hi bro, I need help from all pro bro here. As I planning to get a A10 APU HTPC for my living room, now looking at speaker system to connect to it.

1) planning to get a logitech Z906 to connect it as is cheap (rm1299) n THX certified. i look at connection it have 2 optical and 1 coaxial input and dun have hdmi. does this mean this speaker only can connect using optical/coaxial input from amp/HTPC?

does the connect below is correct for this?
TV <-- HDMI <-- player/HTPC --> optical/coaxial--> logitech Z906

2) does this speaker is good enough for living room as watch fhd movie? or i spend around 2k on other speaker system can get better result?

thx smile.gif

1) Yes, the Z906 only handles optical/coaxial in.

2) How big is your living room? "computer" speakers are designed to be near-field listening experience, the Z906 on its own is also a horrible piece of listening equipment. I honestly don't suggest getting a Z906 for your living room, RM1299 is just ridiculous amount to pay for such lousy audio quality. A mid-end 2.1 Swans Hivi m50w would sound even better than the Z906 and that just costs RM700.

What is your entire budget for speakers in the first place?

ohh now i know  smile.gif thx for advice bro

My frd advice me to get this Onkyo HT-S3500 and is below rm2k, which is between my budget too.

is this good for budget below rm2k? and i have no idea where to get this speaker?

I just found SenQ website selling Onkyo HT-S3400 with rm1999. is good enough compare to HT-S3500?

thanks again  smile.gif

Both are pretty much the same models, the S3500 does have USB support. But USB support is pretty much redundant because you're going to be using a HTPC anyways.

Depends how much you can find the S3500 for, both do sound decent. Only thing is that I didn't quite like the subs, was a little bit too bloated IMO so you might have to EQ the low range a little bit.

Not really.. I tried using the 6450 to play some high bit rite 1080p with HD audio, the movie stutters and tearing occurs in XBMC if using full screen with window rather than actual full screen mode.
*
A 6450 isn't enough for 3D at >30mpbs 1080p, who ever told you it was must be dreaming.
You'd want at least a HD7750 for that.

Hi gang,

Am using a Logitech MK220 (wireless kb + mouse combo) for my living room requirements, and PC is ~7ft away only. My prob is the distance between the kb/mouse and the receiver at the back of the PC - is not sensitive. When sitting on my couch most of the time the kb/mouse is not sensitive. I have to lift up (literally) both kb/mouse and then only got signal, use for a while, and if idle, repeat.

Already tried changing USB receiver positions, no diff.

Can anyone share a good/budget combo that works well for distances ~10ft?

TQ!

You can;

1) Get a USB cable extender - http://www.coolgear.com/images/USBG-EXT-2X.jpg
2) Change to a bluetooth kb+mouse

However, I find it odd that you are having issues at 7 feet because the MK220 is rated for up to 33 feet of usage. I'm using a Logitech K400r keyboard and I have no issues controlling my PC from 12 feet away.

Slap on a Titan, an i7 4770, 8GB of RAM, put them all in Bitfenix Prodigy. No issues there.

thanks for the info...seen like will cost alot... ohmy.gif  ohmy.gif
another question, do you include very good sound card or jz use the mobo audio output??
*
The Titan is just an example. You can drop it down to a cheaper 780 or 770 if you want, or even a 7970 Ghz too. Depends on your budget.

Usually for SFF ITX builds, I usually go HDMI out from the GPU to AVR.
Since HDMI carries DTS HD/Dolby TrueHD, there's really no need for a soundcard. Most soundcards only carry DD 5.1 or in rare cases, DTS only through optical out. So even if your purpose isn't a 7.1 or more setup, a soundcard sorts screw things up since either DD 5.1 or DTS won't be encoded.

Furthermore, you're not going to have space for a soundcard in an ITX build anyways.

Anything good in the facebook group? Seems like someone is selling their services for RM50? Is it worth it?
*
No.
Why pay when you can install XBMC yourself? It's free and it isn't rocket science. If XBMC is too confusing (God, I don't know how it is actually confusing but...) then use Plex.

Yes... use PLEX... what is PLEX. google is my friend.

Ya sure... when when u are an IT guy, XBMC no confusing.

why not u join as one of the admin of the group and share your knowledge.

dont angry with what i'm saying... but its true if u have the knowledge, you can sell your knowledge @ service right?

as i am not an IT guy... XBMC was new to me. even for start I paid him RM50... and the meantime i surf the net study about xbmc. now i know how xbmc + backend + astro STB can make together. lost RM50... but I gain more knowledge of my own.

lets that guy selling his knowledge for RM50... he sure wanna help (but with cost of RM50). thats his part time job.

For me that facebook group are for open source xbmc and free for u to share anything about xbmc. for me when its open source... its open.
peace no war
*
Calm down.

I'm not starting a war here. Just saying that there are plenty of tutorials online which can get many to start up XBMC in relatively short amount of time.
Through my perspective at least, it isn't worth paying RM50 (or even a fee) for something like this. That's just how I feel, certainly I am NOT saying services like this is wrong at all. I don't support it doesn't mean I hate it, fine difference there bro.

With apple tv supporting plex, does it still make sense to do a HTPC nowadays?
*
You want the best audio and video quality, a HTPC is still required. Plex is just plex, meh.
It's like asking if Blu-Rays are still required since Netflix/Hulu+ is available. They just can't be compared, quality wise.

Of course, if you're just into simplicity, you don't even need to shell out that much in the first place.

Hi every one

Just want to ask all the sifus here.

I have a core 2 quad and an Ati 6870 lying around. Planning to fix up a htpc with it. Will be getting a 2 or 4 gb ram for it.

Do you think it’s ok performance wise for a htpc or should I get an i3?

Further more what casing would be roecommended if my budget at 200

Thanks in advance
*
For 1080p rips/remux and streaming, shouldn't be a big issue unless you are going to be using SVP and madvr ultra preset.
For 4k, neither hardware will be enough.

As for casing, at RM200... does it matter? Just get whatever that fits in your space?

This thread dead ?
No more people use htpc? 🤔🥺😅
*
I'm still using mine.

But now a days the majority of people uses:

1) Android box/Apple TV/FireTV
2) Dedicated Android based player from Zidoo, IPUK, etc.
3) Built in player on SmartTV

Most don't want to bother with HTPC because either they believe in the myth that it's complicated to setup or they believe their android boxes produces better image quality. rolleyes.gif
