Anyone updated their PS3 with the new 3.30 firmware??
Amongst the update it brings to the PS3 is the elusive BITSTREAM audio option for BluRay disc playback...
Anyone tried it yet??

QUOTE(maskedchan @ Apr 25 2010, 06:00 PM) that setting is for optical cable.. It works as claimed.... my AVR shows DTS and Dolby Digital as opposed to showing PCM before the update. not HDMI..so no idea what that for.. i no use optical..so no idea.. optical can carry HD audio? Sound field, depth and details has improved slightly as the AVR is the one doing all the heavy lifting now... Using PS3 Fat and HDMI.... finally my AVR shows the true sound codec and not just PCM.... |

QUOTE(maskedchan @ Apr 25 2010, 06:14 PM) AVR show DTS MA and TruHD? Its showing DTS and Dolby Digital, not DTS MA or DD TrueHD.... checking on the PS3 display during movie playback also shows DTS and Dolby Digital only....or just DTS/ DObly Digital? The settings on BD Video and BD Audio are set to BITSTREAM (Direct) and BITSTREAM.... so unclear why its showing DTS and DD on the AVR... And i do have a DTS MA and DD TrueHD enabled AVR..... |

QUOTE(maskedchan @ Apr 25 2010, 06:53 PM) well..as far i know.. optical cable only can go max DD/DTS I suppose so, mayb only the slim can decode DTS MA and TrueHD.... cannot get TruHD or DTS MA like someone claim able to do i guess you need HDMI cable to geth TruHD and DTS MA...+ PS3 slim of course.. since PS3 fat cant do it.. And yup, i am also under the impression that toslink cant carry DTS MA and TrueHD, thats y am using HDMI for PS3, WDTV and Xbox360.... but mayb i am outdated with my info... But still nice to have bitstream as an option rather than PCM as i find PS3's decoding is a little too agressive.... switch between PCM and Bitstream in the same scene and you will notice the diff.... Nice move by Sony.... just when Sony removed the "Other OS" option in PS3.... next up... 3D gaming and thereafter, 3D BD playback... This post has been edited by Poadster: Apr 25 2010, 07:07 PM |

QUOTE(fadthil @ Apr 27 2010, 03:46 AM) Is that right? Maybe I should go check 'em out this weekend... well, 50" is a such a satisfying screen size for a non-projection display, let alone 3D capable 200Hz... but to get one: The Samsung one is at RM17,999 (LED) while the new Panasonic Plasma TX P50VT20 (50in 600Hz 3D plasma) is at RM14,999 (currently only Best Denki has stocks, but i'd assume others will hv it soon). And each TV only comes with ONE active shutter glasses, additional units at RM400 each. My biggest gripe with them, the weight as there's battery and the active shutter glasses on them. It slides off the bridge of my nose in less than one minute.... imagine watching Avatar while holding on to them the whole period...
