Seems the so-called upgrade isn't really - or as far as what is immediately obvious. They may have fixed some problems which we cannot see, but what we can is... no more stretch mode.

I think we just want the option to be available and let us choose which mode.

I think the point we're trying to make is that we want the option to be available, whether we're purists and ok with black bars, whether we're ok with fatter Rooney or even if we're ok with headless - and defeeted - chickens wink.gif

what if the update had taken away the pillarbox option?

while I agree that the purist way of watching 4:3 programmes is in pillar-box mode, I reserve the right to watch it the way I want to.

As well there are purists in audio who think that they should not listen in multichannel because they only have two ears, yet I like running my 2-channel audio through Dolby Prologic II or DTS:Neo.

Should AVR manufacturers remove the DPLII and DTS:Neo option because these are not the "correct" way of listening to stereo material?

I don't see how Astro, having cut the original 16:9 video to transmit in 4:3 have any right to tell us how to watch it. Why don't they transmit SD in 16:9 anyways? if you have a 4:3 screen you'll be letterboxed, and that would be ok because everyone is used to letterboxing.

No, becasue they enhance the quality. Quality is the key to this discussion not distortion. You're fighting for the right to distort.

A true audio purist would content that anything that messes with the original signal is not enhancing quality.

wonders what music producers would think if radio stations play their music distoterdly just because paying listeners like it that way..
*
music producers these days are already distorting the music, but that's another story

what's wrong with leaving the Zoom option alongside the stretch?

in fact why not justify (whatever that is), stretch, zoom1, zoom2 and zoom3 like my TV has

That's good to hear. Now, about those lies regarding F1 in HD and the 10 HD channels by end of year, and the lies the salesman told me about the channels I asked for when I signed up last year...
*
I dunno - they said they would broadcast F1 on ESPN HD - and they did. did they say it was sourced from HD?

I think it is 1.1.2 (from 1.1.0)

there's a "fit to screen" option, but zoom disappears. I guess the 11 people who use it are going to be disappointed.

Well, they have the channel I'd die for...
*
uhmm... you'd die for CBeebies?

I can imagine them censoring the heck out of Fashion TV, and that'll make it worthless

I'm more afraid of the SG scenario - IPTV wins broadcast rights to EPL, and football fans are forced to buy into two monopolies.
