Hi Guys,

I just want to share with you my favorites. My Milestone is on its original image, got no other hacks than root. Alls Apps/Widgets are free - except one.

1.) SeePU
Gives you a CPU/Memory indicator in the taskbar. Very helpful to notice, that there is something in the background, keeping your phone busy.

2.) GDocs Notepad
What I was missing from Windows Mobile, was a notes application. I am used to have a lot of notes on my PDA. From jokes to important URLs, technical information like commands, code snippets and so on. The great thing about GDocs Notepad is, that you can sync it with your Google Docs. So you can add notes from your Computer and get it synced from the phone or vice versa. Nice just to copy and paste something and get it as a note on the phone.

3.) GTasks
GTasks is a nice ToDo list, which syncs with your Google Account. It can be used offline, like Gdocs Notepad. You just have to be online for the sync itself.

4.) Astro File Manager
The best file manager for android, works flawlessly on Milestone. A must have.

5.) ConnectBot
Very powerful SSH client and for an admin like me essential.

6.) AndChat
This is the best IRC client available for Android.

7.) BeyondPod paid
Excellent podcast manager and RSS feed reader. Can be used together with Google Reader.

8.) Meridian Player
The MP3 player of my choice - because it can still play from folders.

9.) Toggle Data Widget
Lets you switch off 3G/EDGE/GPRS from your homescreen.

10.) Network Widget
Shows your IP and the access point where you are connected to on the home screen.

11.) Market Enabler (needs rooted phone)
Lets you fake the provider, to get access to paid applications in Android Market.

Everybody is invited to share his favorites on Milestone smile.gif .

Cheers
Holger

Thanks for the interesting suggestions.

Is there a way/app for powering on/off at a set time? This is not a feature of "Profiles."

Well you could use "Cron" to shutdown the phone:

http://www.androlib.com/android.applicatio...-cron-wCAB.aspx

It lets you add jobs, which would run at a certain time. But when the phone is off, its off. No other way to start it, than physically switch it on. You would be able to use it as well, to do a reboot at a certain time.

No auto on... bummer.

Android oversight? It's nice to have alarms work even if the phone is off and a great battery saver.

Discovered HTC style "Touch" keyboard which re-enables 9 digit phone keypad.

http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/47...es-htc_ime.html

The hi-res version with prediction seems to suit my wide thumbs better because it even calibrates itself to your finger presses. I have been using ShapeWriter pretty well, but might give it up for this. Feels like taking a step backward in keyboard technology though.

After reading Android Milestone forums I learnt that the Linux core automatically takes care of task management, so Taskiller, etc. not necessary. I uninstalled all of them and it even looks like the battery lasts LONGER!

Added on March 9, 2010, 11:37 pmThe WUZHENHUA Android flv player mentioned in another thread works pretty well except that the control options are limited. Chinese language interface.

On my Milestone I use alot of these (should all be on Market) :

3banana (notes taking, kinda like Evernote with offline mode for Android)
Astrid (Task Manager, with sync with Remember The Milk)
Shopper's Paradise (Game, nice and addictive)
Aldiko (Ebook Reader)
Bloo (3rd party replacement for the official FB client, works WAY better...)
Loops (making musical loops!) (non-free, lite version available...)
Manga Droid (Reading manga...)
Exchanger (Currency exchange tool)
Hanping (Chinese <-> English Dictionary)

Just want to give a short update.

* ES File Explorer (can access network drives and does FTP -> replaces Astro)
* Radio Time(best internet radio app I have seen, even local stations are there)
* Data Link Notifier (nice widget, shows whether internet is working of not with a ping)
* And Wobble Live Wallpaper (must have for all guys and cool to show off!)
* Asphalt (This game rocks, best graphics I have seen on Milestone)

Radio over Wifi works fine. NetLadio gives TONS of Japanese stations.

@ HolgiB :

Are some on your list paid apps? Can't find by searching free Market.

TQ You answered a question I asked in another thread -- what paid apps are worth it?

I'm still happily busy exploring all the free apps I've already downloaded. Haven't browsed the (free) Market in a long time.

Any amazing new stuff? Please keep us informed.

Yup, a problem; memory on my next gen wishlist. I've had to uninstall some before adding new ones. It does force me to be more selective though instead of treating the phone like a PC filing cabinet.
