yah when i tested all ta DFI mobo, with kianwee, i can say, i taught our mobo got problems, but it seems proper bios tweaking is required,
i'm running at cpu at 2009mhz, ram at DDR400 2-2-2-6 , and it works flawlessly, of course, dude, since using such nice ram its best to get performance ram, to bottle neck this nice mobo, me and kianwee is till waiting for our OCZ VX memory, best pair with this mobo, just like natural born killers~~ |

ray99mond,
I think I read somewhere in dfistreet or some other forum about DFI nF4's board that the memory settings at default are quite tight. Apart from the usual memory latency settings(cas, ras to cas, ras precharge, tras), the rest have to be loosened quite a bit too. I'm guessing it might be the reason why your D43's can't go higher than 200Mhz. |

That was what I was wondering. Is there anywhere you can purchase just the SLI bridge?
I think very soon there'll be a lot of after market SLI bridges floating around. |

im referin to another anandtect statement... QUOTE UPDATE 2/05/2005: nVidia has acted to prevent, or at least make it more difficult, to mod the Ultra board to SLI. First, DFI has advised us, and posted on their website, that they will NOT sell the SLI bridge to buyers of the Ultra board. Second, nVidia has advised us that future shipments of the Ultra chipset have been modified so that the mod to SLI will no longer be possible. An additional side effect of this second action is that the "Dual Video" mode, which performs at about 90% of SLI performance levels, will only work with nVidia SLI drivers 66.75 or earlier. If you do a quick check of web driver postings you will see it is now very difficult to find 66.75 drivers. With a chipset modded to SLI the "Dual Video" mode worked through 70.xx versions of the nVidia driver. nVidia also made it clear they will continue to make driver changes to prevent functioning of any "non-standard" (8X/8X) operation of their SLI driver. This also throws into question whether the VIA "dual graphics" mode on the 894 Pro chipset will ever work with nVidia graphics cards. If you are interested in the current UT Ultra-D we suggest you buy one now if you can find it. Future versions of the UT Ultra-D will not have the same capabilities as a result of these actions. from here |

![]() For those plan to get a DFI nF4 Ultra D to mod it to SLi.. please check your nF4 Ultra chipset .. the 1st pic is able to do the mod coz it is engineering sample or early stock the 2nd pic is the recent nf4 ultra board that I received, Nvidia did some hard mod on this chipset, so It is highly unmoddable .. (this is my observation only, not sure) |

I read elsewhere if you are brave enough, you can scrape off the enamel they used to cover the 2 points. All you have to do then is connect the bridges with some conductive material e.g. conductive pen.
Do at your own risk though. Looks like its very easy to scrape too much off |

Best of luck mate!
I think it would be a good idea to look out for newer guides that describe the steps to do it before you start. Don't wanna kill a brand new board there. |

havent check mine yet...hope it's moddable...
anyway...just got the time to setup my rig last nite...i got a few question if anyone mind to share their expertise: 1. Anybody use the Thermalright XP-120 with Ultra-D. it's damn hard to put my Twinx1024-C2PRo coz of the damn big ramsink. 2. Coz of #1, I can only put them on DIMM 1 & 3 (after doing some wresting with the HSF), but once power up, got beep and the led showed that my ram are not detected even thou i can see the led on my ram is going up and down i.e. some activites going on. Already flash the bios to the latest one. Pull out the power cable, cleared the CMOS, unplugged the battery. wait some time and reverse the process. Start the system, OK. But if I go into the BIOS and load the optimized setting and restart, got the same problem back. RAM not detected. Once, i tried to proceed to load windows without entering the loading the optimized setting - OK. Got into windows, mem running at dual-channel. But when I restart the pc, same thing happen again. RAM CANNOT BE DETECTED again. aiya.... 3. to run at dual-channel, do I need to put the sticks at DIMM2 & 4 i.e. ONLY - cannot put at DIMM1 & 3 like most P4 mobo. Running single channel is OK btw but defeat the purpose of having the matched pair, izznt it. any help is very much appreciated. meanwhile, i'll be going for a looong sailing over the net to find the solution. QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Mar 23 2005, 02:14 PM) Yeah...2 & 4 only just like the manual says. Should have installed the rams....THEN install the heatsink. was hoping the manual and the warning by BIOS is wrong... but...i wonder why when i reset the cmos, restart, proceed to windows w/out going into bios, cpu-z detected my mem is running on dual channel...and this is at DIMM1 & 3...hmmm...maybe dfi need to come-out with another fix for this...if not, then there's no need to have the diff color coded for dimm1&3 and dimm2&4, isn't it? |

