i with Justin on this one... i dont pay ASTRO to watch distorted pictures.. dont mind the visual effect of smaller picture in pillarbox either as my 37" LCD already felt too big in term of comfortable watching distance for my small apartment.
i jump straight from CRT to B.yond and already used to thin Rooney. He really doesnt need to be any fatter..

QUOTE(SiriuslyCold @ Mar 11 2010, 02:01 PM) I think the point we're trying to make is that we want the option to be available, whether we're purists and ok with black bars, whether we're ok with fatter Rooney or even if we're ok with headless - and defeeted - chickens what if the update had taken away the pillarbox option? if the choice is either stretch or zoom, i will just bring out my old 29" CRT from the store and use that to watch SD channels. to think about it the other way around, maybe ASTRO dont have a choice in this matter. Maybe its a precondition in HD bussiness that producers have the right for their product to be shown in the way they originally produced....

QUOTE(minimize @ Mar 11 2010, 04:32 PM) Yeah u maybe right about HD channel. But I think we here discuss about SD channels. Stretch or zoom option right now dont give any problem to HD channels. Added on March 11, 2010, 4:38 pmYeah ur right. Just give us all the option and we decide. i was implying that the precondition take effect on every procedure company wide.. like ISO.

QUOTE(djpianz @ Mar 15 2010, 11:15 AM) Protest because they simply doesn't include the "stretch" option, why give one option and take one back. And for those who really asking why some people want to have "stretch" option when viewing SD channel rather than pillarbox, well...it seems that not all of us have large tv, for smaller screen, small pillarbox doesn't hurt them. Just imagine half a foot pillarbox either side of your screen.... don't ask why.damn.. i was just about to do that... Added on March 15, 2010, 2:15 pmQUOTE(akubeejays @ Mar 15 2010, 12:04 PM) Agreed... After using pillarbox for 2 days.. i am starting to begin to accept it.. HOWEVER there still are concerns.. Celestial Movies for one show almost all their shows in a letterbox format.. This gives my tv a double border like look when it adds to pillar box.. You can try this on animal planet as well... It reduces my screen to such a small size..letterbox plus pillar box.. -> What the hell man? I get a plastic border (the tv shell) and also an on screen border and the show is freakishly small.. Edit : And before any smart alec's start telling me to go zoom on such channels... i did that already and when i do.. the subtitles get knocked off the screen (because they are in the letter box border. Switch to AV cable seems to be a stupid solution for just some channels yess.. second living converter i found online... we are getting there ... hang on there ASTRO.. QUOTE(RAMChYLD @ Mar 17 2010, 05:21 PM) Right. That's very slick advertising on their end. Say it would be on HD channel, but purposely leave out the detail about it being NOT in HD. Cue gullible people who don't know better falling left and right. And the sad thing is, people cannot take legal action because they did deliver their promise of the race on HD channel. the fact thats its in ESPN HD instead of ESPN matters to me more than weather its HD or not. The colour is more accurate and sharp than standard SD picture. I dont mind if ASTRO want to upscale any more SD programme and lump it in the very uncrowded HD channels..

QUOTE(rockets @ Mar 18 2010, 04:25 PM) Why not Pillar Box, Zoom, Stretch? Then everyone would be happy. They must be really stupid or it's some kinda technical limitation. pillar and stretch pretty much cover everyone... by the way, what is open caption and close caption? QUOTE(netken @ Mar 23 2010, 01:24 PM) astro now playing an Ad showing that SD best to watch in its standard mode.. and showing the aspect ratio thiggy also for byond.. i still prefer fit to screen! At least when the "international standard" auditor came to check, the can say they have tried their level best to educate the market on the benefit of proper aspect ratio and hope the auditor can waive that requirement.

QUOTE(neb @ Mar 23 2010, 04:18 PM) exactly auditor from where? HDMI? MCMC?... we can only speculate on that one. Astro statement only mention "international standard" since its "international", i dont think its MCMC.. could be HDMI or others..
