HTC recently unveiled the HTC Legend Android smartphone alongside the Desire and the HD Mini. What sets this particular handset apart from the rest is its aluminum unibody construction. The phone's body is carved out of a single block of aluminum (ala Macbooks) and its internals are slotted into it. This gives the phone a more solid feel while at the same time, giving it a very refined look.
The Legend is not just appealing on the outside, for it packs some mean muscle under the hood. A 600MHz processor (Qualcomm MSM7227) and the same integrated GPU that powers the Google Nexus One (AMD z430) powers the phone. The phone also has 384MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM. Its screen though (at 3.2"), is smaller compared to the Nexus One and the Legend's older brother, the Desire.
The Legend also sports the latest version of the Android operating system, Android v2.1 (or Eclair) coupled with its very own HTC Sense UI.
The HTC Legend is available for pre-order for those in the UK for GBP 399 and will be available on the 1st of April 2010. Hopefully we don't have to wait too long before it arrives on Malaysian shores (with a reasonable price tag). This is one sexy beast I'd love to own.

My hope is that it doesn't break the Rm2.4k barrier. Afterall there's the Desire or Incredible for super high-end users. Please lord have mercy on our bank accounts...
My expectation is that this phone will launch here at around RM1999 price range, replacing the Hero for that segment whereas the Hero's price will drop by around 200 bucks.
**I hope I'm right XD
I was initially looking to get the Desire but judging by its launch price in UK, I think it's gonna be around the HD2's current price (almost 3k). No way I can afford to pay that much...
Update: 1st review is up (added in 1st post) but it's a really short one. Not at all informative enough ><
This post has been edited by chinook: Mar 7 2010, 08:15 PM
Probably around 2.5k ringgit, might as well get nexus one >_>
Don't think it'll be that high. HTC Hero launched here at RM2399. Should be lower than that since the launch price of the Legend is lower than the launch price of the Hero in UK/EU.
I would get a Nexus One too if its warranty was applicable here. Going to SG for a warranty claim is a pain.
heard will ke around 2.2k - 2.3k. but the processor...hmm...
2.6k can get Nexus 1 right?
nexus one cheaper than that..people can sell for like RM2.3k and still can get little profit. i have a spare brand new N1 shipping from US.. probably end of this week or early next week will arrive here

it's not a coating. It's MADE of aluminium. A chunk of aluminium with insides carved out to fit the 'guts' of the Legend. Makes it even more awesome huh?
Makes me wonder whether it's recycled aluminium. Then they can market it as a green product. LOL

So far reviews have been good. Most giving it 9/10. =)
My only concern is the Wi-Fi reception. One of the reviews (tech radar i think) mentioned that the Wi-Fi reception was weaker on the Legend compared to other phones. None of the other reviews mentioned that though... Hopefully the problem only affects that particular unit or is a problem that only affects pre-retail units used for testing/reviewing.
EDIT: Engadget has also mentioned the weaker Wi-Fi in their review.

Weird some reviews say the battery lasts for 6 hours while others say it lasts 36 hours. Hope there's time to rectify the software before it hits the market.
I am planning to buy an Android phone, HTC preferably. Should I go for this Legend or is there something better on offering in the near future (1 - 3 months down the line)? I would prefer to go for something that is below RM2k mark. Or should I buy Hero as an entry 'Droid phone?
Automationbites actually already listed this phone on their site. I'm thinking to purchase a unit from them but have anyone heard/bought any phones from them?
Are their prices generally okay and what about their after-sales service?
Good News, guys! The Legend (along with the Smart and the HD Mini) will be launched in Malaysia next week. No word on pricing yet though, but do check out HTC Msia's Facebook page for more updates.
The red coloured HTC Legend is featured on their SEA site. But from what I read, this is only a special edition for SFR in France. Can anybody confirm if this will be sold here?

The FB page is a fan page and not official HTC Malaysia office, so I doubt the credibility of their information. I would believe SIS Malaysia or any of the retailers if they confirm officially.

Hmm they are selling 2150, and thats the price for an AP set? Hopefully the price goes down when it is officially launch...else I could buy a better spec Nexus one with about 100 ringgit more

I asked and was quoted RM2100 by them. Look for this guy dreamitcentre. Apparently he's selling it at RM1999 with a free bluetooth headset. Original SIS warranty. Just checked with him again last night - no stock as yet.

Don't think have much time to meddle with it tonite. Can hardly open my eyes now and I seriously still don't know my way around the Android. I'm so lost LOL.
I was at HTC KLCC and the guy don't know anything about it and even said that the M'sian launch is not happening yet. Good to know that they're selling at LowYat oredi.

I noticed quite a few things which I like are not featured in the Legend, namely the Live Wallpaper and the new Google Maps. I'm pretty sure there is one way or another to get it but it would be nice if the are there right out of the box.
I tested it at Digital Mall, PJ too. Pictures don't do it justice. It looks REALLY good when you hold it in your hands. Hardware feels really solid and sturdy. No weird creaking noises like on Nokia phones. Interface was smooth for the most part but Leap was not as smooth as I expected. Screen was fantastic, AMOLED really is a terrific screen.
I didn't really had time to test the software. Can anyone confirm whether Android Market is present by default on SIS Legends?