just fixed up my DFI nf4 ultra-d with vitestas ddr 500 and x850xt pe last nite..everything boot up nicely...running pretty fast(compared to my p4 3ghz) and 3dmark2005 came up nicely at 6.2K...apart from the major gripe about the bridge heatsink being placed too close to the pci-e slot, not much complaints...oh yeah..and the funny pattern of having the DIMMS in slot 1 & 3 ONLY for dual channel..doesn't make sense

Most mosfets are made to withstand super duper high temps (in excess of 100C). No harm sticking a small HS using AS5 adhesive though if you're worried. So far there's not really any increase in OC or stability but I guess it gives you peace of mind running at those extreme levels
As for RAM, its always a good idea to use a fan to cool them. It may help with stability at higher FSB's/vdimm. |

ahah i totally understand u man... same thing here the thing is if u install the rams first, it will block the installation of the xp-120 then if u install the xp-120 first, dimm4 is blocked... ahaha until the end we have to wrestle our rams in i'm running my UTTs at 3.5v yea the mosfets are real hot (~50c) even with a 100cfm delta on the xp-120 partially blowing the mosfet sinks |

remysix, I think it was me who mentioned about mosfet temperatures. I did a rough measurement before and my mosfet sinks were hovering around the 80C mark! I bet before having the sinks on they were much higher too ;P
I guess I will be the only DFI nf4 owner with water cooling? |

It comes with 2 separate PCI-E connector.
The less than 600W ATX V2 models came with one. |

I see, thanks sniper!
irenic, I was wondering if the PCI-E power connector is 2 separate cables from the PSU or if its actually just one cable from PSU but split into 2 connectors at the end like most of the other molexs. |

Sorry, I should be more specific. It's meant for the PCI-E graphic cards like 6800GT and Ultra series. To run SLI both of them need to be powered that's why I asked whether there's 2 separate cables or if its shared.

it's not a problem...it is designed as such...that's actually my argument why thet have 1&3 same color coded when both cannot be used to run dual-channel...maybe future bios update will address this issue...

from my own experience, i bought my enermax 465 watter ATX v. 1.2 (i think) with 33amps on my 12v rail almost 2 years ago...that time got no 24-pin connector mobos (or so I thought) so i curi my friend's 20-24 pin connector and connected it to my DFI NF4 Ultra-D...no problems at all, still running stock on 3/10 BIOS though. Memtest86 found no errors on my adata vitesta ddr 500 at SPD (3-4-4-8) and all running on stock. Will try OCing it tomorrow to see how high I can go...

afaik, the dfi nf4 really hates hynix. there are plenty of people who can't even get it to work at all. i guess a bios flash will slove your problem, but like evogenix, you can't go high.
try flashing the bios. if you do not know how to flash using dos prompt, use winflash. |

Well, DFI boards were never really easy to work with especially in the begining. Once you've tweaked everything right, the board really shines with its full potential unleashed. Just gotta be a little patient and hope for better bios release and a considerable amount of time tweaking

I doubt the Hardcano temperature is more accurate since it's reading the temperature of the heatspreader, not the core itself.

so in other words, there isn't a better way to get a direct temp of core?? perhaps by prying off the IHS..?

