Hi guys, i got my unit from www.hidevolution.com, very friendly representative named Ted liaised with me, i got the RBBX05 version with 2GB RAM upgrade, shipping fee is 111.25USD with no tax or any kacau from kastam, delivery take 3-4 working days vis USPS express which is trackable, before you buy i would advice you to confirm with your representative on the LCD screen, Asus uses LCD from 2 manufacturers for G73JH RBBX05 model which came with the 1600x900 resolution, namely AUO and LG, AUO is having inferior verticle viewing angle and slightly less vibrant colors compared to LG, you can ask your representative to verify them before buying, please refer to the link below to know how to identify the LCD manufacturer, as for other models that came with Full HD resolution you have no such worries as it's all manufactured by Hesstar.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/48064...-found-way.html

As for warranty, RBBX05 model comes with 1 year international warranty only but somehow when i called Asus service center in Malaysia they say it's 2 years for all laptops, well i certainly hope it is the latter.

Another thing to consider before buying is you have to put up with some driver incompatibility between Windows and ATi (in short its called bulls***), the big hoo haa is that the G73JH came with the notorious GSOD (Grey Screen of Death) or in some worst case it comes with PSOD (psychedelic screen of death), regardless of the model you're getting, the GSOD/PSOD issue only happens when you're not using stock display driver (Catalyst 9.12), this issue can mostly be fixed with a vBios update, but it's rather dangerous because if you flashed the wrong ROM your laptop LCD will not display anything (even BIOS).

Please note that i personally don't recommend flashing, there are ways to fix GSOD with non-stock driver but it doesn't work 100%, so before you even think of flashing please try this:

1) Uninstall creative audigy audio utilities
2) Use latest Realtek drivers (I had problem using this driver, when headphone is plugged in the speakers isn't disabled)

For more guides on how to debug your GSOD issue before flashing please refer here

http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/48868...bug-thread.html

If everything else fails, a comprehensive guide on vBIOS flashing can be found here

http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/48249...date-guide.html

Note that they say the laptop could be blind flashed but field reports from notebook review suggest that it's not possible to blind flash your vBIOS because if you are having a faulty vBIOS your G73JH laptop will somehow get stuck during boot time

http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/49203...-g73-vbios.html

If all else fails, you might want to consider sticking to Catalyst 9.12 until Asus sends a chopper to the rescue. (an official vBIOS maybe?)

For me i took great risk in flashing, i actually selected a different vBIOS to flash because i want overdrive and HDMI features. The vBIOS i'm using is from the link below.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/49256...-powerplay.html

Thank god everything works great for me now, my G73JH and i have been through great turmoil and hence our love has grown stronger than ever smile.gif best of luck guys in your quest for the ultimate steal of the year laptop!

It'll reach the hands of our national pride - POSLAJU , and they'll usually take off the next day it is dispatched from Kastam, the courier van will leave 8.30am in the morning and return to base at 6pm, the operating hours for POSLAJU is 8.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Saturday (i check the website says 9.30pm but the Poslaju representative told me its 6.30pm, so better be safe than sorry), so if you remember your tracking number just visit the nearest POSLAJU to your house after 6pm, since it's after office hours, better wait there earlier.

I think in notebookreview someone mentioned that you have to install Realtek Drivers twice since the 1st time you install it it only removes the old drivers when you install the second time it will work fine. I've tried it and it worked. =) Since when I first got my laptop seems like the reseller has uninstall creative for me cos I couldn't find any program named "creative", and when I plugged in my headphone I have the same problem. The sound was coming out from the subwoofer. Then I install the realtek drive one more time and the problem is solved. No sound coming from the subwoofer anymore. Hope that helps. =)
*
Oh thanks! i'll try that, because the bass boost function is enabled in Windows 7 sound enhancement with latest Realtek driver, really make a big difference for the tiny sub, btw what they meant by the creative driver is named audigy something something in add/remove program.