AMOLED is fantastic, until you bring it under the sun that is. But other than that it beats any other types of screen out there in the market at the moment. Color is crisp and the viewing angle is excellent, not very good for people who wants more privacy with what they are doing on their mobile though.
The SIS set does come with Android Market, albeit it is an 'inferior' version of it. I don't see paid apps in it.
The only other complain I have at the moment is the lack of Live Wallpaper. I managed to get the APK of the latest Google Map (this is not found in the pre-installed Market though it's a free app) but haven't got time to install it yet. Hopefully it works because I do need the turn-by-turn navigation function.
No offense to anyone, but why's Live Wallpaper so important? It takes up resources and battery life and serves no real function. Most people don't even use it on desktops. I simply don't get the significance of moving wallpapers...
About navigation, try looking for the APK of Sygic for Android.
live wallpaper is disabled for Hero & Legend coz of performance drain. Both phones use two relatively slow processors (500+ & 600Mhz), so its good to have live wallpaper disabled. Even on hero, you will notice a lag when you enabled a few apps.
Im waiting for Desire TBH. (and will move to EVO if htc brings it here).
its a bit hard to use EVO here since it uses CDMA and 4g technology. i highly doubt our local telco companies would try and experiment on this sort of things. no sim card no phones. *sad*

None taken.
I certainly know how resource-hungry animated wallpaper is. But being new to Android, I'm curious of every possibility. After all, that's the exact reason why I switched from the iPhone. Also, I'm quite gila about eye candy lah...Hehe, otherwise would have opted for the Nexus One or Desire. But I'm attracted to the Legend's form factor and design. I know I might regret one day for choosing aesthetic over practicality.
I think I found Sygic somewhere but didn't know where to get the maps for Malaysia. Mind PM-ing me if you happen to know?
Cheers mate!

You are correct. I am hoping for a compatible version of Evo to arrive in our shore. Evo itself is exclusively made for Sprint users. I particularly like to 720p video recording and hdmi output. Could use them plenty.

Tested htc legend past 1 hour ago... at senQ at bandar perda,penang... that was fast after official release the product reached here even milestone din reach here yet.. weird.. what gizmodo.com write in their review are true... the most solid phone. . I can feel the luxurious gadget while holding it.. the speed is very smooth... I just take about 30min played with it... but still not enuf feel... Here sum pic of it.. red color.. sry my htc magic camera not good enuf... lol
What I can say about its hardware is... flawless. the body is hard, solid and pretty shiny The camera was enuf to giv u good quality picture with flash and zoom even the zoom is not too far.. the vid taken.. also good.. can catch up the motion well... overall the camera and cam hardware is slightly improved from htc hero.. but the sound recorded by taking the vid is not good enuf.. same with other htc phone even nexus one... htc hardware weakness.. The amoled screen seem a lil brighter than my htc magic.. and the touch respond are far better.. the finger register really precise even at the end of the screen.. Sound quality is nicer.. an louder than my magic.. the plastic red at the back of the phone near the camera do absorb the speaker vibaration relly well. Everything is good but just 1 thing I don't like most.... the optical circle sensor on the chin of the phone.. its really sensitive... while testing the phone( while doing finger gesture on the touch screen or while pressing the button on the bottom of the screen) I always accidentally touch the sensor and the unwanted motion happens.. really2 annoying at most time.. actually I dunno how to disable it .. maybe I need more time to test it all.. Not same as my magic... after locking the screen to active the screen back on even on the lock mode.. just press the menu button..but on htc legend it won't happen.. so I need to press the on/off button back on the top of the phone to active the screen.. the lil differences between new htc phone and old one...
About new sense... everything is wonderfull... because of highly responsive touch screen the pinch zooming homescreen to helicopter mode is smooth and fast.. the default media app are just same with older htc sense version... Pinch zooming inside browser also fast and smoother than htc hero I've tested before. After tested it I feel a lil crush on this phone.... mostly while holding it.... the ultimate luxurious feel I can obtain...
For new android fan who want to buy their 1st android phone.. this phone is highly recommended.. with price tag rm1999..
just tried this phone at the mines rm2388 and no free BT. A bit pricey. This phone got no call and end call button. The screen lock button must press power button on right top. To activate slide menu, must press the power button. I thought it's like iphone just press the middble button, it can't.
RM1999. They gave me a free anti glare screen protector. But no other freebies. It's OK. It's just a gorgeous phone to hold in your hand, really.
Was it just purely the design that attracted you? Coz with a RM50-200 more, you could get a Nexus One which has much better features. My colleague was thinking of getting the HTC legend, simply because he likes the design better. The red is quite eye-catching....i just didn't like the skateboard look to it, ie. the raised part at the bottom of the phone

Mine doesn't seem to jut out or making any funny noises.
i have tested this phone before it released to the public. notice there are few issues with the phone, BATTERY problem. however, if you know how to tweak, it can last you at least 2 days usage:
1.Exchange push mail 2.Gmail 3.make couple phone calls average of 5 mins per call 4.SMS 5.turn off 3G 6.do not set friend stream widget at home screen ( it will drain your battery )

Yes, battery life is terrible. I charge it everyday but oh well, that's because I set all my accounts to sync every couple of hours or so But then, my News widget is not updating itself! Am subscribing to Malaysia Insider RSS.

Yeah I guess pouch should be quite easily available isn't it? But I'm waiting for a hard casing, preferably a black translucent one!

if i would to position HTC legend between Blackberry and iphone, i would place HTC in betwwen Blackberry and iPhone. this phone is superb and i would say is one of the most solid phone that i ever tested. highly recommended to those who wanna get an android phone.

About the last sentence.. the rise part called chin... Seriously before I bought my htc magic(also have a chin) I also din like it... but.. the chin role the biggest job on phone's hardware.. coz it protect the screen from certain pressure. Believe me u will like it for sure after using it for long time period.

How to claim warranty if u buy Nexus one? is there any warranty covered in Malaysia? this could be a very strong point adding to the factor of buying HTC legend.