Yeah, but since there's no way to put the sensors directly onto the core with the heatspreader on, we have to settle for second best which is the temp of the heatspreaders or software readings. |

Sorry to bring this off topic for a bit. No point for me to post a new thread just to ask a simple question.
I remembered seeing a few peeps here using the Enermax 600W Noisetaker. I wanted to get the OCZ 600 Powerstream but it seems that there's a shortage here whereas I can get the Enermax within 1 or 2 days and for a good price too. My parts are starting to collect dust waiting for a new PSU Just wanna get some feedback from users of either PSU's on their usage experiences and rail readings. Thanks guys! |

I saw the Silverstone one too and initial impressions seem to be pretty good! User however have complained about the noisy fans and due to its quad rail setup, it isn't very good apparently. I guess i'll just have to wait for the OCZ before I can fire up my SLI-DR

i just put on a delta 12cm on my xp120
now my hardcano temp is 37.3C while smartguardian temp is between 39-41C, PWM is 41C, chipset is 45C i can feel a very strong air that comes from the delta fan inside my casing.. i dunno whether it will effects the casing airflow.. i touch the side of the bottom part of my xp120 n i dont feel hot at all.. it just like touching the heatsink that just come out of the box.. hmm... edited* the temp above is during idle (surfing, chatting with winamp playing mp3s in the background) updated : pic of my rig with xp120 + delta 12cm in action~! hehe This post has been edited by irenic: Apr 7 2005, 08:24 PM Attached thumbnail(s) |

UTT produce less heat compare with bh5 and bh6. with the ram heat spread, i think u can use it for 24/7 even in 3.4v |

simple really.
cuz i'm afraid if i leave it 24/7 at 3.4V and above,i'm going to bust my stuff. Why would I want to have it at 250MHz when I'm sleeping and leaving it to download CSI right? but i'll still overclock sikit-sikit...maybe within 10% lidat lor...gila meh buy DFI and UTT but dowan to overclock at all. Hehe..... btw,why are those guys at xtremesystems.org having soooo many dead DFI's??? this is bloody scary man. |

hrmm... i got a question here, between acbel 500W and enermax noisetaker 600W, which one is more suitable for dfi ultra D? (not going for sli) acbel has 3 12v rails with 11A, 21A and 12A while enermax has 2 12v rails with 18A and 18A. for acbel, the 11A for cpu is sufficient or not? i'm running amd64 Win 3200+
i'm using galaxy 6600gt (2.0 ns series), was wondering whether it has it own power plug or not, because the third 12v rail in acbel ipower 500W is for vga. if there's other better psu than these, please pen down that too.... hrmm... there are more than 1 question there, sorry and thanks... |

Just got my PSU yesterday. I tried using my BH6 which wasn't even stable at 235FSB at any vdimm on my LPB NF2 and I manage to boot into Windows at 260FSB 3.4vdimm with A64. Haven't tested stability yet but it was good for surfing and installing drivers
Will bench soon when I have more time on hand |

maybe offtopic, but juz wanna ask.. i wanna oC the gC, do we need to oC both at same speed? due 1 of the GC has bad ventilation [the fan in cramped space] the oC might drop significantly rite?[overheat] |

QUOTE(e-jump @ Apr 14 2005, 10:48 AM) guys... anyone running SLi? I'm not aware of anyone here running SLI yet but I will be soon in a couple of weeks when I get more cash. Currently using my old but trusty GF4MX 440 PCI maybe offtopic, but juz wanna ask.. i wanna oC the gC, do we need to oC both at same speed? due 1 of the GC has bad ventilation [the fan in cramped space] the oC might drop significantly rite?[overheat] To run SLI, both cards have to be identical - bios, speeds, manufacturer, everything identical basically. The graphic card in the first PCI slot would have higher temps I suppose as the flow of air will be disrupted by the 2nd graphic card. You may or may not have to drop overclock speeds to run in SLI successfully. Are you planning to do SLI? Let us know how it goes |

