Ditto.

On a more related note, how long has Carlsberg sponsored Liverpool? It feels weird not seeing them with that jersey.
*
Hmm... since the early 90's far as I can remember. Longest partnership in league history unless I'm mistaken. Ah well, they weren't exactly digging deep into their pockets anyway.

That's the thing mate. When you make a statement, you have to be bold about it. You can't wait to see what the outcome of our games is before taking a swipe at the mancs smile.gif

QUOTE(IcyDarling @ Apr 9 2010, 04:23 PM)
win europa league can qualify champions league?
*
No. They are two different competitions.

Good showing this morning. The biggest difference is that we put our chances away. Didn't test their keeper much otherwise. It was a little touch and go when Cardozo scored and I was biting my nails until Torres scored our 4th. Good thing we scored early because after that Benfica had to come at us.

So that's two good mornings in a row now smile.gif Hope we continue to impress against Fulham over the weekend.

QUOTE(skeleton202 @ Apr 9 2010, 06:29 PM)
like i said long ago, lucas is very good player  rolleyes.gif
*
I wouldn't cream my pants yet. Just as one bad performance doesn't mean a player is crap, one good goal doesn't yet make him a superstar. I've seen highlights of Lucas when he played for Gremio and he was always played further up the park. It isn't a coincidence that his best games for us have come when he is deployed further forward. Just as Igor Biscan was struggling as a defender or defensive midfielder, only to play his beat game for us when he was playe d as an attacking midfielder against Bayer Leverkusen, Lucas has performed decently in the opposition half. Having said that, he has had some appaling games whether it's his fault or not.

QUOTE(fenzodahl512 @ Apr 10 2010, 11:00 AM)
I read this quote from another post at another site
But if I'm the manager, I'll keep Insua for at least another season.. IMHO, he has decent season with us.. This year I assume Insua is gaining vital experiences.. I expect better from him in the next season
*
While Insua may be young and can improve his game, one attribute he cannot change is his lack of pace. It isn't a coincidence that we've been conceeding from crosses. Like Carra before him, he really struggles against pacy wingers. Whilst he is a good squad player, I feel we still need a defender with a little more pace to give us options. 2 players for each position.

The game is live on Starsports is it not? 10pm kickoff. I'm pretty sure it is.

QUOTE(AskarPerang @ Apr 11 2010, 01:19 AM)
but the problem is agger prefer to play as CB and doesn't like to be deploy as LB.
don't want things like william gallas happening over here.
*
When asked, Agger cited a preference to play in the defensive midfielder position. Perhaps we should have played him there instead of Fabio Aurelio when we were overrun but Fiorentina in Florence. Then again, he was injured then wasn't he? My biggest criticism of Agger is that he is relatively weak in the air. He is a pretty strong bloke and this was evident when he once marked Drogba out of the game, forcing the Ivorian to go down each time there was contact in hope of getting a foul, but he should win more headers.

can anybody tells me the oldest / longest serving keeper for liverpool?
*
Oldest or longest serving?

I'm not sure who was older but I believe either Ray Clemence or Bruce Grobbelaar had long careers with us.

It's the 15th of April lads. In honour of the 96, I wore my kit to work.

Here's something I found on RAWK.

QUOTE
Its nearly April 15th in the year 2010
Time to remember the 96 once again
Time to educate those who believe in the lies
Time to spread some more truth so that no one else dies
Then has blame layed upon them when they can't answer back
When they cant dispute lies the police claimed as facts
Its 21 years and still justice we seek
We chant and show banners week after week
But still there are those who say we were to blame
We apparantly turned up drunk late at this fateful game
Allegedly we pissed on and robbed from our dead
Them scousers caused trouble is what they all said
Little did they know the outrage that would cause
Or that other teams fans would ring out their applause
When our fans chant for justice when we're playin their side
Cos they all know it could have been their 96 fans that died
So for the 21st time, may you all rest in peace
And pray top God may these awful accusations please cease.

Rafa pays tribute

QUOTE
Rafa Benitez has paid tribute to the people of Liverpool for the way they remember the 96 victims of Hillsborough.

The 21st anniversary of the disaster at the 1989 FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Sheffield Wednesday's home ground will be marked by a memorial service at Anfield on Thursday afternoon.

Benitez, who will be attending his sixth memorial service, insists the memory of the 96 victims should never be forgotten.

"Since I've been here it's always been very, very emotional," Benitez told the club's official website.