The design was one of the big selling point, The build quality is amazing. The unibody aluminium feels so good in your hands. I wanted to wait for the HTC Desire (I wouldn't buy the Nexus One because no HTC Sense and also Google support issues).
I change my phone quite regularly. So for less than RM 2k for this Legend. it';s a no brainer. I am still looking to play with the HTC Desire. I will always look for local set with local SIS warranty for better resale value (again because I change my phone so often). Doesn't matter if I root my phone or not.
But the Legend is small enough to fit nicely on my hands and the red is really stunning. No regrets!

As far as I know, Google's Nexus One needs to be submitted online for fault reporting. Since there's no distributor or retail store.
However, in US, if you buy it under a contract with the mobile operator, you can send it back to the operator, I think.
But for Malaysia, I believe if the retail shop you buy the phone from can give you some sort of warranty, that would be the best you can get. Correct me if I'm wrong.

another word, there is no local warranty for nexus one imagine you spend 2k to buy nexus one and few months down the road, the phone is malfunction. lol
basically htc legend and desire's differences are only hardware. of course its better to own a desire than legend if you are performance hunger. anyway, there are ppl selling desire in lelong for around 2k. perhaps you should take a look.

Design...build quality...hmmm...that's subjective. Teflon coating on N1 is really not that bad. HTC Sense vs plain vanilla launcher...prefer the latter, but that's again subjective. I like RAW performance. Support...agreed. Can't have everything...the good stuff about the N1 more than compensates for it...again subjective. For support, Singapore is really not that far away. Google support issues? I thought N1 integrates better with Google than other Android sets?
One really nice plus point i would really like to add for the N1 is the noise cancellation feature, which the Desire doesn't have. Again, its just a cheap version of the N1. But I do have grouses on my N1....useless trackball (although I like how it illuminates when there's phone activity), Bluetooth headset problems and small external speakers (I was previously a W950 user).
I guess I'll recommend the Legend to my colleague if he favors the same qualities of the phone as you. Thanks!

Singapore is really not that far away. I've never been in Singapore my whole life, if i'm to dedicate my time to Singapore just because to claim some warranty over a phone, wow, that'd be a good point. Just so u know, not everyone have the time to go visit the Lionhead at times.
Oh well , u got urself a nexus one and i'm pretty sure u want to convince urself that u have the best. Good job on that.

Nah...not saying that the N1 is the best...just saying that it is not that bad, when others are saying that it IS bad. And I wouldn't have recommended a friend to buy the Legend given the considerations that winniechen brought up, if i thought the N1 was the only phone everyone on this planet should use.
so basically my questions are: 1. how's the performance of legend compared to iphone 3gs?. What i meant was, i don't play games so i don't think i need a snapdragon processor(am i right?) BUT i'm concerned about the performance of legend's browser, email, facebook, twitter, music etc. I hate slow performance phone
2. Does legend support push gmail?
3. is the screen better than iphone? how about the size, is it big enough?
4. How's the interface of android 2.1 compared to iphone OS? it's better right?

Just picked up a black set from dreamitcentre. Nice guy and easy to talk to.
I was at Digital Mall earlier and got put off by the guy's attitude and decided to give dreamitcentre a call. Good thing I did. Got a much sweeter deal =)
i'm new to android phones and here's a few basic questions about htc legend:
1. i understand that android os only install apps in the phone memory/ram. wont this cause htc legend to slow down if we install many apps in the ram, especially legend only have 300+mb of ram?
2. i also understand that to install apps in microsd card, we need to root the android phone, but this will void the warranty. question: if in the future when htc releases fixes/firmware updates, can a rooted legend still install the firmware updates?
3. how much is the available ram after booting up legend?

Couldn't agree more. I'd even rather pay slightly higher just because I do not wish to put up to some seller's unpleasant attitude.

I'll attempt to answer you since I also switched over from 3GS.
1. The Legend performance is comparable to iPhone. The Legend, as you may already know, having a 600Mhz processor. The 3GS' processor has similar speed.
2. Yes it does.
3. Personally, yes. The availability of widgets for the Android platform beats the iPhone in this department, though of course, you may achieve the same on a jailbroken iPhone.

do you load the apps to the phone memory or microsd card? will there be any slow down of the phone if u load many apps since there's a limit to the phone ram?
Contented owner of a 3 day old Legend here...have to say its been pretty much smooth sailing since...a worthy upgrade from my previous hero...decent number of improvements mainly to the looks (software / hardware), speed and OS...AMOLED is brilliant nuff said!....only thing is there is its pretty hard to find a casing and screen protector atm...tho there are nice looking pdair ones for sale on ebay...currently fitted with hero screen protector which doesnt fit perfectly...haha....will just have to wait for acessories to arrive then...
Yea, Wifi signal strength is weaker than other phones.
Does anyone have problems with the ringtone volume? My phone's ringtone volume goes soft after a few seconds of ringing..
Seems to be a bug cuz it doesnt happen all the time. Happens probably like once every 10-15 calls. I have the 'Quiet ring on pickup' option disabled btw.

i read somewhere that it's a feature of legend that if u pick up the phone when it rings, the ring tone will soften itself.
Celcom is having a promotion fair at Suria KLCC. HTC Legend with 1 year contract cost RM1318, with 12 months contract of RM50 commitment + RM148 unlimited data plan. Sign in on 16 April to get Legend at RM1168 for the same package. There's another package RM250 commitment but I forgot how much the price to pay for Legend in that package already.

Yes there is such a feature but I have it disabled. Anyway, it's fairly obvious if you listen to the ringtone that the 'softening' is different from the 'quiet on pickup' feature.

I also asked an executive in Maxis this afternoon. He told me Maxis has no plan yet to have Android phone packages, because 'they already have other competitive phones'.

i think Digi's one is cheaper, u only need to pay RM999 for the phone and RM68 for unlimited internet usage, not RM148+...
what about the rate for voice and sms? need to attach a separate voice plan?
no, pay as per use, how much u use, how much u pay, mean RM68+calls/sms usage, if u do not make any call in the month, u only have to pay RM68+5% government tax.

