Hi, I'm new here. Would like to have HTPC for my new place.
1. GIGABYTE E350N-USB3 FUSION or ASUS E35M1-M PRO - Is the processor and video built-in is fast and capable of viewing full HD movies (MKV)? 2. 2GB DDR3 RAM? 3. HDD - any disk space 4. CASING - any nice casing, maybe Silverstone 5. COOLMASTER FAN- required?
Anything that I'm missing? I need to make sure that the videos played are in smooth condition.
Also, any recommendation on sound system?
Thanks!

QUOTE(ariff_tech @ May 5 2011, 11:53 PM) It depends, most people used low cost, decent performance HTPC, small casing and only 1 HDD. A media player also capable to do this with less cost. But it required AVR or Digital AMP to get 5.1 ch (some media player also have analog out but expensive). With HTPC, you can have more configurable sound option, not just by soundcard driver, but audio codec as well like ffdshow. Consider about power consumption, low power HTPC is good, but using AVR will defeat the purpose. Just get 5.1 logitech or creative is enough. Unless you have high end HTPC, with 10x2TB hdd and around 500 HD movie with HD sound, then AVR is a must. Why only high end HTPC should use AVR? Also what AVR you would recommend? Thanks!

QUOTE(Kelv @ Nov 2 2011, 11:26 AM) Budget? And the casing you prefer? Budget should be approx 1.5K? As for the casing, I would like to get Silverstone ML03? Good choice?

QUOTE(peter32 @ Nov 2 2011, 07:45 PM) I am having an AMD Fusion A6 built with gigabyte mobo. It runs full HD movie on my 46' LED LCD without any problem. Fusion built will be able to fit your budget I think. But do spend some more money to have at least a 4 or 6GB RAM min. with 1333Hz speed. AMD A6 X4 3650 (HD6530D) - $380 Gigabyte MOBO - $350 Memory PC1333 D3 (4GB x 2) - $150 HDD 2TB WD Green - $350 Power Supply Cooler Master 550W GX - $250 Casing Silverstone ML03 - $280 This would be good enough for a HTPC for LED 46" full HD? Also is cooler master silent enough?

Thanks for your advice Stan! Will do more research.
May I know what is the spec for your current HTPC since you have done moat of the research?
Also, do you think the current Media Player such as WD Live or Dune HD is good enough?
