

I think companies like Panasonic, Samsung, Sony all realise that.

The money is made in the masses but, their products still need to satisfy the critics. So there will be lines that cater for both. They will each have different emphasis. If the company has deep pockets, this phase will pass and a correction will commence. Until then, those who care for PQ will just have to pray that there is improvement.

For me, this year, there has been no real improvement in the area that matters, PQ.

Wait a few more months, the segmentation lines will get blur. Go to a chinaman shop and he will give a V50 to you for less than RM5000.

One can never run from the principles and forces of demand and suppy.

Who would have ever thought one could get a good 42 inch Panasonic plasma for RM2099 just a few years ago? My first non Full HD 42 inch was nearly RM10,000.

Very true about the Panny pricing, and that is IMHO why the older Panny entry level sets from the 10G (60V) were much better built than todays entry level sets. The repercussions will be felt in 3-4yrs from now.

We are already hearing reports of idle luminance (black) levels increase on the newer sets. Who knows what other corners were cut to get there?

Panny sets used to have stellar processors before and used to SD very well, they don't now.

Panny sets also used to do deinterlacing very well, up till this year, this was a problem on all Panny sets.

The public needs to understand that with price cuts, something needs to give. There is no free lunch here.

While some of the price reductions are just purely down to manufacturing improvements, a lot of them are due to components cost cutting. These things will show up one day.

A famous Korean brand that is known for reliability problems is the same, their stuff are just not built to the qualities that some of the other manufacturers build to.

Heck, even the renowned Japanese are seeing QC problems these days, they are all related to cost reduction activities.

This might be too early to ask, but does anyway know how to access V20 service menu ?

holding down V- on the TV and pressing 0 (zero) three times on the remote does not work.

need to check the hours

Shd be the same. Hold down the V- on the display and press the "Recall" button 3 times. Its not the "0" button.

Also, be careful with going into the service menu. Don't change anything else, and don't make any mistakes.

Yup. Confirm the same service menu access as the S10 and U20.

I agree with you totally. The same with cars as well. My 15 yr old W124 Mercedes is far superior in quality than the RM370,000 new Mercedes in town though my car is only worth RM25,000 now.

That is life. Everything deteriorates in quality, especially gadgets and electronic devices.

I am new to this thread, my thinking of getting 42D25, lot of reading seems to change my perception on plasma, 50V20 and P_50C7000 is my ultimate choice, now thing getting more confuse when LG 46LE8500 is almost out, need to compliment my 32" Sharp LCD that serve me for the last 4 years, maybe shifu here can make me decide on my choice.

at the speed rate you ran your panny , you may soon see black level rising but i hope not though as i plan to get one myself

don't worry too much lah . just as AD advised , vary your viewing content from full screen to 16:9 from time to time and don't switch on your TV for long hrs and your TV will still be fine.

I think there is a few school of thoughts on this one, some even play those EA Break-in DVD and left it on all night long.
