Are you planning to go overseas or staying locally?I would recommend you to go for Matrix since you say your from an average family. Not only does matrix not cost you much, they will also give you money during your two semesters there. It's shorter, you get money and as far as I know matriculation students are given priority when applying for IPTA compared to STPM students XD When I was in Matrix in 2008/2009 they provided us with a RM1250 elaun per semester ^^ that's enough money for you to survive an average life in matrix XD and even if you decide to go overseas over the years matrix has been gaining recognition so you can also use it to apply overseas =)
Even some good universities like Monash Accept Malaysian Matriculation Nowadays. http://www.monash.edu.au/study/internation...s-database.html According to this database of theirs you need a CGPA 3.33 to get into their Mechatronics Engineering program =) |

But don't you think your statement on " Form 6 is for poor ppl " is a little offensive ?Plus , there's also students who go form 6 because they chose it themselves. Not really due to their financial background. Anyhow to TS , Do Matrix if you're sure that you will be staying in Malaysia because Matrix is only recognized in Malaysia. If you plan to go to NUS/NTU or maybe further studies in other countries STPM will be your choice. Choose wisely though because Matrix and STPM differs. |

A little offensive? Well then form 6 is for those who cannot afford college or private inst..
If u have the money to go college and get a course of your choice compared to form 6 Im sure everyone will be going to college. Its the people who cant afford that gets stuck in form 6 not knowing their future.. Its not their fault. Its just that rich people get to choose. I myself gone through form 6 |

matriculation will save ur time studying as the programme only required 1 year and for mechatronics, i suggest u try go for USM, UIAM or Monash. all 3 universities have their own pre-u programme. if im not mistaken, only mechatronics offered at all 3 universities accredited as 'mechatronics engineering'...

Ya they go form 6 hoping they can enter good course and get a good uni. THey struggle for STPM and then apply for their course of choice praying they will get it. WHile those in matriculation get the priority and the rich ppl from college already studying the course of their choice.

Actually everything depends on the student themselves , they do well then they wouldn't have much problem going further.
However , Matrix is much easier to enter into IPTA. |

If do well doesnt gurantee u a place. You only have much higher chance while those not going to form 6 doesnt have to put in so much effort as u do.
There are people with 4As in stpm not getting a medic couse they apply for. WHat u expec them to do later? Appeal and pray again? |

matrix is a big oppurtunity AND a BIG risk. you can finish matriculation with a chance to enter engineering course, or get 'lelong' to other course.
My advice, if u enter matrix, be really focus on your study. Unless you get good marks, chance for entering your course of choice will be low. |

Well mostly Australian unis recognize matrics not all but a considerable number.I tried asking a lot of Australian Uni representative during a uni fair at IDP before when I was doing matrics (before I decided it was not for me and quited ^^").It's not a problem using matrics to enter courses like engineering, business, computing and such in Australia but you won't be getting into programs like pharmacy,MBBS,dentistry and such with matrics.
Oh yeah I'm not sure about other unis in the UK but I have a friend who did his matric in Kolej Matrikulasi Kedah and is now doing a Bsc in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering in University of Glamorgan. Not one of those impressive unis but he's in UK anyway ^^ |

QUOTE(vick5821 @ Mar 3 2010, 10:28 PM) nah no scholarship, he is there as a full paying international student.Weirdly for him he did not get accepted for IPTA even though he got a 4.0 in Matric and he also represented his college for the inter-matriculation sports festival ^^" He got some bad luck there and he's Malay too ^^" I wonder what courses he put as his choices.Since he did not get into IPTA his dad decided to send him to UK to study,he's not rich just an average guy but can still afford to go to UK since his parents has been saving for his education since he was young. |

Now now, you are generalizing as well ^^" We should have concluded that generalizing is not a good idea. The majority of the students I have meet are not spoilt brats in fact they are great and wonderful people and as with not everyone who go to form 6 is poor, not everyone who go to private institutions are rich either. There's a huge chunk of students that are under Scholarships and under loans like PTPTN,MARA loan etc.I also have friends who go to form 6 even though they can afford private education.
This is all a matter of one's choice rather than what one can do though certain people may not have many or only have one choice. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter who you are and where you come from, the world is a harsh place and unless one puts in some effort one will fall. It's the survival of the fittest though not literally ahaha XD STPM can in fact be repeated though if you failed it it is not such a bright idea to repeat the thing unless you have no choice as most of us would agree that it's not something everybody can get through with excellent marks. |
