Hi! May I know whether a non-bumiputra can enter this local university? Must I be Islam to enter?
Anyone (non-bumiputra) enter before? What are your experience?

I wonder if there's any difference with other public universities ?
Such as if we compare the environment of USM and UIAM ?

I mean...the world "Islamic" does that conclude that most of the students there are Islam ?

Well with IPTA and their unofficial quotas mostly any IPTA you go would have majority of Islam students ^^" It's just you will see more of the Islamic elements in UIAM compared to other universities and the students have a more strict dress-code than other universities probebly ^^

As far as I know, non-bumi can study in uia too. And you don't necessarily need to be a Muslim to enter uia. Few of my friends are non-bumi (Indian, Chinese and some from other countries). We (since I was uia-ans before biggrin.gif) call the students as 'Direct-Intake' students coz they're either STPM-ers, Diploma students or foreigners.

If I'm not mistaken, non-muslim here need to take some islamic studies as well like other students. And don't worry, it's not a 'pecah kepala' kind of subject. In my opinion, it's more like ethical issues in which that if you goreng during exam, sure can get marks lah biggrin.gif

One more thing I like is the environment. I mean more like the location of where all the kuliyyahs, office buildings are situated. Everything is like in the centre of uia. And outside the centre boundaries are the hostels. You don't have to run around the campus just to get from one place to another which to me is wasting my time and only make me all sweaty by the time I arrive to my next class, haha.

And the hostels are superb I think. Very selesa and not like the school hostel type. Each room will have 4 students and each of the students will have their own compartment. More privacy lah. Do naughty thing also ppl don't know biggrin.gif

Whatelse..?? Ugh, the international students are very kind and very comfortable to work with. I don't really have issues with most of the international students that I worked with before... well, some of them might be a bit 'konon-konon sangatlah pandai in everything but they're actually not' but most of them are very down to earth, so easy to work with.

One thing to be berjaga-jaga is the pak guard. They can be very 'kejamlah' sometimes, fining ppl, especially when PTPTN or the scholars are out.

Aaah, and don't be all 'terkejut' once you start studying there and suddenly if you go outing and take the train from Terminal Putra, you'll see some students who go with you inside the bus to the LRT all wearing very ayu and then by the time they reach Terminal Putra, they'll take off everything and walla, here comes the skinny jeans, sleeveless tops biggrin.gif

hell?? lol~

anyone can enter IIUM...from my personal observation, most non-bumis pursuit their studies in IIUM for law degree. non-muslim girls need to wear scarf and proper cloth to class and if im not mistaken the syllabus for muslim and non muslim slightly different.

there are rules that i can say normal for an education institute with additional rules that portrayed the university as an islamic university. however, there are no strict implementation. pray is a religious duty, thus all Muslim need to pray. there is 'pergaulan bebas' at UIA but it is in control...there is student's club that actively monitoring the issues. frankly, not all IIUM students are devouted Muslim doh.gif

you would expect that in a university with 'islam' in its name, no?.....

at least they have an open door policy, they welcome everybody irrespective of race or creed.......

that is more than uitm, which is ONLY for malays.....

QUOTE
Centre for Foundation Studies is located in a satelite town south of the metropolis. But one need not cross the busy streets of the city to travel between the two campuses; there are two freeways that connect the two suburbs. The travelling time is less than an hour on either highway.

can someone please tell me what does this paragraph actually means? is the center for Foundation studies in petaling jaya?