Added on July 5, 2010, 7:15 pm

Oh my bad, once the Realtek is installed the bass boost is gone, so i assume the bass boost function only exist in Windows 7 default driver, for me, that causes hangups even using windows sad.gif

Thanks for the clarification of the Creative software but I still couldn't find any program with the term "audigy" in it. =P Well doesn't bother me much as my laptop is still functioning properly (fingers crossed). Oh yeah now I remember that you'll lose the bass boost thingy if you uninstall creative software. But the speaker is still good to me. I'm happy with it. =)
*
No i mean the default windows bass boost, it's way better than what creative software have to offer, more "punchy" compared to creative bass boost, well for the audigy software you'll only see it when you restore it to factory default, i can't reinstall right now because i don't even know where to download it, and i can't be bothered, theres nothing i miss about it haha, attached is the bass boost for windows 7, try uninstall your realtek and use the default windows 7 drivers, choose high def audio device and enable the bass amplification for 100hz 15db.

Maybe you can read up on this headphone too

Speedlink Medusa NX 5.1 Headset

Its a USB 5.1 headphone and RM300 from eBay.

i actually wanted to get this because it have vibe feedback for bass and its relatively affordable, but then i prefer clearer audio for listening music so it makes more "senns" for me to go sennheiser

Priority mail and Express mail is both from USPS, should be able to get it by the 17th if you buy now

here's what i get for priority mail vs express mail from wikipedia

Express Mail - "Overnight Guaranteed" to most locations[54]
Sunday and holiday delivery available for additional charge
$100 insurance included
Flat rate envelope available. Otherwise, variable pricing by weight, size, and ZIP code.
Priority Mail - 2 or 3-day service (not guaranteed)[54]
Flat rate envelope and boxes (various sizes) available. Otherwise, variable pricing by weight, size, and ZIP code.

I shipped my G73JH-RBBX05 from california for USD111.25 so i assume there isn't much price different, A1-A2 model will be USD149 for USPS express because it comes with backpack, this is according to shipping quotation from www.hidevolution.com.

as a matter of fact, slappa is a much better choice if just for laptop... tonnes of good review with it.... 100%fit g73jh

slappa backpack: http://www.slappa.com/MASK-KOA-Backpack

slappa hard case side carry: http://www.slappa.com/hardbody-laptop-case?sc=2&category=133

but i'm looking for a camera + laptop bag, that can fit multiple lenses
*
Thanks for the recommendation bro, i was initially thinking Slappa too, but i read online it says the velcro couldn't buckle

M.A.S.K KOA for Asus G73JH Review

Sorry can't help you on a backpack that can fit your cameras, i've got trouble finding suitable backpack for that laptop itself while i was hunting last time.

if anything helps at all the laptop measurement for G73JH-A1 i get from www.ebags.com says

16.6"L 12.8"W 2.3"Thickness

Is there any thread for G73JH owners like the Alienware mothership? I like to state my name as one proud owner of a G73JH-A1, and discuss about performance of this machine, it's problems and solutions etc. Oh yea, i managed to solve the famous GSOD problem already (using latest catalyst 10.7 and new vbios), and running very cool after reapplying tim (ICD7). Cheers...
*
May i know what's your idle/load temp after ICD7?

And possible to apply myself without voiding warranty?

I mean new vbios is the one i modded myself using Radeon bios editor. I unlocked ati overdrive, set the overdrive to run at 800/1100. GSOD never occur again, even in dragon's age origin or any game. I even ran furmark to trigger GSOD but even after 10 minutes it never happened (ICD7 kept it @85c max). Now I can install latest catalyst without any side effect. HDMI, vga all working. Oh yea, I applied ICD7 myself. Scared at first bcuz im not even a computer expert!!! But it all went easily...
*
nice, can u attach ur bios here so ppl can test? i'm using custom bios too with hdmi, powerplay and overdrive enabled, yea i shud try disassemble too following this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tp90M_N6dzs

