Hi, I just ordered my new and first time RIG to build HTPC ....
Below is my new HTPC RIG :

Proc : Intel Core i3-530 @ 2.93GHz

Mobo : Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H Motherboard

RAM : Team Elite DDR3 2GB 1333 RAM

HDD : WD Green 500GB Sata HDD

PSU : Xigmatek NRP-PC502 500W PSU

Case : CM Elite 430

ODD : LG DVD-RW Drive

Graphic : integrated

I planned to connect this setup to my Panasonic 37" LCD....
Is above spec is ok for low-end HTPC setup? notworthy.gif

You could have added BDROM instead DVD-RW Drive, just a thought..

BDROM drive and BD prices now are still expensive for me...
better I wait until the price are getting more affordable, and at that time, will consider to change to BD... tongue.gif

BTW, may I know which TV capture card are good for HTPC.

Currently I'm using leadtek winfast one.... it's kinda cheap TV card (bought it for about RM140 on last January),
only have FM, Analog TV, Composite and S-video input....

And I have heard that some TV card offered something that called IR-BLASTER. It can control the Astro TV channels through HTPC remote control. It's that true? And can suggest me some good TV card for HTPC...? notworthy.gif

Most ppl use hauppauge WinTV PVR 150 ....

Ir Blaster is to receive the signal from yr Media Center remote control and sent out the learned signal ( change channels ) to yr devices like Astro decoder..

I wrote something about it in my blog below...

With Astro byond offering PVR service, the above mention method is kinda obsolete....

Thanks... a really good blog for newbie on HTPC setup like me.... thumbup.gif

And I wanna ask some more, I have setup my new HTPC, and I'm using Vista Home Premium,

But when I tried to connect my HTPC to my Panasonic TX-37LE8MK LCD TV via HDMI connection,

The picture become too sharp and it's hard to read the font on my LCD... The default resolution that I can obtained better image on my LCD TV was 1280x720 @ 60Hz

But when I set the output resolution to 1366x768 @ 60Hz (my LCD TV native resoultion) , the picture become too small and "Window boxed" happens

The desktop seems not so smooth like when I connected my PC via DVI connection to my 20" Samsung LCD monitor....

what's the problem actually? It comes from my LCD TV or my setup?? hmm.gif

And yes, I'm using Byond PVR (upgrade from my older Max)

Hmm.. about RM1300 something...
I only changed my PSU, casing, processor, mobo and RAM...
HDD and ODD I recycled back from my old PC...
All the items I bought online from this website... biggrin.gif

I'm using CM Elite 430 case and I bought Gigabyte H55M-S2H mobo, Core i3 processor and Team Elite 2GB DDR3 ram from this thread, http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1168038&hl=

Yes, that happens when u try to use a higher resolution that the supported resolution on yr LCD TV.

From yr descriptions, looks like yr native resolution is probably 720p instead of the higher one stated...

You can try to use a bigger font size to compensate the blur font cos it is pretty hard to read at a distance away.

What graphic card are you using ?
You must hv gotten yr Byond PVR upgrade for free promo to existing Max users... too bad I live in condo and cannot take up that free offer cos the internal wiring is centralized antenna.
*
I'm only using Intel HD graphic that is integrated in the Processor die... unsure.gif

Yeah! I got my PVR with free swap for existing max user....

i have install the codec. 1080p mkv plays ok.....but got 'pixelized' once in a while.

Hook it up to my 42" fullHD plasma, panasonic p42s10k. it seems that the display is quite 'broken', i.e. not sharp at all. + the display is not fully stretch to the tv boarders. Not like the display when i hook it up to my dell 24" full HD monitor. For the dell 24" it is OK.
BUT during mkv playback it is ok. All connection via cap ayam hdmi.

Anything wrong with my system?

how is the tricky config for the 5450? any guide on the net?

Thanks.

Your case was same with me... I'm also facing the problem when connecting my HTPC to my big screen TV... shakehead.gif

But when connected it through my Samsung LCD Monitor via DVI cable, everything was fine... and also, when I connected my LCD TV to the HTPC via
VGA cable, it also fine... the problem only rise when connected through HDMI...

BTW, I'm only using Panasonic HD Ready 37 inch LCD TV... Not Full HD Plasma like you.... notworthy.gif

I suspect that Panasonic TV has a problem when connecting PC through HDMI.. or it can't support it.... hmm.gif

I Haven't heard any other TV like Samsung, LG, Toshiba have this kind of problem...

Maybe can try to replace with another HDMI cable?
*
already do that....
but still same....
I only used "cheap" HDMI cable since you know lah, HDMI is digital...
It just ON and OFF.... tongue.gif
Cheap or expensive cable will give the same result...
And that HDMI cable also give the very impressive result when coupled with my Byond and upconvert DVD Player....
So, the problem was not from HDMI cable... I suspect it was from my setting or my TV itself...

Hi

I too have this problem, but manage to solve it. If you guys are using ATI, as same as me, then this might help. ATI have a Overscan feature, and it is set to 15% (If i remember correctly tongue.gif ), so you guys got the top, bottom, left nad right black bar. This only happens on HDMI, I didn't this from VGA. This happens on both Windows 7 and XP as well. What you guys need to do is look in ATI Catalyst driver. IT's damn hidden in one of it's menu that said overscan. Just reset it back to 0 and you got full screen. I am not at home so I can;t give you the instructions, but basically this is what i did.

Hope this helps

Unfortunately, I'm using intel HD integrated graphics.... not ATI one.... doh.gif
If like that, I need to invest some money to buy dedicated GC....
BTW, thanks for ur suggestion.... biggrin.gif
Currently I just connect my "htpc" to 23"inch Samsung LCD monitor using DVI
