Im using WD Green hdd.. It's quiet during boot up and especially when loading huge 1080 mkv files ..

maybe u can try switching to WD green..

or maybe the noise is caused by the vibration from the hdd to your casing, try using silicone washer and screw to dampen the vibrating.. my ML03 casing comes with these screws and washer.

i see... maybe i should spend some money on a SSD then boot up will be super silent
and btw you can try to ask at hardware Q&A for recommendation
people there are more helpful on this kind of question biggrin.gif

Atom D2700 could be the next best intel HTPC build
it has faster processor , able to use hardware to do HD decoding & the price should be quite attractive drool.gif
and most people like intel more

for me i just choose the most energy efficient proc
right now there's a lot capable processor can handle full hd with it's horsepower some are just too overpower to be a htpc it's just a waste of energy for what u wont be needing

Hi guys,

Found an old netbook (ASUS Eee PC S101H) in a drawer which hasn't been used in ages. I read some articles online that show how to repurpose nettops into XBMC boxes (pure XBMC without Windows), and I was wondering if anyone had any experience of doing something similar but on a netbook.

The instructions look pretty straightforward, but my only concern is that my netbook doesn't have NVIDIA ION GPU on it.

Any comments? Will be trying this over the weekend...

if you are only watching SD shows then it would be just fine...
the maximum resolution it can handle would be 720p everything over that would be too much for the little atom to handle