Important Information for DFI nForce4 users~!!! Follow the steps below before you hangus your RAMs
QUOTE(Onepagebook From XS) when you play winbond utt type of ram on DFI NF4 series, and if you set the jp17 on 2-3, after your play is done. PLEASE, do as followed: jp17 is the jumper that enable the 4.0vdimmClear CMOS before set the jp17 back to default 1-2 position or set the 3.2v before set the jp17 back to 1-2. Several of my friends already killed their ram already. Be very careful about this. and be sure look at when you set 2.6v and see if voltage monitor under the bios is showing exactly what you set. If i remember correctly this problem effects 2 people in the whole community.
I think it is a luck problem or noobness problem instead of a motherboard problem. This post has been edited by Sony Trinitron: Apr 16 2005, 10:48 AM |

Hehe funny la u fellas
Anyway I got a question and i'm not sure if it should be posted here. I'm running the SLI-DR and I got 2 SATA drives. When I load into WinXP SP2, I have the Safely Remove Hardware icon in my taskbar. Funny thing though its my 2 SATA HDD's that are available for remove??? Doesn't make sense to me. What if I remove my C:\ where Windows is? |

SP2 problem maybe Anyway I got a question and i'm not sure if it should be posted here. I'm running the SLI-DR and I got 2 SATA drives. When I load into WinXP SP2, I have the Safely Remove Hardware icon in my taskbar. Funny thing though its my 2 SATA HDD's that are available for remove??? Doesn't make sense to me. What if I remove my C:\ where Windows is? |

hi, my friend just bought a DFI Ultra-D.
he's using Twinmos UTT 2x512mb. but it seems like no matter what he set , from 2.8v till 3.0v he can't passed memtest for an hour. Memory timing are all auto and CPC off. Can anyone help him to solve this matter? thank you. This post has been edited by apexi78: Apr 17 2005, 12:54 AM |

Which bioses perform the best for you guys with BH5/UTT chips?
I tried a couple of bioses like 310 official, 313-1, 313-2. I now have trouble booting up my SLI-DR using the orange slots. Tried one BH6 stick in the 1st yellow slot and managed to flash back to 310 official. Put in 2 sticks Twinmos UTT in yellow or orange wouldn't boot either after that. Any idea what caused this? Managed to boot in again using first yellow slot and I get a warning to use slot2 for single channel and 2 modules in slot2 n slot4 for dual channel. So I tried again in slot2 and 4 as recommended but I can't boot again. The LED lights show 1,2 and 3 lit up. Can anyone help me please? |

Yeap, I always reset CMOS after flashing. Any other ideas that could fix this? I managed to flash back to 310 official though using my BH6 in dimm1.

Can anyone give me more information about RMA-ing a motherboard? I found the problem and its due to one of the connectors in dimm2 not making contact with my ram. There's one metal connector that appears to be flattened when the ram is inserted.
My dad got this motherboard for me from Viewnet in Lowyat plaza. Do I have to send the board back to Malaysia for RMA? Hopefully I don't have to and a local distributor can do it here for me If anyone knows about RMA please enlighten me. My SLI-DR is inoperable for now |

if your local distro willing to do it, then fine...just let them do it la...but i think maybe u need to bear the cost (if any)...coz if send to viewnet and they have to send for RMA, viewnet will bear the cost, but yes, u r in sydney...just try ur luck with the local distro...

yeah.. i think you should find out your local distributer before you sent back to m'sia [gonna cost you alot on the transfering]
just tell the local distributer about the problem you facing.. i think they should understand... or you go dfi website and try to email them your situition before you pay them a visit p/s : oversea RMA might much more easier than m'sia... their custumer service Evogenix This post has been edited by Evogenix: Apr 18 2005, 09:22 PM |

