few years ago i was watching my little nephew playing gta san andreas. there he goes.. walking, running, swimming, riding, driving, flying around beating ppl, hi-jacking cars/bikes, committing suicide n every sort of thing he can think of. hes not doing any missions. just playing the game feebly doing nothing.but he was very very happy doing it. he laughs alot. for him its very fun.
now seeing at my self playing videogames, i dont have that kind of feeling, that joy. most of the time im feeling angry, aggravated.. tormented. actually i got a lot but cant really express about what bothers me in videogaming. but nothing really serious about it. only my mind gets tired a little quicker these days. cant play as long as i used to..

Been there, done that..I even felt asleep doing the same thing like your nephew especially during Prototype mission..I even feel like quiting playing games..But instead ends up didn't play my ps3 for 2 months bcoz of my heavy workload.. Normal, when you haven't touch your consoles for months then you will miss it..don't worry to much..

yup. its a phase. Why don't u reflect on asking urself what made u happy playing games in the first place? U cud start by going back to the ones before that you first started playing. That's what I do with King of Fighters 98, and I have never stopped playing until now. How old is that game again?

this is called game fatigue, basically you've played too much in your early days - Overdosed! that's why... do things must do it in moderate way, anything excessing will shorten the lifespan! we must enjoy things we like, like drinking wine, small sip+slow... if we do it like taking shots, sure die very fast!

Newer games are more on presentation and hypes, get back to pure gameplay greatness once in a while to keep your gaming appetite

Quitting videogames? I've thought about that too. With married life and all, you know, sometimes gaming takes 2nd place. But I'm slowly rediscovering the joy in playing games. Just purchased a Slim PS3 last Dec and I bought a slim PS2 just for re-playing God of War I & 2 What I'm trying to say is, don't rush trying to take down all the games you see in front of you. Pace yourself and take your own sweet time finishing it one by one. That way, you will appreciate your games even more and will definitely keep that momentum going

There are many other things One can do, in order to have fun/entertainment, other than gaming.
Movies, Music, Books (magazines, manga, novels, biography, instructions, manual, majalah main budak), Models, outdoor activities, sports, etc...
why not considering some of these, rather than always stuck in the virtual world?
social with real ppl, rather than just online society.

i had been playing games since nintendo 8-bit console (around 1990), my advice: try doing somethings else for some time, keep the consoles temporary in somewhere not easy to access. after sometimes, if you feel like want to play games again, take it out and play it, you will feel the different.

Quitting gaming has been on my head since +/- graduating from university actually. What used to be blissful (or reckless) gaming, regardless of time, cost or other people's opinion of gaming (or yourself), I now find myself questioning why I still game. I've been a lifetime gamer, starting from arcades, to PCs, going to other people's houses, eventually getting my own consoles. Yet the magic/passion was lost after sometime. You wonder if you're doing something wrong, or playing the wrong games. I try going back to those same games I used to obsess over, but it didn't do anything. Then I found it; there's no one to share it with.
Not having a console didn't stop me from playing before, because I had a friend beside me. Having to play nothing but the exact 3 games for a year didn't matter, because my siblings were also gamers. Talking about Street Fighter felt awesome, because there was someone to talk to. Now all my siblings and friends have moved on, while I remain. Gaming starts becoming tedious, like I'm supposed to keep playing as if it's a 2nd job. Gaming used to be entertainment for me, now it feels like a form of chore. And I hate talking about my supposed passion like this.
Some people used to ask me what was it about gaming that I like so much. I didn't answer them directly, just that I'm absolutely crazy about it. I used to think having friends was not that important, as long as I have my games. Guess I don't think so anymore.

Oh don't worry, we all have our own set of problems. Your thread actually happens to be one I've always thought of expressing. Some people probably treated gaming as a form of escapism, where they can forget life's difficulties (probably talking about myself here). If you start wondering whether you should quit gaming, maybe you DO have a valid argument to do so. As for me, I still enjoy talking about it to friends, in a kind of "remember when" story. I'm still fascinated by tech and trends in the videogame industry. Heck, I still thrown in game soundtracks (Yoko Shimomura FTW!) and get lost in the moment. It's just that I don't feel strongly about it as I did then (kind of like falling out of love? )So don't feel too sorry about my current state.

When I am in good mood for collecting video games I buy a lot (over buy). When I am out of the mood, I will slow down on buying and probably sell some of them. Late last night has this urge to kill zombies so poped in Deadrising and kill zombies for an hour before sleep. satisfaction I never thought of quitting video gaming, since its not something bad. Just slow down when overdosed.

Hmm, i have the same thinking sometimes. But i am an addict now. Even if i don't feel like it, I will still put in at least one hour of gaming and then call it a day. if i have the mood, i will play 4 -5 hrs daily. Sometimes, i don't even log in due to commitment in worklife and personal life and married life. BUT, gaming is a part of my life and has been since school time. It is a part that give me lots of nice memories. Which is why i love to play old school games, playing FFVII again and again for the umpteenth time, buying Tie Fighter PC and Full Throttle PC from eBay just to relive the moments, playing Dune 2000 on PC again, playing KOF94 - 2003 just to relive the story for each teams again etc etc. So, yeh, my take

But i agree on 1 thing.we gamers can't take a game too seriously n try to complete all d achievement or u'll bcome really tired of it.juz enjoy with d game n storyline.n take a break sometimes. Deep in my heart, something telling me dat i wont quit gaming.i live with it 4 more than 15 years.yeah, juz enjoy it.

As for myself, i never really quit gaming but i do take a breather for a while. One thing I agree here is the passion for gaming might not burning as hot as it were before.
But that's not stopping me from buying games, there's a few PS3 exclusives that i have not even start yet (Valkyria, Folklore etc). Was really excited when FFXIII arrived but then played a few hours then stop... there's no force pulling me back, nothing to look forward to (not as much as dragon age & mass effect 2 did)... Now trying to get myself into playing Paintball.. well I can only hope God of War will pull me back.. give me back that feeling dammit !!!

QUOTE(lazaruz_01 @ Mar 11 2010, 05:52 PM) looks like ur back in touch with the joy of gaming.. (probably forgot to eat too ) yeah... i forgot to eat too... and i lost 2kg just by playing games over the weekend... dats like a week of training in the biggest loser asia... QUOTE(Arool @ Mar 11 2010, 07:58 PM) Hmm,me too have same symptom.. .no appetite to finish d game dat i played.last year i only finished dmc4 n gowc.damn,i'm not even 30 yet . But i agree on 1 thing.we gamers can't take a game too seriously n try to complete all d achievement or u'll bcome really tired of it.juz enjoy with d game n storyline.n take a break sometimes. Deep in my heart, something telling me dat i wont quit gaming.i live with it 4 more than 15 years.yeah, juz enjoy it. i agree also... i don't ever tried to complete all the trophy/achievements... i just play for the storyline coz its just like reading books or watching movies... the good titles will make u stick to it till the end... doesnt matter if its games, movies or books...
