QUOTE(Maestrol @ Jul 5 2010, 08:31 PM) Update 5/7/2010 Nice. You finally got your speed. This morning when I woke up, I checked the DSL status of my new line, it's upgraded to 5119kbps... cool. Then I did a speedtest at speedtest.net, ~1200kbps... Strange, I call the Streamyx Installer again, he said oooo let me check..... Fine... Then, in the afternoon, I checked again.... still DSL status shows 5119kbps.. but same speedtest result... then I remembered I configured QOS on my tomato based WRT54GL router before.....oh.... it's my BAD. Once I reconfigured it correctly, BOOM.............4MB SPEED HERE I COME! Then I called the Streamyx Installer to thank him Now, the next thing to do is to terminate my old wrongly capped 5mb telephone line and old streamyx account. Then I'll ask my Electrician to redo the wiring for me. So much stuff to do huh? |

I like Fiber Optic because of it's DL & UL speed which is similar.
Good for games, torrenting, uploading and other related things. 512Kbps upload speed is just too damn slow these days. 1Mbps package here with 1.8Mbps cap. |

QUOTE(barca96 @ Jul 27 2010, 12:44 PM) Let say if you're torrenting, and seeding the file you've just finished downloading, the slow upload will hamper your surfing speed. Making it laggy. But if you know how to set your connections, then you can throw the problems out. But othet than that, no real worries. Nowadays, upload is getting more future-proof. So I think it's better to have higher uploading speed and lower pings. |

QUOTE(barca96 @ Jul 28 2010, 12:57 PM) thanks for the explanation. Since you're seeding the torrent, sometimes, a peer or two will connect you and you'll upload some bandwidth for them. didnt understand 100% but at least i got something out of it. how come the surfing speed will be slow when the torrent has finished downloading? and i thought surfing the net is download not upload. But if you stop the whole thing, then nothing is affected. More upload bandwidth given = Less download bandwidth (roughly) |

QUOTE(ayil @ Jul 28 2010, 09:01 PM) i prefer bbuster deal then unifi. Did TM already taken off the cap limits?for unifi = limited. after reach 120gb then ur net will be super slow. bbuster deal nvr fails me, dl more than 100 full HD movies still stable untill now. cheers~ If not, it's a no brainer decision, Unifi is still the best bet if you plan to get 4Mbps ADSL. Pings are far lower and interruptions are less. Fiber Optics is the future. With copper, attenuations and margins will be their main drawbacks, if the values are not right, then you might not get your 4Mbps or even 2Mbps. Even if you do, there's a bit possibility your experience won't be smooth. Also, not to forget, with 5Mbps Unifi, you might be capped until 10Mbps. So don't be surprised if your download speed can reach up to 1MB/sec. As for 4Mbps, 6Mbps is the most you can get (If lucky) QUOTE(barca96 @ Jul 28 2010, 09:05 PM) that's what i thought as well but according to chyan, upload is kinda important. Yeah. If you really wanted to get it now. 4Mbps is a good choice. All you need to know now is your copper line connection. so that's why im still 50/50. i still have time to think as unifi hasn't reached my place yet. but for just surfing and downloading, uploading shouldnt matter much right? and i dont play online games... You can post your SNR margin & attenuations here to see if you're line is suitable for 4Mbps. |

QUOTE(barca96 @ Jul 29 2010, 12:39 AM) Nope. From my understanding, the cap has not been applied. I guess. Got confused just now when some of you said 180GB capping is incurred. Actually now that i have learned more about unifi( thanks to you chyan also), i would rather wait for unifi. However I dont there is no news when my area will get unifi. It's kinda weird really since the server is in Sri Kembangan and I just live 5km max away from there. How and where do I get my SNR margin & attenuations? Many thanks in advance p.s. is that Jessica from SNSD on your avatar? You type in 192.168.1.1 (LAN Router) & Check the main page for both. Yes. That's Jessica. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

Hey guys. My housing developer didn't pay for the telephone lines.
I should contact them to install it right? if it's done, could I get streamyx? If I'm not mistaken, newer lines are using fibre optics nowadays. |
