what is the benefit of study A-level but not foundation?
foundation only need 1 year but A-level need 1 and half year right?

what is the disadvantage of study A-level?
*
Hi AP.L. Basically the difference between foundation and A Levels is that one is local, and one is international. Foundation means that you'll only be able to complete your degree in that specific course in the university. For example, if you do a foundation in business at Taylor's University, you'll only be able to pursue a Business degree in Taylor's University. This means that if you complete your Business foundation and decide that you want to switch to do a degree in Multimedia, OR you want to continue your degree studies in let's say Curtin University in Perth, you won't be able to do so. For A Levels or any of our other pre-u programmes, you'll be able to do an array of degrees at any universities that you want to. That is the advantage. The only disadvantage of A LEvels is that it is 1.5 years instead of a 1 year in foundation. Our other pre-u programmes, like the South Australian Matriculation Programme and the Canadian Pre-U programme are also one year in duration. For a better understanding of the differences between foundation and pre-u, please talk to our course counsellors at Taylor's College, or you can call us at 03-5636 2641.

Wow thanks for the heaps of information Hikari. By average, does that mean there is room for improvements?

I would also like to ask, since I missed the Campus Day that was held over this weekend, when will there possibly be another information event held by Taylors again (if possible, specifically by TU)? I hope there are some after Chinese New Year.

Thanks in advance biggrin.gif
*
Hey CrimsonReapers, if you have missed our Campus Day on 8 and 9 January, not to worry, our campuses (Taylor's College Subang Jaya and Sri Hartamas) are open on weekdays (8am-6pm) and weekends (9am-4pm) till 30 Jan. Secure your places now - some subject combinations are running really low!! Hope to see you! smile.gif

SPM leaver here, I didn't take Add Maths nor Ekonomi Asas for SPM.

Do I need Add Maths and Ekonomi Asas if I were to take Maths and Economics in A Levels?
*
Hi punkysue. For economics, you won’t need to have studied Ekonomi Asas at SPM. However, in order to do Mathematics at A Levels, you’ll need to have at least an A in SPM modern mathematics. If you took Additional Maths, you’ll need to have obtained a credit. For further clarifications, please call our counselors at 03-56362641.

I've got a question.

I have already registered for Taylors' A Levels and my 4 subjects are chemistry, physics, maths and further maths. Is it possible for me to change from further maths to economics now? Will I get charged for doing so?
*
If you are a new student, within the first two weeks, you will be able to add/drop subjects with no charges and provided if there is still space in the class. We advise you to speak to our course counsellors as soon as you can, at 03-5636 2641 and let them know of your change.

A Levels is an international qualification. The key difference between foundation and A levels (or any other pre-university programme) is this – foundation, you can only pursue rour degree at that particular university you completed foundation with. It may be accepted as entry into degree programmes at other universities, but your choices will be very limited. In foundation, you’ll also have to be very very sure of the degree that you’d like to go in. For example, if you choose to complete the Foundation in Business, you’ll only be able to pursue courses in Taylor’s Business School, Lakeside Campus. If you decide after your Foundation in Business that you want to pursue an engineering degree instead, you’ll need to do another year in Foundation in Science.

Doing A Levels or other Pre-University, however, will lllow you to choose whichever degree course you want to go for (dependant on your subjects studied), at whichever university. A large percentage of our pre-university students get into the top 200 universities around the world!

Comparing ADP program to bachelor degree in USA or Canada, the 1st year in ADP is equivalent to 1st year of university or pre-university?
*
ADP is essentially the quickest route to get into American universities. smile.gif
It’s a matter of choice for students. However if you choose to do the ADP and then want to enter into universities in Australia, UK, etc… anywhere that is not Canada/America, you’ll find it more difficult. Choices will definitely be more limited than a pre-u programme.

Hi there,
I just finished my spm this year, i'm currently considering SAM in TCSJ and i'll be doing the humanities based combination like
Economics, Legal Studies, Psychology, ESL studies and REsearch Project.
Because i'll be going for degree in communication after that.
Are this subjects difficult to cope with if i enter march intake?

I was actually considering foundation for communication at lakeside,
but after visitng the counsellor, i realized that entering SAM has its advantages like the fact that we learn so much more things than entering foundation.
but the thing is i've already made up my mind to be a communication student in the future, so should i just go for foundation or should i take SAM?

thanks in advance, and happy new year smile.gif
*
Hi! If you have your sights set on a communications degree at Taylor’s University, then go for the foundation in communication course. However, if you are still deciding on which university to pursue your communications degree in next time, then we’d strongly advise you to do a pre-university instead. This would mean that you’ve got more university choices (international and local) available to you, after your graduate from pre-u.

hi,can anyone tell me more about legal studies, one of the subjects offered in SAM
and is this a good combination for further business studies?? maths, accounts, econs, legal studies and ESL..thx smile.gif

p.s: (i accidentally posted in the other thread, can u teach me how to delete it??)
*
Hey Calvin. Legal studies is about law. You will learn how the legal system works, law-making and how it responds and contributes to social change.

Business studies do not require any pre-requisite. But yes, we do recommend that you do legal studies as that will give you an idea on law and how it relates in business (there is a little bit of an overlap between business and law in your business degree in the future).

Hey all wink.gif . I just started ICPU in Taylor's and I would like to ask if it is recommended for me to take up 4 subjects in each semester ?
*
Hi Talude, you are only required to complete 6 subjects to graduate from the Taylor’s Pre-U CPU programme. There is thus no need to do four subjects in each semester. Doing three each, you’ll still complete it within a year. The English requirement is that you’ll need to complete the ENG4U in order to graduate. For more information and accurate advise, please speak to your programme office representatives, Ms Caryn or Ms Nadeline at Level 1, Wisma Subang Jaya.

I know this is off topic but i hope someone can help me out. Your help is MUCH appreciated. Thank you.

Hey Leoric012

There are a few jobs that come to mind almost immediately. You can study actuarial science, which requires you to be grounded in Mathematics, Specialist/Further mathematics, and physics. Apart from that, you can also consider a degree in engineering which would require you to do another science subject (on top of physics) – chemistry.

Hi Leoric. It’s ok to take computing at A Levels even if you do not have any prior knowledge. Teachers at pre-u level will teach you the basics of computing and then build on that. Come talk to us at our campus or visit our fan page on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Taylors-Pre-U/114584115247149!

Hi, I am new here. I would like to ask something regarding the subject offered by CAL. Must Further Mathematics be taken as 4th subject? Intially, I was planning to take Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics, 3 subjects. However, I browsed through the website and saw that statement. I am worried that if I were to take 4 subjects, I will not be able to perform very well in all four of the subjects. Therefore, I am here to seek any opinion, suggestion or advice. Thanks in advance.  biggrin.gif
*
Hi, you can do 3 subjects, without needing a fourth subjects. We generally advise students to take up a fourth subject, as for more competitive courses where places are limited, universities sometimes do look at if the student did a fourth subject and their grade for it.

Hi! Before your sister undergoes her law degree, she would need to go through a Pre-U programme first. The minimum requirement for a Pre-U Programme in Taylor's is 5 Credits in her SPM.

Drop by our Open Day on 19 & 20 March to speak to our counsellors!
