just back from Japan, here's a cost summary of my trip:

Accommodation for 5 nights: RM1500 (Sakura Hotel Ikebukuro and Sakura Hotel Hatagaya). The latter is 2 to 3 mins away from Shinjuku by train

Food: Expect to spend between RM25 to RM80 for a normal decent meal not including drinks, but most sushi spots provide green tea and miso soup at minimal cost). The cheapest meal i had was RM12.

Transport: Buy the Pasmo or Suica card, its like our Touch and Go. Gets you everywhere without the hassle of buying tickets all the time.

For 5 nights, i spent a total of RM1500 on accommodation and RM2500 on everything else, including a whole bunch of souvenirs. Other than Tokyo, i also went to Hakone using the Hakone Freepass (5000yen - totally worth it). My flight was from Airasia (RM1k). Total RM5k for 5 days all in. Not bad at all. :-)

Didn't buy much only 2-3 stuff for myself, souvenirs such as magnet and t-shirt in Dotonbori, Osaka and also Sensoji area. Mostly Jalan2 meeting friends and interviews and attend my exhibition in Tokyo.

I recommend everyone get their souvenir at Sensoji. Be very friendly with the shop owner (joke and be friend with them) somehow you get discount or freebies from them.
I bought 2 shirt and the lady give me 1 free shirt. Don't forget to try their Ice Cream Biscuit too! Lots of food there you can try for 50yen-200yen..

Don't buy souvenirs in "Souvenirs Shop" in Akihabara... The price will be double or triple than the price in Sensoji.

In Dotonbori, Osaka... If you're Kansai-ben Big Fan like me... There's Glicoman shop a few meters from the infamous Glicoman signboard. You can get all the kansai-ben souvenirs there.

Yeah remember me of GLICO, got an offer for Glico ads but I have to reject it due to standby for my 3rd baby deliver huhuhu! thumbup.gif

hey hey pengantin baru hehehe...
Mmm...1st of all...to 'survive' you need a nihon go by hook or by crook...unless you are really rich (no job no worries) hehehe...Salary earn a bit hard to start...you need to find a source from outside Japan OR ask your wife then...
Like my self, I choose in hard way hehehe but its a lesson learn...oh ya IF you think you wanna make your own biz you may be you can consider to buy my http://tokyomover.blogspot.com hehehe I can teach yopu how to run the biz! flex.gif

No more pengantin baru. Its soon-to-be daddy hehehe  tongue.gif
Im just from average family, my wife on the other hand is from a decent wealthy family but with a lot of issue. To be honest, I can move straight to Tokyo without worrying what to do IF my mum in law isnt a cracked head.  Its a bit personal but i can tell you through PM.

How did you first reach Japan? and what are the things you did that's my biggest concern. If you dont mind sharing, your moving business ist profitable?  smile.gif
*
Tahniah goin to be daddy soon!
1st of all...Your parent in law and you must be ready for a new culture (both of you...hehehe)
Then shouldnt be a prob. I'm past thru the hardest way...The only Malaysian family live to survive in Tokyo hehhe everyone knows me (Japanese n foreigners but not Malaysia hehehe) I've been thru to survive with labor job, 'pasar malam' in Tokyo, but all with part time workin permit except the mover service I've done.
As said you have to choose the way of life in Tokyo...you cant compare to other prefecture (terms of living cost and culture) OSAKA & TOKYO its different place.
Salary earned & self employed is different too...IF you are choosy sort you cant work as labor if you have a chance then you cant live in Tokyo...I take everything i got...I'm an extras in famous Jap Dorama, I'm also the talent from commercial ads agencies, i'm a runner for a used car, also I'm a trader internationally online or offline and etc etc...BUT my style not like other success people using merz or BM or Ferrari hehhehe...you cant be choosy

My mover services if you continue seriously YES of course in Tokyo...how to manage it?
The only Malaysian own (online based) mover service in Tokyo. Its depend if u talking bout profitable...an example its a biz. sometime within a month u can get 100,000yen sometime you only get 10,000yen and sometime you can earn 300,000yen..its a biz dear....up and down its normal...some more your capital? its from small capital.
IF you wanna ask or learn how to survive you have to meet me in person lah bro hehehe.

I believe, Phyczz n Tatsuyachiba not start their job in Japan itself, they all from Malaysia or other places then to be in Japan..thats why they all have stable base. In other case like Musha...he also to and fro Japan. and his company now got crisis, either he goin to stay in Japan or not?

Everyone have a diff way their life in Japan either to live or to work...But you got advantage, no worries your wifey is Japanese so you will get benefits not like other gaijin, I think u got no worries as long you can accept a new life a new style, hardworkin and not choosy...surely you can live in Tokyo with no hassle. AND you must beware & properly choose with any foreigns or Malaysian to make a friends. Not all of them will be good to you hahaha!

IF you and your wife can change a new life, i recommended you not to stay in KL...try other small places 1st...