Chastity from NBR even had problems with her re-paste. After reading several threads where user's attempted to do a re-paste they screwed up the laptop even further particularly the keyboard. It's easy to obtain a replacement keyboard in the US but not down here in Malaysia. I'm just wondering if it's worth all the trouble just to re-paste the TIM when it could all be a timing issue with the Vrams that can be resolved from an updated vbios.
*
I think GSOD has less to do with TIM re-paste, here's my guide to solve your GSOD

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&#entry34776771

But if you ever need TIM re-paste just send it to ASUS they'll do it for you

Added on August 12, 2010, 1:57 pmUpdates on temp: last night i tried putting laptop on coolerpad coolermaster Notepal X2, idle/load at 62c/75c, clockspeed 750/1000, previously i get max 88c cos was putting laptop on top of pillow, well i guess it's good enough, i'm using Ziddy's V3 vBios from NBR and experiencing black SOD on Catalyst 10.7a, nerodante can you please share your vBios?

Nice thanks alot Nero, can you briefly explain what you did in the vBios?

Added on August 12, 2010, 4:19 pm@Nerodante80: bro, may i know is your powerplay working? and what did you actually tweaked to fix the GSOD? is it just enabling powerplay? btw, i'm checking Ziddy's V3 vBios

http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gamin...-powerplay.html

and his voltage is lower 1.05v for default clock and 0.9v for 200/500, i'm running his vbios, maybe that explains why my idle temp is higher than yours but my load temp stays below 80.

"First when you flash with ATi WinFlash and you get a fail notice. DO NOT RESTART YOUR COMPUTER. First flash it again with WinFlash with the default bios, until you get success. Then restart and either use DOS method or reflash with WinFlash."

does it mean that if i flashed the wrong vBIOS i have a chance to undo it by flashing back my stock vBIOS?

@Viperion: sorry bro i didn't get the chance to see them applying the TIM, i sent my laptop there primarily to change they keyboard and speakers, my keyboard have the space bar coming off and speakers have distortion, they took a day to fix them all including applying the TIM while i wasn't there and i went picking it up the next day.

I'm still on the stock vbios mate. If you want a modded vbios the best bet is to check the link below and follow the instructions EXACTLY!

Ziddy's Vbios v3

Added on August 13, 2010, 6:30 pm

@evern > Just noticed your question here  blush.gif

If you get a failed message whenever flashing from windows, DO NOT REBOOT your unit or you WILL BRICK IT!

If you get a failed message, keep using the Winflash program and try flashing back the original stock bios until you get a flashed successful result. It's always advisable to flash in DOS mode than windows because the windows environment is not stable and sometimes causes errors during flashing. Sorry for the late reply  tongue.gif
*
Thanks viperion, no problem as i'm still not sure whether to try other vBios, i'm on Ziddy's right now, no GSOD but laptop freezes, but with the chance of getting to know whether the vBios is a successful flash or not maybe it's better to do it with Winflash, but if there isn't any error message, can we say that the flash WILL NOT brick your lappy?

Yes, but I cannot confirm as I have not attempted to flash my vbios yet. I'm still on the fence but I will decide after I replace my thermal compound to IC Diamond. I'm not really having issues with GSODs as I don't have much time to game but when I do it rarely GSODs on me. Even if it does, I turn on AMD GPU Clock tool, hit 705/1100 and set clock and all the GSOD vanishes tongue.gif

I reckon Asus will come out with an official vbios soon as NBR is heating up with replies from an official Asus Technical Manager acknowledging the issue and promising a solution from both ATI & Asus is in the works. After my TIM repaste and if I still get GSODs without an official solution from Asus I will flash my vbios as a last resort tongue.gif
*
Let us wish for the best it's just a vBios issue, and not because of the low quality RAM module on the graphic card, btw ppl in NBR says that the clevo vBios solves the issue but leaving hdmi output out, Ziddy's vBios is tweaked from official hence doesn't really solve the problem.
