I got 7 A+ and 3 A- in my SPM, and I have decided to study either electronic engineering or microelectronic engineering.
However, I haven't decided where to go: UNIMAP or private colleges. My parents' opinions are UNIMAP which is a government uni have complete facilities and equipments to study engineering whereas private colleges do not provide them. Besides, they think a cert from uni is better than those from colleges, and I am not sure whether that is real. Of course, the fees are much cheaper than the colleges.

However, I need 6 years to complete the course and get a degree in UNIMAP, which is longer than other colleges. I am also worried about the job opportunity after I graduate. Also a matter which bothers me a lot, UNIMAP is located in Kangar, Perlis, which definitely doesn't seem to be an attractive place to me.

(My mom says I'll be sent to MMU if I do not get into UNIMAP, and I do not have much information about this university.)

So, which one should I choose? UNIMAP or private colleges or MMU?

i m currently study in unimap diploma microelectronic. unimap is a very gud place for study. for microelectronic, it provide all the equipment and enviroment for learning such as clean room, failure analysis lab and other laboratory (u will use the lab depend on the semestre subject).
by comparing the fee, ipta is much cheaper compared to ipts.
here the review for the fee: http://www.unimap.edu.my/template02.asp?tt...&contentid=1037

about the cert, the cert juz make u easy for interview job because the cert show ur result or cgpa that show how well u perform in uni.
unimap is not juz locate on kangar but all place around the perlis ( kangar is juz a small town and perlis is not a modern state like kl). so, we go lecture class by bas.

erm... dat all kua. got other question?

currently is degree is not accredited by BEM as the syallabus do not meet the requirement of engineering programme. Check BEM?EAC website.

I have visited the campus many time and their lab facilities is the best in Malaysia.

you can ask any lecturer from usm, utm and um once they visited unimap then they will change their perception on lab facilities. CADENCE IC design system lisences are shared by these universities but unimap alone have 25 of those lisence as also 2G Oscilloscope, UM only have 2 units, Unimap have 40.

In term of equipment Unimap is far ahead (more so then the private unis) but the syllabus is not up to par.

Go to UNIMAP. I personally know an AMD R&D director who speaks highly of UNIMAP's engineering degree. It is new, with sufficient software licenses, syllabus is relevant to industry.

To hazxkh:

I suggest you start with C programming, its one of the 1st year compulsory subject for every course. Don't be pulled down by just learning C instead of C++, C is more suitable for engineers.

UniMAP offers per person lab equipment and extensive hands-on lab sessions. It does not matter which Uni you are from, or going to, its the essence, the willingness to learn and passion towards your education that matter the most.

i agree with that 10A student should not waste time on doing diploma. going for foundation or matriculation is more better than taking diploma. what i wanna say is the diploma of microelectronic course i having now is not a worse course at all. beside for low income family not effort go for private uni, this course might be suitable. perlis is a good enviroment to study. but less entertainment compare other state.

Engineering Maths divided into 3 subjects/course, Eng Maths 1, 2 and 3.
Eng Maths 1 is about vectors, matrix iirc.
Eng Maths 2 forgot.
Eng Maths 3 is about Advanced Calculus, such as Curl, Stokes Theorem etc etc.
Eng Maths 3 is important because you will be using it to do Electromagnetic Theory, which is hard.

Yes you will have no entertainment besides drama, movies, pc games. There is a new bowling center as well.
But that does not matters right? because they expect that a true engineer has no life. sweat.gif
