i spent rm6.5k for 13d12n in osaka, kyoto, hiroshima, miyajima, hakone, tokyo

jr pass was real good!!
*
I also spent about the same amount but only for 9 days 9 nights in tokyo alone.

Hakone just day trip - main destination was the factory out! tongue.gif

The RM7k I spent are including air ticket, cash, accomodation, entrance to Disneyland+Disney Sea, Sanrio Puroland, train tickets, meals, souviners + minor shopping.

QUOTE(Kenki @ Dec 29 2010, 02:54 PM)
Wow, mind to share the tips how you spent in Japan? Almost all of my friends and relatives who have been to Japan said they have spent more than 10k in Japan for a week. They didn't seem to buy a lot of things though. They said living standard is very high in Japan. My auntie said it costs RM6k to rent a very small apartment in Japan.
*
I think it boils down to plan, plan, plan. Do some google or get some info from wikitravel. Plan on what you want to do, where you want to stay, cheapest way to get from airport to city, cheapest way from point a to point b, yea that's all there is to it.

I don't think living cost in japan is high at all. Food wise - a plate of sushi (2 salmon sushi on a plate - just like Sakae Sushi here) only cost about RM6 if not mistaken.

My dinner photo below - most bought from 7-11, they have a wide variety of fresh meals which you can just heat up in the microwave - delicious too and cheap! BTW, the mochi is from some mochi shop in tokyo city - forgot which one dy. I'm so in love with their 7-11. The varieties of fresh food is amazing.

Attached Image (One of the Dinner that I had)

My accomodation comes in cheap too. About RM850+- for 9 nights. biggrin.gif

Edited to add: I also did have some food at restaurants but not those fine dine high class one la. Pricing wise - comparable with Jap restaurant in KL, except that the food in Jap is much more authentic and nicer!

how much u spend depends on how u're going to live ur "lifestyle" while holidaying there. If ur plan is to spend ur days shopping in Ginza, eating at expensive restaurants and staying at 5-star hotels, then even RM15k per person is not enough. an average tourist with a decent budget of RM4-5k per person (including accommodation and food) should last at least a week in tokyo.

Agreed 100000%.

Yup, tokyo feels very safe to me. No one will bother you even though you are walking thru the small alleys also. biggrin.gif

Can anyone tell me does the Airasia flight from LCCT-Haneda have a entertainment LCD in front of the seat? Taken 7 hrs flight without radio or  movies to see is very bored.
*
Abie,

Not 100% sure but if the flight from KUL-Perth has, then KUL-HND should have la. Since going to Perth is only 4hrs also got the LCD.

I believe for all Air Asia X flights - got LCD one la.

I try to search A330 in-flight pictures but could not see the back seats have lcd screen. Anyone has taken the flight to haneda can tell me got lcd or not?

OK...I got the answer. No LCD screen on the back seat for all flight to and flo haneda. Need to pay rm30 for a portable player.
*
Otherwise, can bring your own laptop with a few d/l movies/series and watch during the flight. If run out batt, maybe can try to be nice to the stewardess if can charge your lappy or not. They are very nice one if you are nice to them. biggrin.gif

Really, we can ask for charging. i do not plan to take my notebook. its too heavy. i will bring my ipad. but one ipad is not enough to share with 3 kids (sure fighting).  Are you sure we can ask the stewardess to charge my ipad?
*
Of course you can ask them nicely if you can charge it. Can say that your children will be naughty without entertainment. I'm sure they will try their best to help you.

It never hurts to ask.

3 week with rm5k cannot meh? Even those living in Japan doesnt spend rm5k for 1 month including their rent and stuff.
*
Who can spend 5k in 3 weeks in Japan, please enlightened me. Hard to believe that this can be done.

I spent about 5k itself in 8 days incl. accomodation, food, transportation and small gifts (not including big shopping) in Tokyo. I repeat TOKYO ONLY.

I think 3 weeks maybe I will blow like 15k or more as the JR pass is already more than RM1k.

Note: A Japanese friend told me that she paid more than RM2k for a rented apartment about 20 mins from Tokyo City Centre. So I think it might be possible that they spend RM5k a month for their daily expenses/entertainment/accomodation/etc.

This rather comforting to know, especially someone who came back from there. I've been switching on and off with my trip. Just said to my mum it's off last night after saying it was on 3 days before. Now I think I'm switching back on  rclxub.gif
*
When are you supposed to fly off?

If by the time comes and everything is in order already, why not just go ahead with the trip?

It's on 8th April. Still 2 weeks to go. But judging from earlier statement, I don't see a reason anymore to cancel it. I guess the statement by RegentCid scared me a little  sweat.gif

Yea, i think by then, all should be probably half restored already. biggrin.gif Have a nice trip yea.

I hope you like it there.

Will be making a trip to Tokyo on 8 May. I will be staying in near Haneda Airport. Will do sight seeing around Tokyo from 9 to 12 May. Need to ask a few question about Tokyo.
1. Does GSM phone works in Japan?
2. What is the best mode of transport for this short stay? Do I need to get a Suica card or a weekly unlimited travel card?
3. What are the must see location in Tokyo and it's surrounding area without needing to stay overnight away from Haneda.
4. Anyone try using TFG (tokyo free guide)?
5. Does Tokyo suffer from power shortage or power rationing?