BTW, can chinese enter the asasi?
General Requirement 4 ALL programmes
look at this link, it states that general requirement for ALL programmes includes a credit in pendidikan islam and other islam subjects... blink.gif

let me describe iium:

well iium is established by the govt under companies act not auku so that it can use english in all medium of communications to reflect its internationality. some courses are conducted in arabic.

they want to create an islamic environment for study thus the rule of tudung etc. as this is part of the education policy adopted by IIUM. it is enforced however the authorities there feel that its better to have more campaign run by students then enforcement. The saman is part of the enforcement.

you need to study arabic + some islamic studies so that you can understand the culture and it can be done there.

no lah. non Muslim can, not wear tudung/hijab/veil/scarf whatever. it is only that most of them at least wear scarf to comply with the islamic dresscode in the attempt to better mix with the larger crowd. However, the written dresscode for non-Muslims is not the same as the one meant for Muslims. They can wear anything as long as it's decent. And the rules are not that strict too, mind you.

To fellow ex or currently studying in uiam students.. I've got a question.

The islamic studies... Are they tough? Will they be much of a burden in your opinions? And what is it about? Do you have to take up arabic as another language?

looool so many misconceptions about iium. im currently in the iium foundation center in nilai taking english^^

honestly, the arabic is really easy. i have a friend who has never learned arabic before but during final exam she managed to get an A while i only got a B >.< (eventhough i had learned arabic for nearly 10 years lol. the bits that i learned in secondary school are very complicated for me to comprehend. and im really lazy so yeah tongue.gif)

and the foudation centre is like 1087363 times more strict than the main campus. my sister is taking econs in the main campus so she told me a lot of stuff goin on there biggrin.gif yes, you can wear jeans to class, nobody would care really. even the lecturers. i went to the main campus a few times and i saw the students wearing skinnies and leggings and that sort of clothing to class. the kind of clothing you can never wear in cfs nilai tongue.gif

for the female non muslim, you have to wear at least something to cover your head. a scarf wouldnt be necessary. just a bandanna would do biggrin.gif the important thing is to cover your head. and oh yes, dress modestly! i think the only thing you cant wear to class are minis and tank tops XD but to be on the safe side, just cover the major parts of your body^^

the pak guards in the main campus are so much better than the ones in the cfs. i got fined rm50 because i didnt wear an anak tudung once >.< thank god i got it reduced to rm10 at the principal's office.

and their system is a bit fgrkivgffrv la. the staffs in the offices always seemed pissed somehow and they're really not friendly. if you ask a lot of questions they might just tell you to piss off or smthng XD

I KNOW RIGHTT. all the gedik girls were dancing in front of everybody with flirty body movements and stuff shocking.gif
i left when everybody started dancing. nothing like uia ady doh.gif HAHA i was told about the splashing incident. when the dinner finally ended all those girls were making such a ruckus outside the hall that they got splashed by the boys from their upper level dorms. serves them right lol rclxm9.gif

and i wholeheartedly agree on your last sentence. and most of them likes to have so-called intelligent sounding conversations in an american accent with each other blink.gif i mean, they're both malays right so why dont they just speak malay to each other. wanna show off their super english skills i suppose tongue.gif

my chinese fren (finished STPM) planning to apply for law degree in UIA this year...but when she read this:

https://online.mohe.gov.my/upu/emas/index_s...A&carian4=00197

MEMENUHI SYARAT AM UNIVERSITI
DAN
SYARAT KHAS PROGRAM

3. Mendapat sekurang-kurangnya 6C/C pada peringkat SPM dalam mata pelajaran berikut:

Pendidikan Islam / Tasawwur Islam / Pendidikan Al-Qur'an & As-Sunnah / Pendidikan Syariah Islamiah

Mathematics /Additional Mathematics
Sejarah

Mana-mana tiga (3) mata pelajaran lain termasuk Bahasa Melayu; ....

How ar? she never take Pendidikan Islam / Tasawwur Islam / Pendidikan Al-Qur'an & As-Sunnah / Pendidikan Syariah Islamiah for SPM..then cannot enter ?

And, do they provide free bus shuttle from certain location to pick up students from KTM station or monorail?

Some non bumis/Muslims took Tasawwur Islam because they knew they had to take it in order to enter UIA if I'm not wrong. whistling.gif I was exposed to Tasawwur Islam.. looked kinda easy.. ended up not taking it though.
