IINM, SPDIF IS transmitted over coaxial. SPDIF is the codec used, and could be transmitted over coax or optical.
SPDIF is a stereo codec
*
SPDIF can transmit 5.1 surround sound because it's compressed format.

# 5.1 Channel x 100W Card(MS-4140)
# 100W Peak, Channel Drive, 8Ω
# THD+N: <0.1%, 1kHz, 1W
# SNR: >105 dB
# Frequency Response: ±0.5 dB (20Hz to 20kHz)
# 93% Efficient Power Amplifier

even the mobo itself has RCA audio out as well as YPbPr component out for those users without HDMI-capable tv.

Some info on cheap speaker cables:
1. The kinda thick cable pair with transparent plastic cover cost around RM45 for 40m per roll at Hardware shop. That will be around RM1.13 per metre.
2. One of the cables at specialist hifi shop that look the same as cable at hardware shop in #1 cost you RM5 per metre. But they provide you good buying experience lah .... aie-conditioned shops, can demo, give you reverse osmosis water etc. hehehe...
*
make sure that the core conductor is of heavy gauge. most cheap cables look big, but actually it's the insulation that's thick but with small core.

anyone here know where i can buy a decent htpc? or any bro here can built and sell?

decent spec is not a problem. problem is getting a nice, classy AV style looking case at reasonable price.

I think 7MC don't have scapper which is nessesary for me.
7MC just display meaningless black thumbnail for video file.

BTW, I no doubt that 7MC are great and nice for photo & music.
*
with mediabowser, 7mc can show file type (mkv, avi..), video type (mkv/xvid/1080/720, bitrate...), audio type (dts, dd, aac...),folder art, backdrop, movie summary, imdb rating, director, actors.

according to guru3d regarding GeForce GT430,
QUOTE
Passing on audio over the PCIe bus brings along enhanced support for multiple formats. So VP4 can now support 8 channel LPCM, lossless format DD+ and 6 channel AAC. Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio bit streaming are not yet supported in software, yet in hardware they are (needs a driver update).

sos: http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gt-430-review/4

this statement is also mentioned in other reviews of nvidia 4XX card such as the 460 too.

is this true? no HD audio bitstream yet on nvidia?

First, try connect using your optical connector. Because you already have a good avr, all sound can be process by the avr. No need sound card.
*
With this method (optical or coaxial digital cable), you'll only get standard DD5.1 / DTS 5.1 (6.1 max).

If you need HD surround sound (5.1 or 7.1 Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD MA), HDMI is the only way.

why not consider AMD APU ? (if already bought intel, test yourself blush.gif ) APU confirm can passthrough Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HDMA to AVR. intel not sure. most important is much better GPU performance than intel onboard video.

mobo using A55 chipset good enough?

I have a PC with Intel Pentium E2160 + 2GB RAM.
I plan to get nVIDIA GT610 card. The website says it support HD audio 7.1 bitstreaming. Anyone has personal experience with this card? Will my CPU (old processor) be a bottleneck? I play 1080p MKV muxed with DTS HDMA & m2ts BD file.