I suspect the RM999 phone price is dependent on your monthly usage. If I'm not mistaken they had a similar promotion with smartphones/berries late last year. So my guess is you have to pay the highest bracket of phone price first and then they rebate you depending on your usage.
quote Customers who sign up for DG Smart Plan can also save up to 50% on our range of subsidised smartphones, comprising BlackBerry Curve 8520, HTC Legend or BlackBerry Bold 9700 for as low as RM549, RM999 and RM1,299 respectively. endquote
i jz wonder, y Berry plan only need to pay RM58 to get all services but DG Smart Plan have to pay more RM10?

Yeah. Getting the Digi Smartplan with HTC Legend for RM999 is a good deal. Looks like it's time for me to upgrade from my SE P1i to the HTC Legend.
same as berry previous promotion, i predict to get Legend@RM999, you will have to take DG150 plan for 24 months contract inclusive of internet unlimited@RM68/month, so lowest commitment per month will be RM228/month for 24 months but of course this is not like iPhone plan where you have to prepay the whole 24 months charges upfront, you will be bill every month.

Does anyone find the Legend's battery life is a lil disappointing? I practically have to charge it daily. I've turned my widget update frequency to every 6 hours (from hourly previously). No significant improvement
And has anyone got any turn-by-turn GPS software on their Legend yet?

Does anyone mind testing their Legend out a bit? I really need some help here...
Call yourself about 5 times and each time, let the ringer ring a while. Try to listen if the volume goes lower on its own...
Would really appreciate it if someone could do that for me.. Thanks.
I have had similar problem. I've had "Quiet on Pickup" option checked by the way.
Ringtone sometimes quiet downs when it is untouched or the volume doesn't go down when pickup.
Urrrggghh!

Hmm. I strongly believe this is a software bug. There are a few other people with the same problem over at XDA forums. Let's hope this gets fixed soon cuz it's really annoying -.- Perhaps the 'quiet on pickup' is faulty...

u can try out the papago m6 as instructed in the forum 'Papago GPS Software for Android' if u can read chinese (http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1215073&st=340&p=33128407&#entry33128407) . some people tried and said its successful but i cant read chinese and am still waiting patiently for Papago to release an english version of it.
I have pressured Papago myself by sending them emails and etc but still no reply coz i just emailed them a while ago. Probably u wanna pressure them urself too. Its very frustrating how come they can release iPhone Papago in englsih but Android's one they only release it in Chinese...argh....
i guess androids users would have to voice out if not they will just not do anything about it? haih...

bro, have you call up the service centre ask about these issues? maybe i will help u too call up tomorrow and check what is the problem actually. will update u once i get the right information.

what you mean by monthly internet unlimited? izit not need to pay extra for the internet usage?unlimited? and what is BIS?
BIS is black berry internet service.. correct me if i'm wrong, and the RM68 did not include call usage. Just only internet. if you make RM20 call this month then total is Rm88
BIS is black berry internet service.. correct me if i'm wrong, and the RM68 did not include call usage. Just only internet. if you make RM20 call this month then total is Rm88
so how about Save Smart? they said 100% rebate of internet usage? not unlimited meh?
The RM 68 plan is applicable for the BB and unlimited internet. If you're using BB you'll subscribe to BIS .. other phones get unlimited internet. The quota is 3gb if not mistaken and internet will be slower after that.
The save smart is when your total phone bill is more than RM 100 you save 25% of the RM 68 and if your total bill is more than RM 200 than the RM68 is waived

oooh, o i see, thanks for explanation! so i thing i will get this package, my monthly call is about rm50, so rm68 + rm50 = rm118 - 25% = rm88.50?
some answers i got from digi for new using porting over to digi for the smartplan with LEGEND!
DIGI : For Switch, you are only allowed to contract the 12 months plan. So the price is RM1399+RM300 (advance payment)+Any Postpaid plan. You only pay upfront for the device +RM300 advance payment. There is no EPP for this. The advance payment will be used to knock off your coming months' bills dependent on usage e.g. if within two month you're billed RM300, it will be knocked off using your advance payment.
since the internet is 68... u can msn instead of sms... assuming that your other part is using phone for internet too... not sure if we can install skype... that would be a killer...
1399 + 300 is the amount to pay? is still cheaper than market price of 1999, whats the point of having a smart phone and not using it for other than calls

not really la, if you think about it. basically... outside checking emails etc... no wifi place... besides, heard that this phone wifi is a bit cacat.
here new calculation...
if buy phone AP or market, and use digi smartplan... then really not worth. basically you save around 500 bucks using the plan... so its basically like buying a new phone + free 3G.

because it doesn't make sense, uf u were to require to take the DGx0 package, then the CALL SMART section is useless already. coz it written NO MINIMUM CALL USAGE, PAY AS YOU USE
well i'm not 100% confirm about that as well, will be going to ask on tomorrow
according to the"Pay per use" Terms should be understanding already. By the way, do you guys like the design of the legend? I myself feel the back cover a bit..... ugly... the two black plastic cover...

So this should be hardware/phone limitation.
I'm curious why u said like RM58 for internet unlimited, cannot be used for tethering. but need DG Smart 68?