"All the players and all the staff are always there trying to support the families because it is a very important day for the club.

"The first time I went to the memorial service I was so impressed by what happens at this club. You can see the people and all the feelings.

"It's a poignant occasion to keep everyone remembering."

The memorial service takes place from 2.45pm and it will be shown live on LFC TV (Sky channel 434).

Though none of us were physically present at Hillsborough, and maybe only a little more were fans during the disaster, I feel that as Liverpool fans it is imperative to at least understand the magnitude of it and what it means to our kinsmen over in the UK. One hallmark of being a Liverpool fan is that we never forget. It's why we still utter the name of Bill Shankly and pay respect to him each year. Similarly it's why fans still shed tears during the Hillsborough memorial though it's been just over 20 years. I read all the time how posters here claim that we are different. Well if you ask me, two very big components of what makes this true is that we never forget, and our solidarity. It is important for us to empathise with the families that are still fighting for justice after all this time. If hope that all of you have at least read about Hillsborough. Here are the accounts of several posters on RAWK after witnessing the memorial.

QUOTE
Sat here in my bedroom crying my eyes out. Justice has to be done for these.

Nice to see Rafa singing along to YNWA then too.
QUOTE
Gerrard looked to be fighting back tears there.

QUOTE
In tears. Have been since I went to Hillsborough earlier to pay my respects there.

QUOTE
That Ynwa was emontinal, I´m still in tears.

JUSTICE FOR THE 96 - NEVER FORGET

QUOTE
Not one to cry but this did it for me.

Its safe to say that if tears were not shed during that LFCTV montage, with the face of each victim being showed every few seconds, you simply have no soul.

Justice for the 96, RIP.
QUOTE
This is the sadest day of the year, I can´t focus on anything else. I´ve been a wreck all day.

On April 15th '89
What should have been a joyous time
Ninety six Friends, we all shall miss
And all the Kopites want justice (JUSTICE!)

QUOTE
GOD BLESS, Rafa singing Y N W A finally did me in, true red , JUSTICE
QUOTE
Was watching the service online earlier. YNWA sang beautifully by the choir...

Every year on this day I also remind myself, by looking at the list of names and their ages, just what a horrible loss it was. It always breaks my heart to see those who were so young who left their mums and dads, brothers and sisters or the older ones who must have had sons and daughters, wives, husbands.
QUOTE
Just watched LFC Now on TV.
The rendition of YNWA was superb.
Held it together but when they showed Rafa singing it sent me in floods of tears.
Gotta love Liverpool FC and gotta love Rafa.
YNWA

QUOTE
That little boy at the end of YNWA wiping his tears away with his scarf had me in bits, hasnt been a dry eye all day in our house.

QUOTE
Please, add a prayer for Serge Saint-Jean (aka "ontour" on liverpool-france.forumactif.com), member of the French Branch, who passed away in London yesterday, on thursday 15th of april, on its way to Anfield. He was the most incredible french fan of all, doing all travels to follow his beloved club all over Europe. Our branch started yesterday with 96 stars to remember, and ended with 97.

96+1 who will never walk alone

The last one said it all for me. It's this kind of devotion that makes me feel proud to be a Liverpool fan. It's why I still wear my kit when I draw flack every day. Just yesterday I got stick from 3 mancs and 1 non-football fan. I keep getting asked why I still bother. When I do, I just smile because I know that they will never understand.

YNWA 96.

Just because we are milllions of miles away it doesn't mean that Hillsborough should mean any less to us. I post these pics each year and I'll do it again. It was what our red brothers and sisters in Indonesia did a couple of years ago in memory of Hillsborough. Seeing this kind of devotion brings tears to my eyes.

Each time you say you are different or you slander rival fans, ask yourself if you are as devoted. If you are, then slander away.

QUOTE(madmoz @ Apr 16 2010, 09:52 AM)
Can you boys arrange something like that next season?
Sadly, I doubt you'd get many to attend. My point of posting the pics of our Indonesian counterparts was two fold.

a) To show that you needn't have been physically present at Hillsborough to pay homage to our fallen reds and,
b) To show that amidst claims from several posters that we are "special" or "different", it means more when you do it than if you were to only say it.

We once tried collecting donations for the victim's families at one of our gatherings via selling merchandise but as yo may have guessed, no takers. Could not hide my disappointment at the time.

