Ya sure... when when u are an IT guy, XBMC no confusing.

why not u join as one of the admin of the group and share your knowledge.

dont angry with what i'm saying... but its true if u have the knowledge, you can sell your knowledge @ service right?

as i am not an IT guy... XBMC was new to me. even for start I paid him RM50... and the meantime i surf the net study about xbmc. now i know how xbmc + backend + astro STB can make together. lost RM50... but I gain more knowledge of my own.

lets that guy selling his knowledge for RM50... he sure wanna help (but with cost of RM50). thats his part time job.

For me that facebook group are for open source xbmc and free for u to share anything about xbmc. for me when its open source... its open.

Calm down.

I'm not starting a war here. Just saying that there are plenty of tutorials online which can get many to start up XBMC in relatively short amount of time.
Through my perspective at least, it isn't worth paying RM50 (or even a fee) for something like this. That's just how I feel, certainly I am NOT saying services like this is wrong at all. I don't support it doesn't mean I hate it, fine difference there bro.

Yes, nothing wrong in paying for services, I just wonder whether there are specialist services that say focus on the local flavors. If its just to set up xbmc, install some add on that there are better sources out there. Still, if anybody want to pay its their choice. To make better decision, that's why I ask here so that users can share their experience, so people can be better inform of whether to pay or not.

hi, any bro here using home plug for their HTPC?
can recommend me some home plug kit model that is reliable?
My budget RM200-220 for 2units...
Thanks!!!

I'm using Aztech HP HomePlug HL115EP with my NAS that is upstairs (Synology DS211J) and HTPC downstairs next to the home entertainment. Although the connection light indicate the lowest / worst bandwidth, I'm still able to watch 1080P with True HD formats / 1080p 3D without any issues.

You should be able to get the HP twin pack around RM 200

Additional info of my HTPC:

Intel Core2Duo E6420
4GB Ram
AMD Radeon HD 5000 series

Thanks Bro, I was struggling don't know which 1 to choose either Aztech HL113E or TP-link TL-PA211Kit.
Don't know about aztech but I've Very bad experience with TP-link TL-WA850RE WIFI Extender
After all I went and purchased aztech HL113E twinpack expensive then TP-Link TL-PA211Kit RM10 Only.
I only got the amble light which indicate that I have good connection.
According to Aztech manual I got the transfer rate between 30-80Mbps, I'm satisfied with that.
My experience with this HL113E is very easy to use and stable.
Streaming Video from my PC at my room at the back of the house to the HTPC at the front Living Room(distance around 50ft).
also sometime play CloudTV(IPTV Service) Sync from my nexus 7 tablet(Wifi).

My HTPC Spec

C2D E7500
4GB DDR1333
Geforce 640GT

you would need to setup shares on the machine it self via ntfs permissions or use the admin shares, each machine will need to have either the same username and password or create the an account on the machine that you are connecting to that has the same username you are connecting from.

hi, i'm more interested in watching astro via XBMC. I have HTPC with XBMC installed, astro beyond, and LED TV, so how to get the video from Astro and output it to my HTPC? Is an extra hardware needed like TV tuner card?

May I know why you want to watch Astro with your HTPC? HTPC+Astro decoder, I think it will consume lots of electricity.

To watch astro with your htpc, you need TV Tuner card.

I see, no wonder i cant figure out how to make HTPC communicate with Astro if without TV Tuner card.

Sometime suddently i think to check what is broadcasting on Astro i will need to switch my LED TV channel (HDMI 1) to Astro (HDMI 2) and when switch back to HTPC channel the screen may gone and become blank, then i need restart HTPC in order to be able to see the screen on my LED TV again. So if i could watch Astro straight in XBMC then i do not need to switch TV channel.

Since TV turner card is required, so i think i wont do this way. Maybe change a new graphic card will solve my problem. Thank u for your reply.

Hi guys, I want to setup a HTPC. Appreciate if you can advise and correct me if I'm wrong.

Currently I have:
(1) Full HD LED TV with HDMI input
(2) Zotac Zbox nano AD10 with HDMI output

I'd like to get at least a 5.1 sound setup. I understand that I need to get a decoder or home theater system with HDMI input for audio/video and outputs HDMI video to my TV.

I've seen many home theater system on the market only with hdmi output so I guess that is out of question.

Some more expensive models have both hdmi in and out. They come with 5.1 speaker set. I wonder these are the models I should be looking for? Do they have the ability to decode 5.1 sound from my Zotac HDMI out to the respective speakers?

Please recommend a system with at least 5.1 speaker set if possible. Prefer budget models. Thank you.

I would like a media player. So far my choices are either to setup a HTPC or get a media player like HiMedia.

I would like to know in term of cost, how high would a proper HTPC be? And what kind of hardware is needed. I am used to building PC for myself, but I not sure exactly what is needed for a HTPC laugh.gif

Any advice is appreciated to get me started. Thx

Media player like Himedia:

Pro :
Cheaper say <RM400
Lots of android apps
Small Size

Con :
Cannot play PC software
Less powerful

PC
Pro :
More powerful, can upgrade hardware
Can play lots of stuff, lots of PC software there.
Can use for work as well?

Con:
Relatively bulky

Price.

I don't need to run pc software. Maybe just run the Linux version of xbmc. So that it will be a dedicated media player. I already have a NAS to store all my movies. The biggest advantage of htpc to me is its upgradeable. But if the cost is too much then, it's a problem too. Haha. Can I set one up for 1k? Htpc sure need some hardware for remote control n supporting software right?

Yes, HTPC normally you can use wireless mouse. Well, then I think you should go for Himedia. Small, cheap and can be easily control using android smartphone.
