Hello people,

Just joined Lowyat, since I just returned to the region. (came back from Japan, currently living in Singapore, but was born and bred in Malaysian)

This was the first thread that caught my eye, so I guess this is my debut post. smile.gif

Linux. Debian is the distro and OpenBox is one of the nicest WM ever. smile.gif

Right.
Glad to know you're familiar with Linux and lightweight WMs (instead of the usual Win7,Gnome,KDE,OSX).
I've seen some of your screenshots on this month's thread, and I must say I like your style a lot. I never knew you could make windows look like that (I haven't used Windows since 98, though).. Very impressive! smile.gif

Coolest desktop ever thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif
Looks like the icon is transparent.

Wonder if its doable on Windows XP hmm.gif

I made the Openbox theme and GTK myself, so I'm not sure how you could port it to winXP.
The icon colours/gradients I just changed with a script.
I'm glad you like it. Here's a couple more for you; biggrin.gif

This one is on the same netbook.

Different netbook, same OpenBox WM but running Gentoo distro.

From a 6 yr old laptop running Xubuntu (Xfce)

Compared to my OpenBox setup, this one is actually pretty stock/traditional looking.

If you want proof, go the the OStalk forums.... there you'll find the same username I use in #!, but with the avatar I use here.
If you look really, really hard, you could possibly find me in the Debian and Slackware forums as well tongue.gif

Been fine-tuning my theme a bit, since it's supposed to be a community theme for an upcoming distribution. Also been dirty-hacking the compositor to get drop-shadows just how I like them.

Currently trying to decide on a simple, minimal layout for my Conky (the system monitor on the left), but I'm not a fan of rings or graphs that take up too much screen space. Any suggestions?

I'd suggest that you tone down on the drop shadows for your fonts, and I've long since forgone the need to gawk at how my RAM or DL speeds perform tongue.gif

You should go on DA, might be more helpful and you'll get better feedback if you ask nicely. smile.gif
*
The Linux theming/modding community on DA is a bit of a mess. Unlike Windows or OSX, Linux has a LOT of desktop environments and window managers to chose from (which I'm sure you know), hence everyone's opinion on aesthetics is already skewed from prolonged use of their specific DE/WM. You'll get people telling you to make OpenBox look like Gnome, Gnome to look like KDE, KDE to look like Win7 (crazy, but it's true), Xmonad to look like Ratpoison.... etc.

Do you mean the drop shadows on the system monitor part?... Ah, those are easy since they have their own "shade" settings and don't depend on system-wide compositing.

I guess I'll just go design some new wallpapers instead and keep the current layout.

Thanks. smile.gif

This is the last of my "Striped Wallpaper + Matching Theme" sets.

If there are any OpenBox users here (probably none of you), I can share the theme packs if requested.

Sure.
Here you go = http://www.mediafire.com/?dn2ztyjdldg smile.gif

Resolution is 2048x1200 @ 200ppi, so you should be able to upscale well if your monitor is larger.
If it's not acceptable, let me know and I'll make a new one in your desired resolution.

what is open box? open source?

mind sharing... nod.gif

OpenBox is a minimalist window manager for Linux/BSD.
I can share my custom theme and configs if you want, but they're probably useless if you're on Windows.
