Hi all experts and veterans, I am a totally new iPhone user (2 days old) blush.gif
A few noob questions to ask, wish someone will guide me on the transition from long time Nokia to iPhone user... sweat.gif

[1]
Got my iPhone 3GS (16GB) from Maxis.
Does it mean my phone isn't locked?
So what's the different between Locked and Unlocked?

[2]
I launch an application, then how do I close/exit/quit an application?
I always press the (HOME) button after using an application.
For example: I open Safari to browse the web, when I want to compose an SMS,
I press the (HOME) button to go to the main screen then tap and "Messages" icon.
Then what about Safari at the background? How do I exit the application? hmm.gif

[3]
While I am at home, I use my Wifi to go online (on my router).
However, for security reason, the Wireless SSID Broadcast was set to Disabled on my router.
I can manually enter the SSID and password to "Join" the WLAN network.
But the next time when I want to use the Wifi network again, I will have to manually enter the information again.
The phone did not save my WLAN information, is this normal?

[4]
What is the benefits of Jailbreaking the phone?

I think I only have those questions at the moment. smile.gif

Thank you! notworthy.gif

Hello, please refer to the FAQ page for your queries C=

For your Q3, you should need to enter the SSID only once and thereafter when you are at home your phone should be able to detect and auto-connect to it.
*
Ok, thank you bluehyppo and tinkerbel... biggrin.gif

Regarding "quitting" an application, maybe I missed the section? In fact I already read that...
All I found is how to Kill an application... sweat.gif

For the WLAN, the phone still cannot "remember" my hidden network that was manually added and used...
I need to enter the SSID and the password each time I want to use my home Wifi... hmm.gif

Anyway, many thanks for all contributor of this iPhone section and make it so informative. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(frozzbyte @ Mar 31 2010, 03:15 PM)
That's the function of hidden SSID. If iPhone can 'see' it then it's not hidden right? To connect, it need to 'see' unless you point out to it.

Why go to great length of hiding the SSID? Afraid of leechers hacking to your router? Rather than hiding SSID, why not just allow certain MAC address to log on?
*
Thanks frozzbyte... icon_rolleyes.gif

Perhaps, I set the router security to strict... I hide the SSID and limit the access for only certain MAC addresses.... laugh.gif
Now I set SSID broadcast to Enable and it can automatically find and connect to my home wifi... rclxm9.gif

As I said earlier, I was a Nokia user, it work totally different way... that's why I'm confused...
When it (Nokia) successfully connected my wifi network for the first time,
it save an access point, it can then connect even if I hide the SSID... smile.gif

Anyway, thank you again, frozzbyte! thumbup.gif

I'm also a very new iPhone user, so not 100% sure, but no harm try this: smile.gif

On your iTunes, go to Edit -> Preferences...
On "General" tab, look bottom "When you insert a CD" section... click [Import Settings...] button
Make sure the small window pop-up and [AAC Encoder] is selected. biggrin.gif

So is there any solution for this? How u register then?
*
I can't do anything, at the end I have to provide my credit card information and continue the registration.
Feel "tak syok" when somebody keep my credit card information even though I'm not planing to spend on them in the near future. shakehead.gif

Hi, for those who did key in their CC info, you can always view your account info in iTunes and change it to the 'none' option. I do this to avoid ter-buying apps.
*
Thank you for your valuable information, bluehyppo... I will try it now~! thumbup.gif

EDIT: Confirmed, working~!!! rclxms.gif

they do have it (the technology)

but the GSM frequency bands are not supported.

seriously just do a quick research online.

for starters

*
This is quite weird, because when I use Nokia, I can see the icon below signal strength sometimes switch from 3G to 3.5G, I thought Maxis have 3.5G already, but actually no?

Hi all,

I really need your help/advise on making WinSCP connect to my phone... sad.gif

Whenever I try to make the connection, when it reach the "connecting to host" stage, the following error message is displayed:

Server unexpectedly closed network connection

Strange is, I had it worked before (but only once) and that's the only one and the last time.

I tried:
uninstall and reinstall WinSCP
uninstall and reinstall OpenSSH

I can see I am not the only one who get this error, but just can't find a working solution.
I already did a search on this forum, seems no solution either.

Is there any other freeware program for Windows that do the similar thing as WinSCP?

Please help... sad.gif

Hi all,

I'm using iPhone 3GS with firmware 3.1.3 and jailbroken with Spirit.
How can I "upgrade" to iOS 4.0.1 without going straight to 4.0.2 as Apple directed?

I had already "made my life easier" with Cydia before and now it shows the following each time I open Cydia:

This device had SHSHs on file for iPhone OS / iOS: 3.1.3 4.0 4.0.1

Am I correct to download the firmware file: iOS 4.0.1 for iPhone 3GS from this post?

Should I modified my Windows HOST file and add 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com in it to do this upgrade?

Should I enter DFU mode before I proceed with the [Shift]+Click? (I read I should do this if I want to downgrade, but how about upgrade?)

I think that's all the questions I need for this moment, wish someone with experience could help and I would like to thanking you in advanced! smile.gif

You must, put into DFU mode before restore.

Many thanks for the useful answers, you're very helpful... nod.gif thumbup.gif

By the way, I've heard "iPhoneDelivery" also one of the culprit to cause Facebook 3.2 & 3.2.1 to get such error... sad.gif
