Hi all,

I want to plan for my daughther school in PJ. I know there are 3 chinese schools nearby which are

1) SRJK Yuk Chai
2) SRJK Puai Chai
3) SRJK Sungai Way

Would need advice from experts on below items

1) How is the school facilities (any field , library, modern or old, etc) ?
2) How is the quality of the education provided ?
3) Are there lots of disciplinary issues with the students in the school ?
4) How is the congestion during peak hours ? (P.S. I notice the road for Sungai Way school is pretty small and lots of commercial area around it)
5) All in all, if you consider all factors, which school would you choose and why ?
6) Are there any nearby school beside the above ?

Would appreciate your feedback

1) SRJK Yuk Chai (my son studied there)
2) SRJK Puai Chai (my nephew studied there)
3) SRJK Sungai Way (no idea)

1) How is the school facilities (any field , library, modern or old, etc) ?
YC - small 200m field, but many basketball hoops different heights - YC <12 yrs old team is national champion many years - the players then go to BU3 to continue their basketball career under the Chai brothers who are national coaches.
Library is well stocked, new building just sprouted up < 5 years ago through donations.
Takwondo club under Master Kevin Woon produces national fighters e.g. Ryan Chong. Chief Coach Wong Chin Bean the only medalist (silver) ever in World Taekwondo Competition by Malaysia.
Recently table tennis team also produced 4 Selangor state players, one which is now national player. Gymnastics - appeared in the Star recently cannot remember.
PC - not too sure.

2) How is the quality of the education provided ?
Excellent but PC is extremely academic. Not suitable for weaker students who get pressurized by teachers who are pressurized by Headmaster. YC more balance with sports


3) Are there lots of disciplinary issues with the students in the school ?
Very low. Teachers are authorized by PTA to carry rotan. Different from SMK schools. So if you have hyperactive kid, need to keep close relationship with Headmaster and class teacher. PC is very strict e.g. long hair not permitted for girls.

4) How is the congestion during peak hours ? (P.S. I notice the road for Sungai Way school is pretty small and lots of commercial area around it)
Both YC and PC are extremely congested. If you sending yrself, really need to have high patience unless you ask bas sekolah to fetch


5) All in all, if you consider all factors, which school would you choose and why ?
Prefer YC to PC as it is less stressful for the kid + more sports.

I studied in Puay Chai.

Facilities wise.. there's a field, only enough for 100m track, 1 basketball court and 1 multi purpose court. There is a hall with 6 badminton courts. Library has quite many books, but not very frequently visited by students.

Regarding to the above poster on number 3, long hair is permitted for girls.

I would recommend Yuk Chai too because the standard of Puay Chai has been dwindling lately. Teachers are not really dedicated to teaching nowadays. If there's a choice of Lick Hung, I would choose that. Or you can consider Puay Chai 2in Bandar Utama too. It has an extremely holistic development for the children. But not Puay Chai 1.

anyone has SRJK Sungai Way experience ?

they r not interested in teaching in class, only use it to solicit for private tuition. they got the cheek to approach students she teaches in same class.

It is the same board of directors. But the standard is determined by the way teachers teach, how the principal takes charge of school, how supportive the PTA are.. Oh Puay Chai's PTA is very stingy. Puay Chai 2 is not.

I'm not sure about the traffic to Puay Chai 2 but since it's BU4, I guess it will be pretty heavy? Since downwards is Kota Damansara, which is a nightmare. Early morning should be ok.

How about primary school in cheras? Any good recommendation?

hey TS, i didn't attend Chinese primary school, hence im a banana. But just wanna point out are u sure you want your kid to go to chinese school? i have a friend and she is 10 and stressing like crazy to do hwk, i think it's terrible for young kids. She wakes up in the middle of the night remembering to do homework.. Because of the new english science and maths (not new la lol) then the chinese school still wants to do it in chinese, they do double.. Maths and science in english and chinese.. And unless you are a good student, you will struggle in BM when you go into high school.. Just my two cents

I survived well in chinese primary school without doing homework.

But homework introduction since young introduces the term discipline. Its the fear of homework which drives them to not be rowdy. And the cane, too.

In my opinion, the amount of homework of the chinese primary school trains the students to be disciplined. There's a reason why there are more a students from chinese primary schools than malay ones (at least in my area). I'm from chinese primary school then went on to malay secondary school that teaches chinese also. I can say that the training from young is what taught me to be more hardworking than the average student.

To TS, I think you should check out the school above befire enrolling your son. Also ask my friends about the school's environment etc. Don't be afraid to try out the schools. I myself changed schools 2 times (not cos of homework load), and I'm doing fine. I have more friends (or acquaintances) than the average student.

ps: i'm from sjkc damansara. it's near kota damansara, pj. don't know how much it has changed, but when i was there it was good. no lazy teachers, good environment, small student community. but that was some 6 years ago:D

Some of the forummers have kids current studying there.

you might want to go during recess time or something, to see for yourself what the environment is like. I mean how the students behave and such. Just a tip..

Primary 1 is afternoon school hence they start slighty before 1pm .. recess is around 3+pm but you cannot go into the school compound unless you sign in at the security gate with a good reason e.g. see principal due to naughty kid !

You can stand outside the fence and take a look at the kids having their break around 10 meters away though.

Best is to make appointment with the afternoon supervisor and have a quick chat with her as suggested earlier above ?

Hi bro, I studied in pc2 2 years back and I'm staying in Menjalara.
You can try to enroll ur kids because there might be a chance for ur kid to get in, but I was staying in DU last time.
Teachers in pc2 are fairly good, new hall that was just opened last year. Academic and sports are also good.
Overall a good chinese primary school.

Hi everyone, need advice if it is still better to send my kid to yuk chai. He's currently in lai meng but since it will move to bkt jalil, i plan to move to SS23 instead as the other son goes to kiwanis. Grateful for your feedback

My son is in yc, so fsr so good ..he is having fun n not complain at all
But is very competating skool..this year 1st half exam for standart one 40% students scored a purata 95%

is there anyone who has any knowledge about chinese primary school at desa parkcity (srjkc kepong 3), sri damansara (sjkc desa jaya) and sjkc puay chai 2? i m staying at damansara perdana, so wanna find out the schools so my children can apply to get in.

How’s the standard in 2921/2022? And which one is more sports focused ? Do they still rotan kids for yuk chai? Not keen on that