Thanks for all the replies guys! Really appreciate your offers and concerns
I've contacted a few distros here in Australia but to my understanding, if it wasn't bought locally (in Australia) there won't be any warranty for me. So i'll just finalise that first when they reply tomorrow before I decide my next step. Atm, I think the best is to return back to Viewnet asap. I'm not sure what is their 1 to 1 change policy like but atm, it is still under 1 month from purchase date. Hopefully can get this sorted out soon. My 2 week holiday just started today and this happened to me EDIT: I forgot to ask, for RMA purposes do I have to return the whole package or just the motherboard box? The SLI-DR package isn't very small This post has been edited by De_Cruelz: Apr 18 2005, 09:51 PM |

i think the warranty is quite good la...it's 5 years warranty isn't it...and i believe it's 2 years 1-to-1 warranty or izzit shop warranty...other 3 need direct with the manufacturer...just make sure u have their invoice or invoice number...maybe kianwee can confirm with his buddy over there...good luck

Wow, that's great news then if its really for the first 3 months. I looked at the invoice though and it says 1 to 1 exchange is only for 1 week? If any of you could confirm that, it would be great!
Also, do I have to return the whole package or just the motherboard for warranty claims? |

ray...i'm using twinx 1024-c2pro as per my sig...i can do 240fsb at 2336...for 2.5-3-3-6...i think if i can remember correctly, i can do 260...and with 3-4-4-7...stuck at 270...and i thought mine was the worst corsair...i could never go beyond 270...i have tried so many setting but still stuck at 270...maybe the proc mem controller is limiting it..

QUOTE(kianwee @ Apr 24 2005, 08:31 PM) At default the chipset fan is loose (try to move it, it wiggles). what i did was i took out the chipset fan and remove the gay square sponge, remove the yellow thermal conductive shit (you will know why when you see it) and apply some AS5. Snap that cooler back and voila, my temp now idle at 42. Before that was 47-48. i already did this since the 1st day i bought the board.. but till now it still wiggles |

ask u guys.....
I have 2x512 hynix D43 KVR. I tested 1:1 up to 260fsb and it ran stable in memtest86 for hours. So i decided to up my cpu clock speed by using divider. I set FSB to 280, multi to 9 and divider 9/10. It did post but didnt boot into windows or memtest. My vdimm is 2.8v, VID = 1.425 * 110% , vLDT = 1.4v , chipset = 1.8v.... any idea guys ? |

I already know the answer......
D43 doesnt like divider. So i stick back to 260x9 = 2.34ghz. Vcore is 1.42v shown in smartguardian and cpuz. Rock stable ! Full load temp only 43C using stock HSF and even the original themal paste. |

Most of the people trapped by the winnies incapability of handling four slots double sided RAM making them run at DDR333 moreover 2T configuration resulting in severely reduced performance..
However single sided RAM occupying four slots would do DDR400 but at 2T... Fellas..never ever try to neglect the importance of choosing ur RAM wisely on AMD64 platform---the mem controller is quite fussy... |

hi.. i just want to ask, anyone have done OC with fsb 340 with dfi ultra-d.
& for people who have done OC 1:1 with fsb above 250. what u set for htt multiplayer... 3x? if im doing 1:1 with 260fsb and set the HTT multiplayer to 3x, so HT value is 260x3=780. does this HTT value play an important role in overall performance..........?? |

i set the LDT/fsb to 3x when oc-ed over 250htt
if you goin for 340htt, set the LDT/fsb freq to 2x high htt wont give you much improvement in your overall performance. so, low htt freq with high clock speed will be the best setting for amd64 system Evogenix |

i believe it's more for your system stability rather than performance...that's why when u go more than 250, it would be best to have x3...and x2 if more than 270 (if not mistaken)...
is it correct?? |

