Hi All
My most worst experience in purchasing a piece of furniture is at Macy. Please do not go there. I brought a dinning table there which is on display. When we inspect it, it was all good and we were really happy. However, as times goes by, we went back once in a while to check it because we have not ask them to delivery it because our home was still under renovation at that time. As I was saying as time goes by, slowly, there were round marks showing on the glass top and we believed its because they lift it up to move the table around (a very big and heavy glass table). Just before delivery, we realized that it has become from bad to worst but because we really loved the table so much and we renovate our dinning area to match this table, we told them specifically not to put any more pressure on the legs of the dinning table because it will sort of make the marks worst. Cut the whole story short, when it was delivered to our place, the marks are now a full filled circle instead of thin not that noticeable dots circle. When I complaint to them saying that when we first purchase it, it was not like this even up to a couple of weeks before delivery. Conclusion, they are now telling me "Too bad, you purchase a display item with no evidence of no markings when you first purchased it and here a RM50 to compensate you (which after arguing increase to RM150).
What is even worst...when I say to them RM50?? I can't even purchase a table runner with it (most of them are all RM200 and above) and to my surprise...one of the customer service on the phone told me that they have a lot with less than RM50 on her file. So what does it mean?? All Macy stores keep the cheap one somewhere and sell only the expensive ones or she is seeing the cost price of the runner??
So with evidence, they will keep quiet and just pay me back / compensate with higher compensation??
So a piece of advice, please if anywhere that you are purchasing a display item, make sure you
1. Take pictures of it as most of the time they will just tell you "bad luck you want to buy cheap things" (I did not purchase a cheap item, I still paid a few thousand (RM2k or was it RM3K) for the dinning table where the original price was about RM3700+)
2. Don't believe what they tell you - we will take care for you and will pack away very quickly / we will wrap it up for you so no one will sit on it / lay hands on it / we will make sure we will polish for you...etc
3. Don't leave the store till you see them wrap it up / go back and check have they wrap it up - if not yet, make sure you make a fuss about it and make them write a remark that they are not handling it with care on your item - you PAID in FULL so basically its your item at their premisses. They have to look after it still.
4. Before paying, make sure that all defects are put down in remarks. They love to chop in red that all display sets are as is and no warranty. BUT what will happen if its the staff's fault after you walk out of the store thinking that you have got a great item. Without that remarks, they will tell you that its your fault and blame it back on you instead.
So sorry about the long complaint and that its not on sofa. I have totally lost all confidence in Macy and I will not want to purchase anything from them again. And also I do not want anyone to get rip off by them as well. Already service sucks in their stores and furniture are not designers but expensive
Even with the cheap compensation that they have given me RM150, I don't even know what to buy with that price. I will not top up a single cent because they don't deserve it. Really, buying something should be a happy moment especially for your new home but now its a nightmare. I am glad that I have not purchase the bed and sofa with them and have cancel the 2 seater sofa which going to charge me for RM2500 for it. If I have purchase it then, I think I will be hitting myself against the wall now.
Be the nice and understanding customer, then get push around. Be that a little mean, fussy and unreasonable customer may get you the best during and after sales customer service.
PS: I am still fighting on the dinning table, at least till they replace the glass..RM150 please la...a real insult after I have hack down a wall just to make enough room for this dinning table.
