Dear Sir/Madam
I am planning to visit Japan in late April 2011 for about 17 days and would like to get clarification on the Visa Application process. I have gone through your website and am familiar with the documents that are needed for submission.
However, there are rumours going around that to successfully apply for a holiday visa, there is a need for an applicant to have a minimum of RM8,000.00 in the bank statement for a week’s holiday, or in my case RM20,000.00 for the 17 days I am planning to go. Can you please clarify if this is true or if not, what is the minimum required? I have already planned my itinerary and my costing only amounts to approximately RM6,000.00 for my entire stay.
If a minimum of RM20,000.00 is needed, can I submit my EPF balance statement together with my bank account statement as proof?
Thank you and hope to hear from you soon.

Basically, there is no minimum amount set by the Embassy but you must show proof (in terms of sufficient bank balance) that you are capable to bear the whole expenses while holidaying in Japan. If you can show us that you have balance approximately RM6, 000 in your account, that is sufficient.
Please feel free to contact us if you need more information.

I have also called ahead and was told that the RM20k thing is a rumour and should not be believed. If concerned that the application would be rejected, can submit an example of the costing, maybe a quotation/cost for a ground tour to indicate the amount needed on a per day basis.
EDIT:

Dear Mr. Lee,
It is sufficient for you to submit your application with balance of RM6,000. It doesn't matter how long you intend to stay in Japan.