Just picked up my Digi Smart Plan HTC Legend from Digi SS2. Signed up for 2 years to get the HTC Legend for RM999 + RM500 Advance Payment. The phone just arrived in the service center in the afternoon. Waited 45 minutes to get served in the busy service center.
First impression of the phone, the Legend is just slightly larger but thinner than my current Sony Ericsson P1i. The Legend is charging, so it's time to backup my contacts from my P1i to transfer over to the Legend.

hey can u guys try ur phone and see pleaseee..... when ppl sms u whether u set ur phone to sound mode or vibration mode, ur phone doesnt vibrate?
is it just my phone or is it a bug in the software thankss....
i need u guys who own htc legend help...
I already tested with my Legend. I always get vibration when I receive SMS. I tried both normal and vibrate-only mode.
I think this is another software bug cuz u're not the only one with this problem. A few people on XDA forums have this problem as well. Perhaps you should wait and see if the next update fixes the problem. If it still doesnt vibrate after update, then maybe u'll hv to RMA. Anyway, don't worry about it cuz we get 2 years warranty with the Legend =D

i email m3asia which is the distributor of papago in malaysia and this is what they say :
"Thank you for your interested. We are sorry, the current Papago! X5 Mobile version that you are selling is only compatible with Windows Mobiles and Android 1.5. However, there will be an updates available which can be installed into mobile/PDA that running Android 2.1 OS. We will announce in on our website when it available."
Dont know how true is that, there will be an update soon? =s However, I replied them saying i thought for Android 2.1 the compatible software is Papago M6 because there is already a taiwanese version for it but its all in chinese and i want an english version but they never replied. I even email Papago Taiwan but they never replied also. Their customer service really a bit lousy la...
Anyway Ndrive and all is based on their own maps while Papago is like Garmin can use the Malfreemaps which is community based and its better because it gets updated faster. You can use google maps what? The only downside of google map is you need to use data constantly to load map and its not so precise as mallfreemaps map tiles, and we doesnt have voice navigation if u dun root ur phone (only u.s. androids have it). And which we cant root our phone till today because Paul at Modaco is still internet-less until he comes back from holiday.
And offline gps applications are always way cooler haha...
If u guys want to try papago M6 pls refer to here http://forum.legendroid.com/applications/p.../?boardseen#new . We already tried on N1 without any trouble and English character also can be use for typing place name even it is Chinese ver.........

wahh.. same lah. got my Legend yesterday after finally bored with Symbian for so many years. Managed to trade in my X6 for 1.3k .. the best I could get.
yeah totally a brand new world. kicked my butts hard for getting the X6 out of GAS. i'm happy with the Legend. The market application is just fantastic.
Boo hoo, i guess will have to wait for the official version.
haha yeah lor i felt there is something missing in my phone without an offline gps application after years of having garmin xt in my trustworthy nokia.
u also go pressure them a bit la...the malaysian papago distributor m3asia.just google it...lol... i just talk to the taiwanese papago today thru msn today...the fellow on the other side said he informed the management about it already...haih but dunno when oni can get it installed for my beloved legend...

I've got offline GPS on my iPhone too. And if you know me personally, you'll know how lost I can be without a GPS
I think we should all spam Papago asking them to release the version for Legend ASAP!
But did you try other apps?
Hmmm, I'm thinking we should get the Legend thread more organize some day. With information and helpful tips available easily for all Legend users. Oh well, maybe when I have time soon and when I'm familiar enough with the Android!
Or someone could start doing it now!

Agree with you about the Market application. Plenty of free apps and games to explore. Today, I downloaded Compass, Google Sky Map, Opera Mini 5 beta and Sudoku.
I wonder if we will ever get Paid Apps in the Market in the future.

so u mean for other telco users, we can only get the sim and phone after porting over to digi? i can accept receiving the phone late, but not sim, since the other telco's sim card might be disabled and yet u dont have digi's sim. then u got no hp at all during the porting period.
payment is after we get the phone & sim or at the moment u apply for porting?

1. for those who got their legend from the digi smartplan, how many years of warranty is given for the phone? i checked with some digi fella at pc fair, and he said only 1 year.
2. ok, i'm currently using a resistive touch screen phone (i type using my finger nails). when i tested the legend, i just can't get used to typing on the compact qwerty keyboard...any tips on how u guys type? do you use the pad of your finger or the tip of your finger?
3. is it just me or is the legend not as smooth as many has claimed?
i going to get a HTC Legend soon but i cant decide whether to get it with DiGi or Singapore. I dont want to join any plan, so if i get from DiGi it will be RM1999 outright, but if i ask my friend help me to buy in SG, it cost RM1700. What you guys think? it is worth to pay RM300 extra say for local warranty only?

guys who owns a Legend. Try this keyboard mod. It takes away the annoying auto add word to dictionary. I changed mine and works flawlessly. Download the low-res one. Removes chinese keyboard for those who are not using it as well as it adds additional mods. No rooting required. It installs as an additional keyboard.
juz got my new legend from pcfair. the amoled screen is fantastic!!! i note that the screen has already got a protector film? does ur legend comes with the protector when u purchased it???
u put ur phone in silent mode is it? silent mode sound also dun have vibrate also dun have.
anyway if ur phone got problem with sound or vibration just go download sound manager it will solve the problem...
Thank you. In the end, I bring back to the shop and done a factory reset. Now, it is working fine.

yes it works. works for both legend n desire. i've tried and verified it both speech to text for texting and web search works. but u should also know that the speech to text is made for american accent so not so accurate for malaysian. lol try it no harm.

