Petaling Jaya reporting here. My connection was down for almost 24 hours since last night. Off and on can connect, but for less than few minutes.

My package is the 1Mbps package, and generally my torrenting speeds are less than 5 to 10 kbps during the day, and about 20-30 kbps during after midnight. If I'm lucky, it'll go up to 60kbps.

Download sites like mediafire and megaupload and all those can sometimes go up to 100Kbps at night, but usually it's around 20 to 60 Kbps.

Guys, I think streamyx got shit problems again. My connection is also very bad since last night.

It's so bad that when I wanna watch streaming movies the stream won't even start now.

The streamyx site got no new announcement or anything about maintenance.

Try in 1 hour time, after monitoring every night, only notice that speed is back to normal at 12 am  blush.gif

That's standard throttling by streamyx. They throttle your connection all day and then only at around 12AM to 10AM you'll have suitable speeds. During earthquakes and all that they just use as excuse to throttle even more.

I remember the first major earthquake Streamyx had many years years ago. Speed became like shit. And when they fix the line, the speed stayed like shit, and it's what I've been getting to this day.

So, if I wanna watch streaming movies or youtube or whatever I always wait until past midnight, but the past month or 2 even past midnight the speed is shit.

Might need to wait a little while longer smile.gif........because they are hardly on time, but shouldn't be too long.

Throttling wise, they won't throttle. According to MCMC, it's a "breach of contract" as it was not stated when you sign the contract/agreement with streamyx. If somebody that knows law bring it to court, TM will be in trouble. Doesn't sound right, but thats what MCMC says.

Dude, you know they've been throttling our connections for years, right? They say they don't do it, but they're lying. MCMC, TMnet, they're all owned by the BN ruling coalition, so TMnet can lie and coverup the statistics all they want and MCMC won't investigate them.

Whatever they say now, even if they admit that they're throttling, it's all for the sake of PR only because they're losing customers to P1Wimax who actually put their fair-usage policy right on their brochure.

TMnet? No such thing. Whatever they admit that they're doing now, they've been doing it for years and they've been lying about it.

If by 'restoration' you mean 'ease up on the throttling a little', then yes it looks that way.

Hey is mediafire not loading for anyone? The page comes up but it looks different, and the 'download' button never appears.

Actually, for all we know the speed might not actually be that slow but TMNut just throttle us even more for now because they have an excuse. hmm.gif

It's TMNut, I wouldn't be surprised if they're doing it.

TMNut always takes advantage of cable damage to throttle us even more.

So even though the cable damage may have slowed things down, Streamyx goes and slows us down even more, so the whole 'connections are crap before midnight' thing is still in effect.

I got all the proof I need last night. Browsing sites was slow and a little unstable, but it was bearable.

Now during the day time, everything become shit as usual. Shit speeds, bullshit packet loss, even Malaysian sites are slower, everything is shit.

I actually support TM's throttle up to a certain level.

Cause of people downloading stuffs from Torrent, Rapidshare or Megaupload, normal users like me will suffer.

Dahlah cable break, we don't have enough bandwidth to share, yet everyone wants to download god knows what from those sites.

I'm ok with the throttling of those file sharing sites/systems. I would rather give all this downloaders 1kb/s, than allowing them to clog up the networks and in return causing EVERYONE to get 1kb/s. But if you say even Malaysian sites are slow, then they have to do something about it.

Everything was fine initially, and then that first earthquake that broke the lines in Taiwan happened. And then everything went to shit, and when they fixed the line, everything stayed at shit.

TMnut blame the torrenters and downloaders for using up the bandwidth, yet now after throttling us the connection is still shit so they get you guys to blame the torrenters even more.

Don't you get it? They want you to be angry, but not at them, at the torrenters and downloaders. They say these people are using up all the bandwidth, so they throttle, but then they say they're not throttling, and then connections are lousy for everyone, and then they blame the downloaders in big announcements and articles in their slave media.

They can report anything they want because TMNut, MCMC, and the media, are all owned by and under the direct control of the current rulers.

Only recently when P1Wimax came along did things start to improve, although the blatant throttling of everybody's connections before midnight is still there.

And they've gotten a bit smarter. Yesterday Malaysian sites were loading slow as well, but today Malaysian sites seem to be working fine-ish.

If they are indeed throttling because the international lines can't handle it, then why the bloody hell do they keep advertising faster and faster connections??

1Mbps, 2Mbps, all this super fast connections that they advertise, and then they say "Oh, our international lines can't handle it so we'll give you less than 1Mbps for your 2Mbps line. And for you 1Mbps subcribers, we'll give you less than 512Kbps".

They used to throttle youtube and the like as well. People only started reporting increased youtube speeds like, 3 weeks ago?

We don't mind if they throttle, but at least be HONEST about it. They've been doing it for years, throttling everyone's connection to everything, but they always say that they don't. At least with P1Wimax's FUP they're honest about when they're gonna throttle.

And Andrew, gathering and charging internet users for downloading 'illegal' content is very very very ambiguous. They'd need to get individual distributors' permissions to pursue said charges. And what's worse, not every 'illegal' content actually has a licensed distributor in Malaysia.

And then things will get messy, like "what products are illegal?". Is downloading shows that are not distributed in Malaysia illegal? Is the download of pornography illegal?

What about legal distribution softwares like Steam and Direct2Drive? They use LOADS of bandwidth when people buy and download whole games using it. Like me, I just bought and downloaded Portal on Steam. The game was almost 4 Gigs. I'm thinking of buying Empire: Total War on Steam too. That game is 8 Gigs.

Are they going to be illegal because of the amount of bandwidth they use? And Youtube uses a lot of bandwidth too. Shall Youtube be made illegal too? Some legal game publishers actually use torrents and download sites to distribute their software. Will those be illegal too?

PS: Since when was the Wikipedia page on Streamyx this short? It used to be at least twice the length. The page is now damn minimalistic, and makes no mention of public opinion on the service, nor does it mention specifics o exactly how "...Malaysian internet infrastructure have been identified as not meeting the current standards..."

Convenient that all references are basically advertising the service...

It's night time. Speeds are generally better past midnight. We'll see what happens when it reaches day time.