Thank you very much for reading. Please forgive me if some question seem stupid.
*
1) not sure if GSM is 3g or not but if your phone supports 3g, it should work - provided that your sim card is a 3g sim card. Anything lower than that - sorry won't work.
2) Really depends on the amount of travelling on metro/jr train. If you intend to use alot of the train, then buy the weekly unlimited card. If not, get suica card & be charged per ride would be affordable too. Plan your journey well.
3) You can see almost all of tokyo without having to stay overnight away from Haneda. Why not stay in the city itself? Why must stay in Haneda - you'll spend quite a few of your yens just to go and come back (to the hotel). If you are staying at a central accomodation - can cut down on the train rides.
4) Not sure - never used that service before.
5) Not sure.

QUOTE(JustAsking @ May 4 2011, 08:30 AM)
hi,

I would like to ask if anyone has gone through immigration/customs at Haneda Airport late night lately? How long approx did it take?

My AA flight supposed to arrive 22.30 and last Keikyu train out of Haneda is 23.20; wondering if there's any chance i can manage to catch the last train.

I only have 1 hand luggage.

thanks
*
The Japanese Immigration officers are very very competent. As long as it is not a very long queue, you should be able to get out in about 20 mins tops since you did not check in any luggage.

Edited to Add: Because of your reply, i called AA to check on the time for my flight to Tokyo - will arriving at the same hour as you.

thanks Shazzac, hope i make the last train!

But now i've checked there's a last bus from Haneda after midnite for 1000Y, more expensive than the train but much better than the taxi 6000-8000Y
*
Yea agreed.

I'm getting a little worried too.

My colleague last went to Tokyo in Jan 2011. He was saying the line at the immigration counter was really long but then again, because of the earthquake/tsunami - maybe the number of visitors have reduced hence shorter lines.

Check In luggage - he was also saying that the luggage was already brought out when he reached the luggage area.

Yup since the AA flight arrive so late in Haneda and Tokyo.. where do u suggest to stay cheaply for the night? perhaps in the suburbs?
*
Last train to leave Haneda (Tokyo Monorail) is at 12:10am (midnight). Should be able to catch that one the latest since AA will arrive at 10.30pm. I believe that from the plane to the train station should take less than 1.5hrs lor.... but not sure coz the last time I went, I flew in via Thai Airways - arriving early in the morning - ngam ngam can take the first train out of Narita.

Arriving at Haneda via AA will be a challenge for me as well since I'll be flying in Sept!

From:
Haneda-Airport International Terminal(Monorail)
Private Railroad - Tokyo-Monorail
Airport Rapid
12:10am
12:25am
[15min.] 14.0km 470yen

To/From:
Hamamatsucho
JR Yamanote Line
12:31am
12:46am
[15min.] 6.7km 160yen

To:
Ueno

This is what I gather from a search. You can still reach Ueno at 12:46am.

There will be more selections of accomodation there.

anyone know about limousine bus? .. i'll be arriving in Narita  7.30 am ... and  stays in Sakura  Hostel in Asakusa.
I'll be staying in Tokyo for 4 full days ...
*
Refer here: http://www.narita-airport.jp/en/guide/serv...ist/svc_32.html

Do use google as your search buddy.

At times it helps if you google the airport's official website for more info. They usually have all the datas there.

Else, you can always email the airport's customer service.

ok thanks ...,  i'll be staying 4  nights in tokyo , asakusa to be exact ... am wondering if 3K is enuff ..
wil be visiting  disneyland, shibuya, shinjuku , ginza , roponggi., ueno and  nearby places ..
*
Last time i changed RM3k worth of Yens but that time the rate was 0.030. But then again, I went for 8 nights!! Hehe.

For me at the time not bad, it's enough.

All inclusive some more - accomodation - transportation - food - etc. Oh yea, i even went to disneyland & disneysea & sanrio puroland! Tickets weren't cheap either, 1 is already more than RM150+. Shopping wise - half used cash and half use credit card. Afraid I would be running out of $ at that time.

You should check out Disneysea as it's the only one in the world!

btw, since u  use credit card ... what the charges .. normal?
i'm using maybank CC
*
I don't remember which CC that i used before to Japan - coz since the govt tax has been implemented, cancelled all CC already except MBB. Dun worry bout MBB CC, no extra charges will be imposed if you use it overseas. There are a few certain banks that do charge admin charges for overseas purchase - you'd just have to call them to clarify.

If not mistaken CIMB have some admin charges - at times it's like 1% of the amount charged, forgot la.

Usually for CC, they will convert currency that you charged to USD and then USD to MYR.

Hi guys, anyone here applied for Japanese Visa lately?
Anyone had any problem? My family is applying for Visa, which will take 2-3 days, but i worried that price of air tickets will increase meantime. Dont know whether should i take the risk to buy the tickets now while waiting for the Visa approval.

Planned travel date is end of June.
*
Wah, travelling end of june, now only apply for visa. U shld've applied for a visa 1 mth before travel date.

I can say it is safe to buy air tickets before applying for visa because they embassy also need to you see your flight schedule. Unless u got fren working in the travel agent and can have the booking printed out for you first.

Won't kena reject if your documents attached comply with their T&C.
