Not sure if this question has been asked before. Just need to know if these titles from Amazon UK region free or payable for region A BD players.
1) Lord of The Rings Trilogy
2) Minority Report Limited Edition Steelbook
3) The book of Eli
4) Toy Story 1 & 2
5) Avatar
6) The Wolfman Extended Cut

Planning to get these from Amazon UK. It seems much cheaper to get it from UK with the low conversion rate.

Do help.

Check here.

Blu Ray Region Check

Avatar is a Fox release which is almost surely region locked.

ToyStory 1 and 2 is region free.

Warner is normally region free (most of the time). Minority Report is a Paramount release in the US but a Fox release in the UK (hard to tell at the moment)

The rest u need to check.

Watched Monsoon Wedding (Criterion) a couple of days ago. Captures the elements of marriage chaos to the parents and all around.

Very interesting watch. Mira Nair is pretty good at weaving a tale. Yes there is the songs, but in all Indian weddings there are actual singing and dancing (North India). She works the characters pretty well, and brings the tale of a traditional India moving into Modern India. Not sure if non Indians will actually see what's being potrayed, but still there is a lot of stuff to take out of it. Those of us who are parents have girls to give away as a bride one day can reflect upon the dads feelings. She tackles a lot of issues, that are new to India (in 2001) like, love before marriage, how the society deals with the western influence, parents choices for their kids and childrens loyalty.

PQ - This is interesting. Criterion did a fabulous job in this restoration as this was initially captured in 16mm and then blown up to 35mm. Grain haters beware....Stay away, but this is how it was shot, also to give the gritty feel of India and its streets.

AQ - Very good 3 channel, the surrounds are sparsely used, but subtle when needed.

I would give it a 2 thumbs up. However, I dare not recommend this to all those who have wrote to hate Bollywood song and dance. Although, in this case it is not a normal Bollywood, there are song and dance but it is at a wedding and it is a real reflection of actual weddings.

Blu-ray.com stated [Region Free].

Ah, something changed then. Predator standalone is region locked, they must have re-released like X-Men.

The best version till date is the Big Home video ,the one D has as above. With slipcover brows.gif wub.gif
Better still the UK survival guide edition thumbup.gif

I believe the best PQ/AQ for Jodha Akhbar is the Bodega version. The only problem with that is it does not have English subtitles. Also the Bodega is 6.1 DTSHDMA....

have not been following the avs forum. can anyone chime in on the Shaving Ryans Privates audio-sync issue - is this a real issue with the US version of the blu-ray? as i understand it, the audio-sync delay starts from Chapter 15 onwards.

terra,

I believe that with the latest firmware from Oppo some owners are saying that they do not observe/hear the audio sync issues. Not sure though, don't have the disc yet

I can only hope for the best....should have waited a little longer for more feedbacks sad.gif

Next time gonna order from Amazon.com

All right then..

How to compare this same title...Chronicles of Riddick?
UK version: Directors Cut = Runtime 128min
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chronicles-Riddick...73218041&sr=8-1

US version: Unrated Directors Cut = Runtime 119min
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001RTCP1..._rd_i=193640011

But when I check Imdb. Original movie is 119min....and Directors Cut is USA 134min

Confuse  rclxub.gif

Do not believe the run times in Amazon....

I believe it is a Universal title. I doubt there will be a significant difference. Quick check and it shows that they are the same with exact runtime, codec and bit rates. So don't worry.

This is from this avs site.

Just be careful dude.. they are cheap but they are mostly substandard BD press. The expensive ones around 17 pounds are OK. I got 4-5 cheap titles from UK all have sticker "FOR RESALE OR RENTAL" on the cover ... wtf, and the video bitrates are not impressive at all - average 15Mbps only. PQ same or slightly better than DVD. But SQ are no issue. Example of titles with this are - Stealth, The patriots, Tear of the sun, Serenity. Now, I'm ordering back from US - more expensive, but I got REAL BD smile.gif ... (I think my Stealth DVD has better PQ and SQ then the BD sad.gif

Stealth that u mentioned has me thinking. If u see the US specs its a MPEG-2 encode with ~ 16.73 Mbps as well, thats pretty low and to add insult it is a MPEG-2.

I hv the US version, now maybe I will get the UK version as comparison to see how bad it can be.

Although, in general I agree that at times, it does look like the UK gets lower encodes, I think 95% of the time it is either the same or negligible differences.

There are exceptions of course.

Seems like it's true that the lip out of sync issue is the main concern
Not on the LFE or filter issue  hmm.gif

I wonder whether buyers here can get a replacement copy from Amazon? biggrin.gif

Send them a note. I would expect them to honour the replacement even for those outside of the US. They also shd pay for the return shipping.

I never got to watching Avatar on the big screen but received my BD copy yesterday. I put it in for a quick check and boy was it an experience. The colours are just so vibrant, I can imagine how this will look in a well setup digital projector! Yeah, I believe this one is reference for PQ.

Watched Avatar and this is my review.

The PQ is definately reference with bright colours. It is a good show off disc for HT and a well calibrated display. I could not really detect any EE, or artifacts due to mastering. AQ uses the surrounds pretty well. They are active all around. LFE moments strong. My setup does not allow below 23Hz so the filtering did not effect me in any way I would know, but I still believe its weak compared to the scene.

The movie, sends out its messages about humanity pretty well. I think it achieves the purpose pretty well. Subtle messaging about politics, wrangle over power, how the "unobtanium...oil rules the world thing is pretty much in yer face.

However, I believe it is justified that it did not win any awards for acting or best film. Nothing spectacular abt the movie. It did not grip me enuf to even complete in single watch..so go figure.
