Over the years, I have learned to take whatever streamx says with a lorry-full of salt. Cable breakdown, and I can expect to find browsing to intl sites even slower. But that doesn't explain why speed testing using speedometer and Streamyx's own servers gives me download speeds of between 100 - 500kb on a 1024/512 account. My guess is... whatever frakked up their network last week hasn't really been resolved.

Seems like we're getting throttled at night. Was fine after midnight last night and this morning, but speeds started to come down in the afternoon and in the evening. Waiting to see if speeds pick back up after midnight

QUOTE(FlameReaper @ May 2 2010, 07:23 PM) As a 2Mbps package user, I'm quite confused when speed tests to Seri Kembangan server ended me up with less than 1Mbps. Sure, I'm leeching the latest Ubuntu installer from our own servers, but really? Lower than 1Mbps? I wonder what's the problem now. Like everyone else, I'm getting very erratic speeds lately. Things are OK from 6am - 12pm but drops down to 100-200kbps from 12-4pm (I'm on a 1mb line). After 4pm its up and down. One thing I have noticed is that not only is my download speeds slow to intl sites, but speed tests using speedometer is also very bad, around 100-200kbps during affected periods. So if the problem is some god forsaken underground cable, why is my speed to a local server affected. For that matter, why is it affected at certain times only, and not during the magic hours of 6am-12pm? I suspect that a lot of problems we're all facing is largely internal to streamyx. Hardware issues? Oversubscription issues (so many people subscribing 2mb and 4mb accounts nowadays). Throttling software issues? I don't know. All i know is that I would never want to work for streamyx/tmnet, because I wouldn't want to be associated with incompetence. BTW, I believe that slow download speeds to megaupload / rapidshare are probably the result of throttling rather than cable problems.

Not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but I find that my bandwidth craps between 12pm and 6pm, daily. I know, it's a bit odd, because usually you expect slower bandwidth during peak times i.e. in the evening, but for me it's the afternoon. But specifically, it's not just international bandwidth speeds that drops. My speed tests with tmnet speedometer will usually be between 80-250 kbps or 10-25% of my 1MB bandwidth. So the issue is not international bandwidth congestion, but local connection to local server. Is anyone encountering this i.e. slow bandwidth in the afternoon, and slow speeds to local speedometer servers?