QUOTE(kianwee @ May 5 2005, 02:09 AM) Why not just get a new board? you can sell your SLI-DR after RMA. If i were you, I can't wait that long. I thought about that but too ex la the SLI-D or SLI-DR here. SLI-DR cheapest in Australia excluding postage is $369 AUD. Somemore now got problem with RMA. Those interested can read my post at dfi-street: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10829Its a long read though. Looks like my SLI rig will be delayed much longer. Don't know if they will approve RMA or not yet also. I can send it back to Taiwan for repair or replacement but it would cost me approx $100 AUD. See what they can do first for now This post has been edited by De_Cruelz: May 5 2005, 03:04 PM |

Send back to Malaysia should be cheaper compared to sending to Taiwan I think. I'm not sure how long Viewnet will take before I can get a replacement though. They might have to send it back to distro, bla bla bla, and dunno how long it'll take. If I send back to Taiwan i'm assured of a repair or replacement. Only concern atm is the shipping price there

Hey all, if any of you were following my problem with RMA i've decided to purchase another SLI-DR and RMA the faulty one direct to DFI Taiwan. I guess i'll have to bear the $55 AUD post charges but that's the best solution already to cut my losses. Hopefully the price won't depreciate too much when I sell it later as it's eating into my savings for a SLI setup
Hopefully by Monday i'll receive it and then I can start some crazy overclocking with it again. |

Hehe my CPU managed to bench at 2.8Ghz with 1.6vcore using STOCK cooler
I wonder what can it do with water cooling and more vcore. 2.9Ghz prime stable perhaps? |

I've just removed the stock TIM for the chipset and replace it with AS5, the temperature instantly dropped 3 degrees!

The yellow TIM on my board kinda hardens, very easy to scrape off. Not using the board first and heating up the TIM probably helps. This is a new board btw, sold off my Ultra-D and bought an SLI-D earlier today |

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ May 8 2005, 12:33 AM) Laziness basically Lazy to hunt for the SLI bridge and conductive paint Guys, I just noticed something this morning. Using lower vdimm will make the mosfet next to the 5v jumper hotter! At 2.6v vdimm, the temperature is higher than the max detectable temp of my thermometer which is 100 degrees! At 2.8v vdimm the temperature of the mosfet goes down to 60+...... |

weird...it's like when u supply a low vdimm...the mosfet (powermosfet) is working extra to ensure the juice is good enuff...hence the excessive heat and hi temp...interesting

Well, don't forget the vdimm power source is from the +3.3V rail and it has to be regulated to supply 2.6vdimm hence the heat. Energy cannot be destroyed hence turning it into heat

Haha yeap, I noticed!
My friend told me of that offer at XS but you already bought it. Let us all know how it performs on your system. When will you be receiving it? Hehe about time we see some SLI performance around here! Do let me know though if you plan on selling it within the next few weeks otherwise I will have to purchase brand new This post has been edited by De_Cruelz: May 9 2005, 12:11 PM |

How much you willing to let go the X850XT for? Anyways consider the SLI setup sold if I haven't got myself one in the next few weeks. Currently pending lots of payments to my account |

Hey no worries gavlim! This is after all the DFI NF4 thread
Here's a screenie I took while running prime blend to test mem stability awhile back before I RMA-ed my mobo. I was using the OCZ 600 Powerstream with all rails at default voltage I think. ![]() Well, not exactly what you requested with idle/load. I must say though that the PSU will handle anything you can throw at it as I have yet to touch the adjustable rails yet. Paid $320 AUD for it. Not sure of its price in KL though |

Well, I guess you get what you pay for. I must say that it's the best performing PSU thus far. I'll put it to the test more once I setup my SLI and watercooling
Damn, my new SLI-DR should be arriving today. It's already 5pm and nothing yet though. I guess i'll only be getting it tomorrow |

kianwee, i'm not 100% sure but I think you need to run your ram in 2T. If you're running in 1T that might be the reason why its unstable.
Btw, got the Venice from the US? How much did you pay for it? |
