hey everybody,

seem like the thread has not been alive for the past week. i'm just wondering if anyone could advise me on how to continue my career after acca. I am at a total lost now. I took my final 2 papers last December and now awaiting results. Not too confident but keeping the faith. I don't what I should do now. Should I further study Masters or should I be working already. About work, which is better you lot reckon? Work in audit firms and suffer for 3 years or so but gaining a heck of experiences or just join other companies not directly related to audit/accounts and slowly climbing the ladders?

you think so? i have to say i am kind of inclined to go for those audit firms because everyone else is doing it. i want to be different but i am afraid the need to be different from everyone else will cost me.

lol true that. but the thought of your peers surpassing you because one misstep is a bit intimidating.

I'm not sure myself what path and career I want to go for. But it seemed like the typical thing to do after ACCA is to join an audit company. Not to mention I've been told that getting my ACCA means nothing in other companies because they would usually require a degree or whatnot. It'd be more recognised in audit companies because hey the module of ACCA is kind of designed around those type of companies. I don't know if my friends and teachers are trying to scare me or not lol. Back then I told myself I would most likely not join the Big Four companies just because everyone else is doing it and it's what people expect of you. But now, I'm thinking about it more because of the opportunities I can get right after and well other people are doing it, must be for a great reason right? Not just to torture themselves right? If Big Four is so awful how come everybody wants to be there? Questions like this make me go

None taken. I understand why you would think so. I am not different from others but wanting to be different. Living the life of a typical accountant is not exactly the path that I'm going for. That is why I take ACCA anyway because I was told that taking ACCA won't just lead me to accountancy route solely but others as well. Like being dynamic and such. But if joining the Big4 is what it will take to boost my profile, I will do it.

Very true. I think ACCA grads has this "oh, i'm out now, i'm better than you because my qualificatioin is higher than you, i just have to sit through 3 years or so" attitude. In any field of work, one should be proactive and always seeking out oppotunities. You don't get to earning 5-figure salary, just by sitting around. Honestly, it's not that I am not interested in joining the Big4. as stupid as this sounds I don't want to become an accountant. I may have had the perception that joining the Big4 will lead me to that route. I took ACCA because I feel it will give me a hollistic and insider views of the business world.

Total blunder. I made a mistake of clicking the wrong paper for this coming exam. What should I do? OMG.