QUOTE(melt @ Apr 16 2010, 12:37 PM)
I felt ashamed considering myself as a Liv's fan after seeing those photo posted by Duke.

All credits to our all the brother and sister all over the world for doing the memorial of the Hillsborough disaster.  nod.gif
I feel the same way as you. Once again I wish to reiterate that I'm not just a fan of Liverpool but also a fan of Liverpool fans. I only wish I could be as devoted.

QUOTE(bomberkenny @ Apr 16 2010, 01:44 PM)
unfortunately I don't feel anything about the Hillsborough's incident. I never did put much effort into reading into it. But reading how these brothers and sisters in indonesia paid their tributes, I respect them. Hope myrawk will have a gather next year and put up some educational video/powerpoint, share your testimonies so that we would want to know what you feel, and feel how you feel.
*
It's a bit unfair to expect anyone here to feel anything but at the very least, I think we can read about it to honour the victims and their families and to tell the world of their plight. It's the least we can do.

QUOTE(led_zep_freak @ Apr 16 2010, 02:12 PM)
Up for a tribute although there's no point in our own local fans giving testimonies because we were/are not there physically. If you really want heartfelt testimonials, google around. Some of stories posted on the official website last year (20th anniversary then) had me in tears. It's sad to know that even 21 years after the horrible incident, nobody step up to be accounted. No apologies, no accurate official account of the incident and no transparency. To add insult to injury, the Sh!t was publishing stories that mocked our fans. If you consider yourself a true Liverpool fan, do yourself a favour and read about it, Wiki is a good start. JFT 96.
*
I agree mate. The problem is that younger fans don't see a need to do so. Reminds me of a topic we discussed about a year ago on history being important. The vast majority of fans felt that watching every game was enough, and not knowing one's history didn't matter. Maybe not for any other club but for a club that never forgets, it's a massive crime. I don't expect many to research. As it is you still get posters asking about what the result of a game is when the answer is only a click away.

can sumone explain to me y torres keeps getting injured?? is he fragile or sumthing.. he is our best ever buy but he doesnt stay fit for the whole season.. feel sad for that guy..now 6 weeks out..theres is no more hope i guess..pls prove me wrong redmen!! but then again aint this the best club in the world.. smile.gif
*
Why does he keep getting injured? I'll take a stab at this.

1) He play alone upfront all the time and gets kicked about pretty often.
2) It appears that he an only he is capable of getting goals on his own, resulting in him having to do a lot of work.
3) He plays whenever he is fit and the strain of constantly having to create opportunities on his own, means he suffers from a higher level of fatigue compared to the other lads.
4) Apparently we only have on other striker in N'Gog and he couldn't hit the broadside of an aicraft carrier.

QUOTE(zs3889 @ Apr 19 2010, 09:08 AM)
Dude, not only he is doing all these things, think about Rooney, he attacks, he defends, he assists, he runs the whole pitch. But, he is better because he has good support from midfield to score a goal. What I am trying to imply is Rooney does more works on the field.
*
You hit the nail on the head there mate. Each time Torres plays for us, it looks as though we adopt a "hit the ball up to Torres and hope that he can do something" approach to the game. Rooney may work hard, just like our Dirk Kuyt but unlike Rooney, Torres does not receive the same amount of support. Aside from Benayoun and Gerrard, we don't have any matchwinners. Unlike Torres, Rooney often plays behind a striker, whether it be Berbatov or Owen. He struggles when playing alone upfront.

QUOTE(aiyish @ Apr 19 2010, 10:31 AM)
Yeah, but he did wonders to club and we bought great players that flourish in club level and international level. But our boardroom was a mess.
*
If I were to be harsh and judge his performance on the bottom line, the only "wonder" worth mentioning is the Champions League in 2005. Forget that we finished 2nd last season because it was obviously a smokescreen just as Istanbul was, and let's be honest, in another couple of years, who is going to remember we almost pipped Man Utd to the title? Not sure about our players having flourished at International level. Kuyt and Babel may be regulars for Holland, but so is Johnny Heitinga who plays for Everton. Benayoun plays for a team that doesn't exactly qualify regularly for top level competitions. Skrtel and Kyrgiakos play for average European sides. Reina plays second fiddle to Cassilas. Mascherano may be captain of Argentina but it is a team brimming with talent and even then, they almost didn't make the cut for the World Cup. Anyone thought they'd get thrashed by Bolivia even if it was at the dizzying heights of the La Paz?

Just being realistic here.
