just swapped the RAM with my spare RAM...and win7 installed flawlessly....so far no BSOD...not even sure the RAM is suitable or not. hahaha...!!

using gigabyte945gzm, with Pentium D 925 3ghz, 2gb pc2-6400 RAM, the el-cheapo powercolor ati hd5450...all 2nd hand donated by a friend except for the 5450 & xqbox80x htpc casing... rclxms.gif

is the RAM ok? icon_question.gif

will be installing the codec etc after this. Not sure whether the proc is sufficient for 1080p mkv or not.

& thanks guys for all the guide... thumbup.gif

if correctly configured, the 5450 are capable of hardware acceleration. won't depend on the cpu much for decoding. works for both 1080p mkv and bluray playback. just the configuration are a little bit tricky.
*
i have install the codec. 1080p mkv plays ok.....but got 'pixelized' once in a while.

Hook it up to my 42" fullHD plasma, panasonic p42s10k. it seems that the display is quite 'broken', i.e. not sharp at all. + the display is not fully stretch to the tv boarders. Not like the display when i hook it up to my dell 24" full HD monitor. For the dell 24" it is OK.
BUT during mkv playback it is ok. All connection via cap ayam hdmi.

Anything wrong with my system?

how is the tricky config for the 5450? any guide on the net?

Thanks.

Buy one of the silverstone brand casings... they do come with remote if not mistaken. I just got to know when my boss setup his HTPC
*
i used the a-bit-cheaper-than-silverstone xqbox. Got slot + window for remote control receiver. quality wise, surprisingly, i can say similar to the silverstone ones.

building is easy, the configuration is not. a htpc is just a normal desktop, any pc shop can build it for you. i reckon lowyat shops could build it
*
yup...the config sucks...till now still cant get things right 100%...

if i were you, i'd get a cheap used mainboard with CPU. and power supply. things that nobody wants, an older generation architecture. and slap in an ATi HD5450. and waste all the rest of the budget on storage and HT and display.

i bought my Core 2 + mainboard for RM325, Silverstone ST56 (considered as mid high if not high end) for RM150 and ATI HD5450 for RM165.

care to share your software config for your htpc. using 5450 too..but HD movies pixelating (using stock xmbc)...
any tips..?

at last managed to get HD audio from my htpc...
but 1080p playback, with 20-30gb mkv (with HD audio etc) is not so smooth. Playing but not smooth as expected.
Any config that i can do? any website that i can refer...they are like thousands of guides out there and not all actually works..
got problem with the subtitle too...for BDRIP (i.e. files in folders, not single mkv)...

pentium d...with ati hd5450...hdmi to onkyo 608...
currently using mpc-hc + ffdshow...
so far only playing around w/ffdshow;
however, found a guide..will be removing the Haali mkv splitter, and to use Gabest....
the problem is with the Haali, when it comes to bitstreaming...that what people say on some forums say lah...
so will try that lah...at least got some starting pt...
previously, dont even know where to start...that's the reason of my few post here..

i also work ...it just take like 20 sec for a posting.....nothing much...
btw..thanks paskal for the reply.
