I just purchased a media player that can play up to 1080p movie.

Got mine today and currently connected as below:

Pioneer HT - red white cable - S6T media player - HDMI - Toshiba LCD

Wondering how can I further improve the quality of video and audio...

For audio, is there a way to test whether my HT can play 5.1 things like that?
Maybe with a small video file?

By the way, the player has an optical port, can someone tell me what's it for?

Thanks!

Your Pioneer HT don't have HDMI input?? How is your Red/while cable connected from/to?? If it's from Media player to Pioneer HT, then remove it.

Assuming your Pioneer got no HDMI input, then connect with Optical or Coaxial cable.

S6T media player optical port -> Pioneer HT

That will give you DTS / DD 5.1 BUT

Can you be more specific on the pioneer model? Cos' nowadays will all these cost cutting measures, no one knows what to expect unless they do a little homework like downloading the manual book.

Hi,

My Pioneer is XV-DV262.
just read the manual, it seems like no optical port for this HT, sad...
Any hack or modification I can do?

To be more exact the model should be HTZ262DVD.

Onboard features
Built-in decoders include DTS decoder, Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II; digital AM/FM tuner; PAL/NTSC Progressive Scan; GigaByte Music; 3-spot front surround speakers.

Connectivity
Output: Component-video; S-video composite-video; analog line-out, Input: analog line-in; USB.

Thanks.

Added on March 11, 2010, 10:57 amOkay, found some answer for myself.

To convert digital optical signal to analog stereo signal which support by my pioneer i need this,
"SPDIF Digital to Analogue Stereo Audio Converter"

http://www.lindy.co.uk/spdif-digital-to-an...rter/70408.html

Even with this converter I can't play 5.1 through my pioneer also cause it already degraded to stereo only.

The cost... too expensive :|

So conclusion I would rather upgrade my HT system.

LOL, why do you want to convert your Optical 5.1 to Stereo. Might as well just use back your Red/White cable that I told you to remove (because I thought your HT had AVR with Oprical in)

Yes, thats what I did biggrin.gif

But, its best to sell off that HT as a package and then get a whole new system.

Okay...
But I don think I can sell it for even 500 right? Can I?

If I go for the same option as yours, do you have any recommendation for budget around 500?
Thanks.

Better not simply buy. First you must know more about your speaker specs and what sort of AVR that is suitable for it.

Me not really into this home entertainment thing one.
Just want to play some downloaded HD movies.
Don't have much budget for luxury system also.
Maybe I go snap the picture of my pioneer player port let you all see see.
Then can tell me what port is that and what player suitable for it.

Since we both using pioneer i guess the speaker set and port should be the same as well.
Can you share with me which AVR you are using, how much you bought it and where you bought it?
Pioneer seems to let many people down by giving only red and white stereo.

"some avr can drive ur 4ohm speaker."
My speaker ohm... how to check ah...
Does it matter?

By the way, what is AVR?

speaker impedance is normally printed on the sticker pasted behind the speaker. or u can check it in the manual specification section.

AVR is Audio Video Receiver.

bro,
to get avr with HDMI output or input below 1k quite imposibble. i understand ur intention is to play HD video from USB so u need HDMI. i found few might be over ur budget a lilbit. yamaha V465 for 1.6K or pioneer VSX 919 under 2K.

better spend on good AVR if not u will end up need to spend more for upgrade.

HTZ282/280 cant play HD video through the USB. i tried it before.
