Came across this 16.4' mid-level gaming laptop at digital mall SS14 today ^___^

According to the screen, its called Sony Vaio VPC117HG. I think it is kind of new XD [i7 with GT330M]
Attached Image Attached Image

Well, it seems quite some people are going for 15- 16' range laptops. Why not start a topic and let the SIFUs here decide which 1 is deemed the best ^^ (Due to my lack of knowledge, I may be missing out many other formidable laptops so you could suggest them if you want XD) I feel the M15x is kind of out of the league so I din't include it (People with higher budgets most probably choose the M15x hehe).

So:

Also, it seems that people who are aiming for these laptops usually have a budget range of below Rm5k. 1 more thing worth mentioning is that if you want to extend warranty of these gaming laptops to 3 years, it will definitely surpass the RM 5k mark T_____T Unless you choose the i5 variants of the XPS Studio 16 (Priced at RM 4,199, 4,599 before warranty extension), which aren't that bad either ^^

So guys, what say you? ^^

Yahor... how could I have 4gotten about ASUS. No offence to ASUS fans ^^
But I don't have their latest brochures and I find their websites are not that easy to navigate @___@ It would be nice if you guys could share the specs and price of these laptops, I'm interested XD XD

100% agree with you ^^ I can't see why the Vaio is so expensive, the specs are not really extraordinary and even if you are paying more for reliability, it is still way too expensive O____O
Well, I've got to stop dreaming le since can't afford any of these two XD XD

True true, feel free to add in the specs and price of the S57 (I have no idea how) XD

Extremely different from what we see in the brochures >___< Now I change my rule to earn many many money until I can deem Alienware as cheap (in terms of costs) hahaha XD Well, its good to have an aim la ^^

Yaya, the Asus N81Vp was initially the laptop I was aiming for. It has the best mobility and the punch among all 14.1' laptops, there wasn't much competition anyway, the only rival I could think of is from Sony. Very good job by ASUS in introducing 14 inch gaming laptop into the niche ^___^
It is sad that it doesn't come with the i core processors (at the moment I think) @____@, and also it may have a problem of heat dissipation due to its smaller size T____T If not I would've bought it instead of an 15.6' T____T
Anyway, ASUS did a very good job, cheers!

N82 is the successor of N81? O____O

Wah.... don't make me regret buying a 15.6' laptop ah hahaha XD XD
Me too, I always believe 14.1 inch laptops are the best in terms of balance for power and mobility ^^
M11x may have a starting price of RM 3,499 (If I remembered correctly), but after some slight customization and warranty extension to 3 years.. The price can reach 5K also, which is almost the same price as these 15- 16' monsters hahaha XD
The M11x may seemed expensive because it is much smaller.... but an inner part of me is pushing me to go for it hahaha ^____^
Applause for Alienware!! I've seen the M15x and M17x (finally T____T) and I am deeply impressed... haven got the chance to see the M11x though ^^ eager!

Wah.... technology advancement nowadays are so horribly rapid! I haven't got my new laptop but I've already felt that it is outdated liao hahaha XD
Agreed, the cooling system would be the most crucial part for something that small with that much power. Well, if the M11x can make it, so could others ^^

Yalo.... seems like recently its very common to find GPUs in a majority of laptops already.... Its good for improving IT technology but it is sad (or maybe I'm jealous) when I see people using high- end gaming laptops ONLY to surf internet (some people merely buy M11x because of the looks and use it for net surfing... very very very very envy arrrrr T____T) Exchange laptops with me, I will put it to "better" use!! hahaha

Eh???? The DV6 is so (relatively) cheap only?! The processor seems promising but the GPU I think it has the poorest graphic card among all the rivals @____@ Pity.... I like HP's laptop designs very much T_____T

Please excuse me noobishness....
Is 8x Celsius degrees normal for a gaming laptop? Seems like very hot lo, can cook egg le XD XD
Perhaps because my old M100 has a lower-end GPU and processor so the temperature never exceeds 70 C even when gaming O_____O

it's sort of expected to be hot...

mid-end GPU + 35W CPU is definitely a formula for heat...

i was expecting 9xC on the GPU during load and probably 8xC on the CPU... but hey, it's on par with my old laptop with T7100 and 8600M GS (also 14" - 7xC for CPU and 8xC on GPU)

so it goes to show the cooling that Asus has done in the laptop, even though they are made with better technology...

the downside of the laptop is, it's heavier than most 14" in the market, probably due to the increased mass of the heatsink/heatpipes used...