Just came back from the digi roadshow, since the phone is subsidized by them, they only offered 1 year warranty from SIS if want to extend another year from Mobile Sure, i'll have to pay additional RM27
If you get from PDAexpert, you pay RM1999 with 2+1 years warranty (2 years from SIS + 1 year from Mobile Sure)

ok, to simplified what he just said.
2 yrs warranty from SiS (so on the second yr, you have to send the phone to SiS, where as you just need to send to digi within the first yr)
this is the official warranty. for his PDAexpert, that additional 1 yr is from PDAexpert aka Mobile Sure

you need to activate the keyboard with the following steps (taken from the website)
Go to Settings > language and keyboard Tick "HTC_IME mod" Press the search key on your phone Long press on the quick search box Select "input method" from the popup list Select "HTC_IME mod" [HTC Sense version] Then on your keyboard tap on the button next to the space (you should see an icon of a mic) The dialog will appear to ask you to "Speak Now"

i feel comfortable with the keyboard now (with predictive text turned off) but I would like the speech-to-text feature. Any option to add just that feature alone?

Yes you can add the Voice Search apk and then get an app like handcent sms. That'd allow you to text using speech but I find it laggy and wasn't very accurate.
I think if you don't write in Chinese it's better if you use the modded keyboard =)

Unfortunately Voice Search didn't work on my Legend. Have you got any luck? I've the 'Force Close' warning. Mind to help?
Not very keen on a separate app though and ahhh yeah I don't write Chinese haha
Will try the modded keyboard r47z posted maybe some time this week. Have you tried that yet?
i tried to login to the merket place, seems i can't go in. keep telling me wifi or no network data connection. but i do have my wifi on and connected to network...
It's fast and smooth. The screen is great though if you want to enjoy the screen to the fullest get a glossy screen protector rather than those anti-fingerprint matte ones.
Wifi is a bit weak and battery life is a bit weaker than I'm used to.

Anyone wants to buy a 9 day old HTC Legend? No scratches... as good as new. Local SIS 2 yr warranty. Bought from dreamitcentre. Reason for sale is bro is offering to help get an N1. PM me your offers please.
the screen is not working well with anti-finger matte screen protector, i.e. not smooth?
Smooth as silk...never lag at all! 3D games also smooth! Most importantly, the phone is juz so handsome! VGA video is also smooth! I love my Legend ever more.
1 problem though, I cant seem to find a good GPS software for android
any idea if screen protectors are out in the market for the legend?....ive been using it without one for about 2 weeks now...im afraid i mite scratch the pretty screen soon...

One thing I haven't try on the Legend is playing games though. Probably is the lack of quality games like what found on the iPhone. Or maybe because the battery life is so bad that I never thought of playing games on it.
I haven't found any good GPS software too. Installed Google Maps with nav but you might as well want to turn the voice guidance off because you can NEVER understand what she says.
FB games on legend is pretty impossible, i tried to load country story in my legend, you can see the loading screen but the fps is just way too low
Many ppl are asking about whether FB games can be played on their mobile...are there any smartphones in he market that allow for smooth Fnb games?....Legend is just fine for me....just hoping for paid apps to be available and also rooting....
Added on April 20, 2010, 5:00 pmI think ive just made a discovery on HTC Legends issue over the fluctuating Wifi signals some ppl have been complaining about. From my tests and observations i found out that the wifi antenna is on the top rubberised part of the phone where the camera lens is. Subsequently, I tried sliding my hand up towards that area and the signal drops 1 or more bars. When held at the bottom its never goes below one. This is at least true for my phone, maybe others can try it out and testify my claim and we could possibly solve this query.
Cheers.

i think some of the FB cafe is very heavy for this day smartphone, like FB cafe world play at pentium 4 2.8Ghz almost 60% CPU usage . for me smartphone just for mobile web, games, GPS and ofcos phone
I have been trying to find out the SAR value of the Legend but can't find it in the HTC website. Can someone help check the specifications that came along with the phone and share this info? Thx
To al HTC legend user, i hav 1 question abt the battery life, in ur normal day use, how frequent do you charge ur phone? (Daily, 2days or 3days)
I was just about to b*tch about this (again! ). I'm charging it EVERYDAY since I got it.
I've got News, Weather and Friend Stream widgets running on the background. I made a couple of phone calls and sent/received like 10-20 SMSes a day. The phone is fully charged in the morning and by evening, it's near dead. I'm charging it as I'm writing this now.
i bought my legend yesterday and it's my first Android phone. So here's a mini review from an iphone fanboy
design Legend feels solid & well built, it's really nice to hold although kinda heavy for its size. The aluminum body is awesome, it makes the phone look expensive the trackball works like a charm and it's really responsive.
Android 2.1 At first i didn't like it cause it felt a bit too complicated compared to the iphone OS. BUT then after playing with it for a day, i'm starting to get the hang of it. The phone can get a bit slow when there's a lot of applications running at the same time but that can be solved easily by using free app such as Task Killer
Performance advantages -the phone is fast, there's no need to buy HTC Desire if you just gonna use it for email, facebook, texting, surfing etc. -Browsing the web is really smooth and some websites load even faster than iphone 3gs. My advice is turn off the flash support if you don't need it. -email support is fantastic, gmail messages/appointments are instantly pushed to your phone. -the android facebook app is much faster then its iphone counterpart although it lacks the chat support -the phone HSDPA connection is SUPER fast, much2 better than the iphone -GPS lock takes less than 10s
disadvantage -wifi is a bit weak but it doesn't affect my browsing speed -iphone OS > Android 2.1 in my opinion
battery Battery life SUCKS..if you used the phone heavily i think you can only get Max 8-9hrs/fullcharge
overall 8.5/10

Hmm, areas without 3g will not get any reception at all if set to WCDMA only?
This is probably the "smartest" phone I ever used seconded by SE P1i, battery life indeed is a bit weak as a daily charge is needed but I think this applies to most smart phones now. Just have to disable the 3g/wifi whenever not in use if possible, kill the apps like 'Camera'.
Before consulting the forums, I actually thought I was experiencing a hardware malfunction/defect. I went back to the seller in Digital Mall Sect 14 and tried to show him my 'ring volume' problem. After countless times of calling my phone with the seller's phone, the problem still did not occur. Really pissed me off cuz I drove all the way there for nothing.
Now everything kinda makes sense. Naturally, a place like Digital Mall would have pretty good 3G reception(unlike my house), and hence my phone (which was on 'WCDMA & GSM auto' mode) would be receiving 3G signals and therefore causing it to NOT have the ring volume problem.
AFAIK, this is cause all 3G capable phones are programmed to first look for 3G reception first and use GSM only in the absence of the former.
I guess I'll have to wait til a new update rolls out since I'm not always in places that has a 3G signals...

