you'll need amplification device to run 5.1 channel speakers, and the problem is TV's don't output multichannel audio.

just connect the L+R analog output from your TV to your 5.1 system L+R input. you can only get dolby surround or dts neo6 if u have the processor such as an AVR for that.

Get HTiB (Home Teather in box). Its the cheapest to get 5.1 sound.

u can't...but u can if you have a dvd or bluray player with 5.1 analog out...most cap ayam dvd player has dedicated 5.1 analog out...

connect 3 pairs of rca from the dvd analog out to your 5.1 analog in receiver...make sure all linked properly...meaning LR to LR, rear LR to rear LR, center to center and sub to sub...

then just set the dvd player to do analog out....

then find a good dts / dolby digital dvd titles...and test it...if u can get discrete channels from the film, the you're on the right track...

or check if your receiver has spdif coaxial or optical...if yes, use these connection with proper cabling...but have to set the dvd player to do digital spdif / rca or something...

to get picture from the lcd, use hdmi or component from the dvd player to the tv...

oh...read the manual from the dvd player...it should tell everything tongue.gif

i have the same recommendation as silbii,

For the sound:
Use DVD/BLuray player with 6 RCA outs and connect that to your speakers...

For the Picture:
From that player connect to TV via HDMI or Component

This will limit your 5.1 experiences to only your player...if you have other items such as PS3/Astro B.yond/Media Player then these may be compromised...

auto switching inputs is a function of HDMI connections.

I've blogged about how I connected B.yond to my home theatre
here http://stinkyfruit.wordpress.com/2010/01/2...b-yond-decoder/

you need to have an amp or home theatre with HDMI inputs. check you TV's user guide for proper connections methods as they many not be the same as my system.