But I voted for Toshiba too ^^
Neh, I won't regret (it was a tough decision to make initially) since I cannot afford the core i7 XPS 16 anyway T___T and I just love Harman/Kardon speakers. Additionally, Toshiba and I got bond liao hahaha! ^_____^ I am a Toshiba user (ranging from light bulbs to washing machine XD XD) and I know that they're items are very reliable, which is why I chose Toshiba over the tempting XPS 16 ^^.

haha, brand maa.. advertisement also A LOT. need to pay for that also. if talking about reliability, theres a lot of brand out there that is reliable, if talking about design, vaio is among the nice design. no need dream, buy something better n cheap. save money, can buy another thing(thats my way).

I've just surfed ASUS website. It seems that there are 3 variants of Asus N61 (16 inch): The N61ja, N61jv and N61jq
It I remembered correctly, the a and v models uses core i5/ i3 processors and NVIDIA GT325M whereas the q variant uses i7 and ATI 5730!!! All 3 support USB 3.0... Damn cool! Any idea what are the prices of all 3 variants? Ya, it is quite possible that they are the best for 5k budget XD XD

Aiya, why you keep saying I'm regretting? Haha XD XD
I have to admit the ASUS N61J has very good specs and it ASUS was shown to be the most reliable brand in the survey conducted by SquareTrade some time ago.. But I think it is too big and heavy for a student like me who travels a lot, and I don't really like the looks hehe!
BMWs, Merz, Subaru etc. all come with Harman/ Kardon speakers 1 U know ^^

Buy the laptop you like the most, that's the most important thing ^^

Wah.... this laptop will pawn the M11x ar! ^____^
RM 3,999 only? Very cheap neh.... where's the catch? O____O Usually it would be more expensive to fit so much technology into a smaller sized laptop O___O A very good job to ASUS [Standing ovation] ^^
But the N82Jv is a rather new laptop right? Dunno when only can get after ordering now? O____O
Can't wait for the reviews on N61, N82 and F60 ^_____^

The period between the release date and the time you get your laptop can be very long indeed T____T Yup, USB 3.0. Most ASUS and HP have Altec Lansing speakers ^^
Anyone has any extra details on the N82J? [very curious] *___________________*

if u ask me, it's not as attractive as N81Vp...

C2D T9600 vs i5-520M
N81Vp wins on both clock speed and cache (capacity and latency)

320GB 7200rpm vs 640GB 5400rpm
each have it's own strength (performance vs capacity), but i prefer performance instead... 7200rpm 2.5" HDD are not that cheap...

HD4670 vs GT 335M
sure GT 335M maybe better than HD4670, but dun forget when N81Vp was launched, most 16" laptops in the market were still using either HD3670 or GT 130M...

imho, the spec of N82Jv is decent, but lost the biggest selling pt of the whole N80 series: being a 16" killer (T9400 + 9650M GT for N80Vn, T9600 + HD4670 for N81Vp)

i was expecting sth like HD5650 or GTS 350M and i7-600M on N82J... sad.gif

Yup, they based on Singapore, but they also got in Malaysia iinm. They also got service center in here if problem occur for the Sager notebook. Asus wise, it got 2 years global warranty, so just head to HighPoint as usual.

No USB 3.0, but performance wise, one of the high-end notebook smile.gif

2.7Kg? Quoted from brochures?
After looking at quite a number of brochures I would say that most facts are not very "true" (Just like KFC's food advertisements that always look so big but in fact are "microscopic" haha)... But companies are smart, they won't lie to you, so they would write something like "starting from 2.7kg"
The Qosmio F60- BD531 is heavier than 2.7kg ^^ The 2.7kg is for the i3 1 >___<

Well, even if the Vostro 3700 weights merely a 2.7kg, its vast dimensions may still be a problem for portability I think (I am not particularly fond of huge laptops haha, no offence to people who love dekstop replacements XD XD)

i believe Vostro 3700 2.9KG should be quite light for a 17' laptop coz sxps16 also more or less around that weight (we r talking about 15.6' screen, not 16' yet)

Yaya, agreed! One 15.6' and one 11.6' would do just fine hehehe! XD

Yup, some shop in lowyat plaza are already displaying M11x apart from the usual M15x. Weighing at approximately 2.0kg, it has almost the same weight as most 13'- 14' laptops XD But who cares, its an Alienware hahaha!!
It'll be cool to be able to own 1 ^^

What's your say after "feeling" the M11x? ^^
There was a time when I was having a hard time choosing a M11x or a 15.6' multimedia laptop hahaha.... its that attractive! rclxms.gif

M11x < ______ < M15x < M17x

I've calculated that there is a higher tendency for them to make an M13x hahaha XD XD
But I would prefer a 14' Alienware though, the M15x is a little bit too heavy for my taste while a 13.3' one is still a little bit too small (but acceptable la)hehe
