u going alone or by travel agency??
do u apply visa ady??

I travel with my elder sistah. Just the two of us.

It's by travel agent, but they only arrange the flight trip and hotel. They will also arrange the Visa for us. We just need to fill in the forms. As for the tour, it's all up to ourselves.

It's about a month and a half away from the trip. I'm kinda nervous, afraid that we might end up doing nothing there. But I got a good friend who studied there at Tokyo, maybe he could help us navigating around.

It's a quite fragile plan. That's why I hope could gather some help from you guys here. blush.gif

Hey guys, another question on Visa. This time it's the itinerary. What actually do you write in there? For myself and any other vacation I made, we never really make plans. We go and plan from there so having to write down the itinerary is quite mind boggling sweat.gif

Coolness! This kind of vacation usually u stay in Japan for how many days?

100% sure?

From what I've heard guitar is regarded as personal accessories that can be brought along into the cabin. But make sure you only bring in the guitar la, not with your handbag/backpack together.

As far as I know that's the situation in the US. But depending on the airlines as well. How bout Jap airlines?

Guys, what the weather is like during the last quarter of April there in Japan? I'll be going somewhere around that for a week trip.

And where is the best place for currency exchange here in Malaysia? From MYR to Yen?

QUOTE(oneeleven @ Mar 25 2011, 11:21 PM)
Japan is different; enjoy whatever is there. Just breathe the clean air, taste the tap water, walk around the clean streets, notice the difference in the McD afternoon promo, etc.  Walk down into the Metro -- don't need to go anywhere, just look at the huge mall. Pop into free temple and shrine gardens, watch people in Yoyogi park. Window shop 2-3 days around Shinjuku Station. Look at the manhole covers in the sidewalks. Checkout my last post yesterday.

As you can see from others' comments. this kind of travel is not for everybody. Before the big spenders scare you off, I can say I've done both high and low travel, many trips,  Shinkansen all over, lived in Tokyo and Kansai for months, and stayed in fancy onsens, and I still say it is most enjoyable just walking and exploring.

(And don't worry, if Fukushima blows up, radiation will circulate all around the world anyway.)

Wow that's a brief yet very helpful reply. Tq. Will surely browse for ur previous post.

Btw I thought tapwater is contaminated by the radiation?

Guys.

I hv a situation here.

Am going to Japan, 7 days trip, will be staying at Shinjuku Washington.

But then travel agent gave me an option to extend our stay to up to 15 days (till visiting Visa ends).

I'm kinda keen to, since I dunno when will I ever visit Japan again (doesn't hav the luxury to travel abroad every now and then, and even for this time it's just a winning ticket).

But the problem is, where to stay after the 7th day? Any kind soul here willing to sort of temporarily rent a room for cheap? sad.gif

Yes, it is very much possible. As long you know the spots to do it, Japanese are naturally an expert on this topic.  tongue.gif

http://www.kirainet.com/english/japanese-sleeping-10/

It will however give "gaijin" a bad name. So, I would recommend you try couch-surfing rather than sleeping on the streets, especially in the chilly-weather now.
The best part of Cyber Cafe is that they have unlimited free drinks. At most places, they charge for the shower use. Average cost would be between the range of 1500-2500 Yen.
*
Seriously? Didn't know that Japs practise such thing. What's a "gaijin"? Btw should safety be a concern if I were to.. Uhrmm.. Sleep on the streets for about 3 days around Shinjuku?

It feels sad to be cheap sad.gif

Btw, the term Japs is/was considered as an insult to the Japanese back then. I would politely use Japanese.

Please use Google for any definition of words that you are unsure, if that fails, then only you should ask here. Search for "gaijin" and "couch surfing" if you please.

I wonder why would anyone who are staying in Shinjuku Washington would be willing to sleep on the street. My recommendation is to downgrade your accomodation to a cheaper place, and use the extra cash to get a proper place to stay for the rest of your trip. I would recommend you to try out Ryokan, Capsul Hotel, and other type of accomodation as well.
*
Owh my bad, sorry for that (and also for my 'lazy to Googler' attitude).

And thanks bro for pointing things out. Would really appreciate all informations I could get.

The truth regarding my trip is that the air tickets and the stay at Shinjuku Washington are covered up. But that's only for a 5 days stay. However, due to this super-rare opportunity of me being in Japan, I prefer to extend my stay a few days just to get to know them Japaneses (a little, if not much) better. The cultures, the places, the people, and all.

As excited as I am in looking forward to this trip end of this month, I couldn't help but be bothered with the expenses. If it were not for the sponsor, I may not be able to set my foot in Japan my whole life. Am not from affluent family. Hence the option for sleeping on streets while backpacking around tongue.gif

But maybe I could try discuss with the agent in regards of downgrading. Thanks for the insights!

PS @ Lucidus  -- background to your trip is very interesting, and I am sympathetic, having stayed one night at the Washington long ago when I did not know where else to go!  Just an opinion -- try looking for a cheap hostel or guest house near Ueno (incl Iriya,Nippori, Minowa, Asakusa). It is an older area with plenty to see and do, food and shopping is less expensive, many transport lines even to the airport but walking distance to most things. You should have had enough of Shinjuku by then.

Hey thanks man for the suggestion. I will definitely study the map and places of interest etc for this remaining days. Previous Matta Fair did provide some help with their materials. At least I know where to start.
