Hello everybody. I am a newbie on this forum. How do I post a simple message on this particular here?

Added on May 8, 2010, 12:49 pmThink I got it. Can finally see my message up on Pioneer forum.

Hello everybody. Just like Stardust and Alias, I recently purchased a Pioneer Krp-500a in addition to my year old Pdp-428. Knew I have to get this gem before the stock depleted, so after a 6 month long wait for the price to drop, and many visits and phone calls to the retail shops in Penang, I finally made my move.

The 500a is now in the living hall, and the 428xg has been 'promoted' to the bedroom upstairs. Both looks esthetically gorgeous in black bazel and blends in nicely with the furniture.

By the way Stardust, did you get a brand new set with a 5 year guarantee? $12k is really cheap, considering you got a Pioneer Bluray 320 worth $1.5k, much cheaper than what I paid for.

Please do enlist me into your list of proud Pioneer plasma owners. Thanks. thumbup.gif

Congrats. You got the best deal ever. Too bad, up north here not much competition and very few retailers carry Pioneer plasmas. Only Harvey Norman Queensbay Mall and SenQ Gurney Plaza have Krp-500 on display; they don't give much discount or free gifts unless you really adamant you want some freebies or else no deal!

Have been following this thread for some time but things got more interesting since the krp-500 arrived. Can't seem to get optimum calibration, especially when watching standard Astro. Each channel needs different settings, and there is a tendency towards reddish tint. Very obvious when watching the skin colour of news presenters. Read that this is one of Pioneer's weaknesses.

How do one set about calibrating for standard Astro? I am starting off in Movie mode, Contrast 39, DRE high, Enhancer 1, Gamma 3, Colour Temp Mid-High, Colour Space 2, other parameters neutral or 0.

The white flourescent lighting for my living room is about half the brightness of that in showroom.

I am using standard Astro now, but think it will only a matter of time before upgrading to Astro Byond when more HD channels come online.

The first 150-200 hrs upon arrival at end March, the contrast, brightness and colour were set at 20. Now the settings are at whatever level I feel is appropriate, ie natural for Astro. Still can't get proper calibrations for normal skin colour, which has a tendency to be pinkish red. Felt the pdp-428 gave better results for skin colour.

Anyone knows where I can get Controlcal and light meter up North? Haven't seen any myself. Calibration with own eyes is turning out to be really frustrating. Kept on changing the settings, never satisfied. Time to invest $ to get professional results. Was told by Pioneer the optional colour sensor costs $599, but the reviews are not encouraging.

Thanks anfieldude. Me newbie in this forum. Will pm you as soon as I get through the help section biggrin.gif

The following comments may be of interest here. My observance of Krp-500 so far after 6 weeks usage, week 1-3 at low contrast, brightness, colour, week, week 4-6 at levels stated earlier. Noticed a slight pinkish red tendency especially when seeing newcasters' face colour on Astro news channel like CNN, BBC, CNBC, etc. I also have a old Sony 29' CRT side by side for comparison. Also made comparisons viewing BBC online streaming news on laptop. Had to adjust colour temperature to Mid High to reduce red colour but instead the face colour turned slight blue, pale. Not satisfied. mad.gif

Perhaps the set has not settled down yet, may need more run-in. Very sure that my calibrations are way off without proper calibrations.

Any comments, advices, anyone?

Don't understand what you mean by 'with proper settings using custom RGBs that will go away'. Can it be done in the main display menu? rclxub.gif

Will leaving the colour temperature at medium be optimum, or do I have to go into manual mode to get best results? Used manual a few times but colour temp not as accurate as in medium or medium-high.

Mmm... haven't seen any calibration software and hardware before. Called up Pioneer KL and was told they don't provide ISF service. Seriously considering proper calibration, fed up with having to fiddle with the settings each time me thinks the display is a bit off. After all, it would be a waste if one can't get the best out of the Kuros.

Any place selling it in Penang?

3 units of Pioneer Krp-600 still on sale at Harvey Norman, including display unit at Ikano. Price listed RM26,999.00. Would not mind getting another Pioneer if not for the price.....

Phoned Pioneer HQ in KL but they say they are out of stock already. Thanks.