Yes, a lot of people are complaining about battery life even on xda-developers site. But a higher capacity battery may come out soon, I hope.
My battery runs out towards the end of the day as well.....with some internet usage and 5-6 calls, same amount of smses....didnt expect much in terms of battery life considering its a smartphone...
BTW when im connected to mobile internet its states either H or G on the status bar?.....is either one of these 3G?....i have never gotten an actual 3G wording stated on my status bar...I..f im not on 3G can someone tell me how to set it up?
go to settings, change your mobile internet to use 2G, only change to 3G when u need to download stuff using mobile internet, if not 2G is more then enough to read emails, surf net.

hi bro how long been u waiting to get the legend? still thinking to get it by using this plan
was promised by the dealer that will get the stock this week, but according to latest news....no promised date....
Got mine in Penang, hehe. So far so good. Took the 24months contract. Only thing is 500 payup front on top of the 999. The 500 will be used to offset the bill which is not too bad afterall.
Other than that not much complaint. Guess Legend is selling good with this plan.
Is it me only or others also have the Legend without the blue (BT) light & GPS light??? the only light is the charging indicator? Really not used to Legend not having the BT blue indicator

Could it be the area and at that particular time 3G services wasnt available? Sometime same area will have 3G sometimes not.. puzzling isnt it? Malaysia internet line is very unstable at times.
does anyone have a problem with their alarm application? My alarm doesn't seem to work any solutions?
I think you might have killed the Clock app that is suppose to run in the background. If you have set an alarm, you should be able to see a clock icon in the status bar.

Clearance for the switch? Do u mean u just switch from other telco?
U subscribed to 12mths or 24mths contract? I'm curious, bcoz some ppl said switch from other telco only eligible for 12mths bcoz of MCMC ruling. But that day I asked at Mid Valley DIGI service counter, they said no such thing.

i'm switching from maxis as well and took up 24 months. i repeatedly ask the dealer whether it is possible for 24 months and he says no issues.
since msiathot managed to get the phone almost immediately, i'm thinking whether it is possible to transfer the order from my dealer to digi retail store in ss2....anyone has any idea whether this is possible? i only paid the adv payment of rm500+rm30 for my supp line

Would prefer to view the comment from user after used for Legend... Heard a lot of downside on this phone... battery, wifi..
I still think depend on usage for battery. If reception is weak then will consume more battery too. WIfi as such also will eat up ur battery. Go techradar.com to get some review. As for me, for this price Legend is a good buy. For RM999 what else can we ask for more for a PDA fone?

I am new to android and just get the legend from digi. i need a help on app installation. i do the .apk file installation through htcsync on pc. for example, the file size is 10 mb, the htcsync copy the file to phone for installation. so where can I find the installer that copied to phone as double up the storage usage on internal memory. hope some one can help me in this. or there are other methods to do the file installation?
i'm switching from maxis as well and took up 24 months. i repeatedly ask the dealer whether it is possible for 24 months and he says no issues.
since msiathot managed to get the phone almost immediately, i'm thinking whether it is possible to transfer the order from my dealer to digi retail store in ss2....anyone has any idea whether this is possible? i only paid the adv payment of rm500+rm30 for my supp line
Added on April 22, 2010, 3:49 pm
do u have the ss2 retail store phone number? wanna call up to check whether got stock or not....
No phone number of DiGi SS2 and sadly the number is not available either at DiGi's website. I know it closes at 5.30 as I was there at about 5.
It is jam packed with people collecting the near obsolete iPhone .
I reckon DiGi SS2 still has stocks of Legend. RM999 for a Legend is a steal and I believe it will change the whole landscape of contract phone deals in Malaysia like our counterparts in Singapore, the US and elsewhere have enjoyed for years.
An affordable smartphone and an equally attractive data package is a win-win proposition between the telco and the subscriber. Afterall, what's the point of having a smartphone without a data plan.
I went to the DiGi branch at SS2 yesterday evening (about 5pm) and collected the Legend this morning (before 11am) after I got the clearance for the switch. Very fast and efficient.

yuh bro, since 2 of yoy got your HTC Legend from DiGi, is the HTC Legend 2 years warranty from SiS? or is it 1 year? cause was PM-ed by a guy working in DiGi Specialist store @ SoGo KL, he claims that HTC Legend from DiGi only have 1 year warranty =/

