508XG arrived this morning rclxms.gif The size is humongous vs my 29" CRT TV.

Currently break in using Evangelo2's DVD.

The Kungfu Panda, Ratatouille & Monster Inc. PQ is awesome with out of box setting.

if i can find a KRP-500A for Rm12,999, should i go for it? I know the price can get lower during the times when stock was available. 13k if a few years ago aint that much for a flat screen but today when prices are so low, i wonder if its prudent to spend so much on one. comments appreciated

serendipity168 & gang, i suggest to put on FAQ in the front page.

Q1: Do I need to break in on my new Plasma TV?

Q2: What is break in process?

Q3: How long is the break in process?

Q4: What is recommended setting for new set during break in process?

Q5: How to do break in?

Q6: How to check if my new set is new and not used set?

Q7: How to prevent burn in or IR?

hopefully bro Anfield is kind enough to put on FAQ for calibration, he he.

Bro, under Home Menu > Picture > Pro Adjust > Picture Details. Got Gamma selection (1,2,3). Any idea what is Gamma (1,2,3)? Not much info available on the manual.

Different average gamma targets. 1 is about 2.15, 2 is about 2.25 and 3 is about 2.32.

Gamma is set depending on ur room conditions. For room with lots of ambient light (ie daytime, it is better to target a gamma of below 2.2. For HT use with some ambient light, maybe 2.25 and for a room with very good light control 2.35.

That is one of the reasons why Pioneer has the ISF ccc modes, ISFday so that u can adjust for the higher ambient light and ISF night for more serious viewing.

notworthy.gif with gamma 3, i can get average 2.30.

ISF modes brows.gif perhaps i should settle for better meter first nod.gif

Anfield, here is what I'm doing for Color Calibration for 508XG.

First, I using Color Control to set 21% of Y(100% of White) for Y(Red) and the Tint Control to set the Cyan (x,y). Then, using the CMS to set the (x,y) for RYGCBM as per Rec709 standard. I'm wondering how to set the Y for YGCBM as there is no such control in CMS? Did I missed out anything?

Should I use the 75% Color test patterns, I assume the Y(Red) should refer to the 21% of Y(75% of White), correct?

The CMS in the Kuro is a 2D CMS and not that great. However, the overall colour control acts a universal Y control for all colours. It gets u close enough for all colours.

I would not touch the CMS at all as it induces a non linear greyscale on the 8G Kuros. All the colour points are already < 4 DE1994 and meet the Rec 709 for the colours without touching the CMS. If u r not seeing the accuracy of the colour points , it is inaccuracy of ur probe.

Got it. Thanks.

Now I understand the 3D CMS terms biggrin.gif

Will see if I can get ruler flat type of Gamma plot using Movie Mode on 8G Kuro. rclxms.gif

Other than ControlCal, is there any freeware for ISF activation for Kuro 8G?

For Kuro 9G kaki, there is Kurocontrol

You need to adjust the setting with meter and test pattern --> to get proper grayscale calibration.

Without meter, the setting is not accurate.
