WOW! NICE! Then I should forget about media player it already.
HTPC use what OS ? Normal Win7 use media player classic home theater > AVR / TV ?
Must use the XBMC ?

Check my signature PC Spec. Can use for HTPC ?  hmm.gif

Any current pc and even last 3-4 years pc can serve as HTPC. If you can connect your pc to tv, it already a HTPC. XBMC, WMC or any other htpc front end application is not a must.

First, try connect using your optical connector. Because you already have a good avr, all sound can be process by the avr. No need sound card.

Haha same, thats y using optical. My AVR also cant support hdmi :-)
*
I know some of my friends still use their old pc as htpc. No hdmi just optical. It all depend on what you want from your htpc. Like me, I can live without Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD. Even now I just use tv speaker for sound. As long as I can watch movie on my tv, it is enough. My AVR also really old one with no hdmi support.

Added on December 24, 2012, 10:22 amLast time I try using XBMC and also Windows Media Center. But my spouse think it too difficult to use, so now I'm back with explorer+mphc smile.gif .

For HTPC + torrent, which processor better? Intel or AMD?

HTPC = only for playing movie/mp3/flac no games.
torrent = 24/7

My vote is AMD APU. perfect for HTPC.
*
How about the power consumption of AMD APU. I learnt that AMDU APU system is an all-rounded system with better graphic performance but have higher power consumption while i3's graphic is less powerful but it uses far less power which also means less heat. Currently I'm planning to build one small htpc+torrent system. Thinking to try itx with small casing so heat and power consumption are main issue for me.

So, for HTPC+gaming I think AMD APU is the perfect one, but for torrent which require the pc to switch on 24/7, do you think it also suitable?

ok, summarize your requirement and narrow down the choice for you.
Objective: HTPC + gaming + torrent 24/7
Intel Solution: definitely you need to add discrete graphics card as i3 onboard sukc a big time when gaming. so higher power consumption when combine of i3+gfx than AMD APU alone for sure.
AMD Solution: AMD APU without adding discrete graphics card, still better in balance of Power vs. Performance. not suitable if you're hardcore gamer. light gaming are fine.

no comment if you want to use only i3 without gfx, then of course is less power, but you have to sacrificed gaming performance.

Actually my objective is htpc+ torrent only. Absolutely no gaming.

Hi,
Currently I use ACryan mini 3, hdmi connect to Denon avr, hdmi connect to SmartTV.

Heard HTPC do better job in audio&video to play bluray m2ts, iso files & also better to play 24bit192khz Flac files.

1. HTPC out put both audio&video thru hdmi to AVR?
2. Can it play iso files?
3. Can it play flac 24bit192khz files?
4. Can it play youtube, surf net etc like normal pc?

Tq.
*
HTPC is a normal PC you connect to home theater. Any function normal PC can do, HTPC also can do like open and play iso files, music file (mp3, flac) and surf internet. In fact, I'm currently using my HTPC to write this reply.

got anyone know how to setup HTPC for CRT TV via RCA cable?
*
I had done it once 4-5 year ago. I use special cable s-video to RCA supplied with my GC.

But you can try searching for vga to RCA cable in the computer shop.

hi, i'm more interested in watching astro via XBMC. I have HTPC with XBMC installed, astro beyond, and LED TV, so how to get the video from Astro and output it to my HTPC? Is an extra hardware needed like TV tuner card?
*
May I know why you want to watch Astro with your HTPC? HTPC+Astro decoder, I think it will consume lots of electricity.

To watch astro with your htpc, you need TV Tuner card.

hi, I'm going to build a htpc. Which processor should i buy, i3 or i5? Im planning to build it with a Gigabyte h77n-wifi (mobo), 4Gb ram, SSD 64GB (will run my movies from others pc) n 450w psu. What do u guys think?
*
If you ask between i3 or i5 for HTPC, i3 is enough. I use 1st gen i3 and it can play everything I throw into it.
