Though none of us were physically present at Hillsborough, and maybe only a little more were fans during the disaster, I feel that as Liverpool fans it is imperative to at least understand the magnitude of it and what it means to our kinsmen over in the UK. One hallmark of being a Liverpool fan is that we never forget. It's why we still utter the name of Bill Shankly and pay respect to him each year. Similarly it's why fans still shed tears during the Hillsborough memorial though it's been just over 20 years. I read all the time how posters here claim that we are different. Well if you ask me, two very big components of what makes this true is that we never forget, and our solidarity. It is important for us to empathise with the families that are still fighting for justice after all this time. If hope that all of you have at least read about Hillsborough. Here are the accounts of several posters on RAWK after witnessing the memorial.

Sat here in my bedroom crying my eyes out. Justice has to be done for these.
Nice to see Rafa singing along to YNWA then too.
QUOTE
Gerrard looked to be fighting back tears there.
QUOTE
In tears. Have been since I went to Hillsborough earlier to pay my respects there.
QUOTE
That Ynwa was emontinal, I´m still in tears.
JUSTICE FOR THE 96 - NEVER FORGET
QUOTE
Not one to cry but this did it for me.
Its safe to say that if tears were not shed during that LFCTV montage, with the face of each victim being showed every few seconds, you simply have no soul.
Justice for the 96, RIP.
QUOTE
This is the sadest day of the year, I can´t focus on anything else. I´ve been a wreck all day.
On April 15th '89
What should have been a joyous time
Ninety six Friends, we all shall miss
And all the Kopites want justice (JUSTICE!)
QUOTE
GOD BLESS, Rafa singing Y N W A finally did me in, true red , JUSTICE
QUOTE
Was watching the service online earlier. YNWA sang beautifully by the choir...
Every year on this day I also remind myself, by looking at the list of names and their ages, just what a horrible loss it was. It always breaks my heart to see those who were so young who left their mums and dads, brothers and sisters or the older ones who must have had sons and daughters, wives, husbands.

Just watched LFC Now on TV.
The rendition of YNWA was superb.
Held it together but when they showed Rafa singing it sent me in floods of tears.
Gotta love Liverpool FC and gotta love Rafa.
YNWA
QUOTE
That little boy at the end of YNWA wiping his tears away with his scarf had me in bits, hasnt been a dry eye all day in our house.

Please, add a prayer for Serge Saint-Jean (aka "ontour" on liverpool-france.forumactif.com), member of the French Branch, who passed away in London yesterday, on thursday 15th of april, on its way to Anfield. He was the most incredible french fan of all, doing all travels to follow his beloved club all over Europe. Our branch started yesterday with 96 stars to remember, and ended with 97.
96+1 who will never walk alone
The last one said it all for me. It's this kind of devotion that makes me feel proud to be a Liverpool fan. It's why I still wear my kit when I draw flack every day. Just yesterday I got stick from 3 mancs and 1 non-football fan. I keep getting asked why I still bother. When I do, I just smile because I know that they will never understand.
YNWA 96.