yup, it is 1 year warranty only. but i havent try to register the phone at www.sis.com.my. maybe can get 2 years? LOL...
so did you switch over to DiGi from other Telcos? does the progress easy and smooth?
it sounds weird to have 1 year warranty only, says like if I sign for 24 months contract, and my phone mati on 13th months, means if I dont use any smartphone anymore, I'll have to pay RM68 for nothing?
warranty is 2 years, since this phone comes from SIS. there's a SIS sticker on the box, and in the phone as well. hopefully a mod can move all the digi discussions to the digi-legend thread
coming back to legend, and being a first time android user, all i can say is that i'm loving it . since there isn't any thread listing recommended free android apps for all android phones in general, here is something for noobies like myself to start with:
ASTRO file manager (some prefer EStrongs file explorer) - file manager APNdroid - let's you toggle your 3G on/off Astrid - todo/reminder app AK Notepad - something like a sticky note Barcode scanner - scan barcodes...for fun Batterylife - monitor your battery life (with % left) ColorDict - offline dictionary Compass - a digital compass...for fun Divi Clock - a small android clock widget (even comes in 1x1 size) Opera Mini beta 5 - alternative browser to the stock android browser (fast but does not support multitouch) racing thunder lite - a racing game using your phone's accelerometer to show off to your friends silent boot - if you are using HTC, this can turn off the loud startup sound stats - monitor your data usage (3G, sms, etc.) sticky note - a sticky note widget uninstaller - lists all the apps you have downloaded and choose which to uninstall seePU - system monitoring utility (i find this app draining my battery though)
edit: wow, it seems that all my posts are invisible to you guys. ok, happy paying more money to get more years of warranty..when it is something you already have.

battery usage, i manage to last the battery up to now 35 hours(still left 26%) by setting the screen power to the lowest, and always kill the apps that not in used....with the average of 15min of call, and 20min of games daily...15min of wifi..will reupdate again till the battery is dead
Wifi signal, is slightly weaker compare to the htc touch3g

1. Disable 'haptic feedback' in settings. Should be under 'Sounds and Display'. 2. Try resetting your router. See if that helps. Happens to me once in a while but it's not the phone, it's the router cuz it happens to laptops too once in a while. 3. No way of doing this as far as I know. 4. This option is also in the 'Sounds and Display' menu. Change the screen timeout to the desired time.

alredi disabled haptic feedback. when i type sms, i can still feel the slight vibration. is it related to keyboard settings?

ok, will test this and see....does htc legend supports wpa/wpa2?
Yes there is such a feature but I have it disabled. Anyway, it's fairly obvious if you listen to the ringtone that the 'softening' is different from the 'quiet on pickup' feature.
have u found a solution to this? previously my phone doesnt have this problem but recently its having this problem. How ar????

it's in the keyboard Settings > Language & keyboard > Text settings

there's a bug with the ringing tone. There's a workaround on it, you have to set your mobile network to WCDMA only. You can do this by going to Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile network > Network Mode. This may use bit more batteries but it solves the problem. I think HTC is aware of this and on going solution is on its way.

like seriously, did u even read the manual?
btw it can do more than just setting the ringtone. it can trim it as to your liking. This is page 170 of the manual.
Setting a song as ringtone You can select a song from the Music application’s Library and set it as your phone’s ringtone or a ringtone for a certain contact.
1. Press HOME, tap , and then tap Music. 2. Tap at the bottom-left corner of the screen to go to the Library. 3. In the Library, select the song that you want to use as ringtone and then play it back. 4. On the Playback screen, press MENU and then tap Set as ringtone. 5. In the Set as ringtone options menu, tap Phone ringtone or Contact ringtone or Trim the ringtone.

Hi, I just received my new HTC Legend with signing DIGI smart plan. It is very weird that HTC Legend presents incoming call as "unknown" instead of phone number or contact name from my phonebook. Once I clicked the "unknown" it will go through "USSD Code running" after that will show me "unknown application". Need advice, thanks.
Still I wish sms ringtone=sms ringtone and notifications=notifications
because sms ringtone= loud and and at least 5 secs long notifications is short , 1 secs will do
and thanks!!

i need some help with all the android gurus here. how do i disable the auto data transfer on my legend? i don't have a data plan, and i do notice that whenever i opened some apps with ads on them, i can see 2 arrows on the phone signal bar there flashing. that's data being transfer right?
i would like to disable that, and at the same time my phone still able to make and receive calls.

Use Handcent SMS to set the the ringtone. Received and notification can be different tone. Zedge is another cool mp3 ringtone app which can be used to change the ringtones.
Thanks for the link. Do we have to uninstall the old one or will this install over the previous version?
usually, it'll just replace to the current one.. So, no need to uninstall bro...

Do you turn off your Mobile Network at Wireless control already?? If not then, unclick the box for Mobile Network because it'll drain up your credit without you realize about it..

I tried the apk file frm the xda link but it didnt install over the old version. Instead, i had two maps apps on my list. Uninstalled the new one to avoid confusion since i dont reqlly use maps anyway.
Im having an issue with my notifications for emails....i recently dont receive any notification tone, vibratin or update on the status bar for incoming mail even with all the options to allow for it....insead it will just turnup as unread mails when i open the mail....anybody knows the solution for this?.....i find it weird as just a few days ago it was all running normally...
a question to check how much rom leave to let us install app on legend? as i read on gsmarena say only leave 120mb free to install app on HTC Desire. legend also have 512mb rom same as desire so mean also leave 120mb too?
Yes, you can't... yet. I think this require the device to be rooted first. As of now, Legend is not root-able yet.
On a side now, if we can get someone to organize (or probably open a new one) the thread with useful information, i.e. links, tips, etc. on the first post it'll be great. Any volunteer?

Does any1 know where can I get additional battery for Legend? Don't want unbrand d, and similar brand to Novacell,
because ori battery damn expensive, unbrand 1 is worry of quality.
As for me, i will just get a spare charger. These days the portable charger is pretty handy. Much better than getting spare bat. Troublesome to change too.

Digi plan with HTC Legend is the cheapest. No hidden cost. Value for money package. Only thing is to pay upfront of RM500 for the plan, which is that bad as the 500 is to offset our bills.

i'm not keen to sign up DiGi plan as I not a frequent call and data plan user, My working place and house is WiFi ready. Thats why looks for Non Contract package. Any one get lower than that by the way? RM1999? How about the screen protector? did they gift to you?
