anyone planning to order G73Jh, hold it first...
they will come equipped with Seagate's latest HDD, Momentus XT, which is a hybrid drive... on top of the capacity and 32MB cache found in Momentus 7200.4 drives, Momentus XT comes with 4GB read-only NAND chips as well... brief intro at DailyTech and benchmark at AnandTech basically, i would put it as eliminating bottleneck (as someone puts it) without cost u an arm and a leg... QUOTE(Mr.Docter @ May 26 2010, 01:09 PM) not bad.. in fact, great news Seagate and Samsung tried to do so back in 2007...to be perfectly honest, this is my first time hearing about hybrid drives... iirc they come with 1GB flash memory... but even that proves to be too expensive and too little performance gain... actually HHD is the biggest reason y Seagate never commit to 10k rpm HDD... i think it's a worthy upgrade for performance laptops though... QUOTE(Jeffrey1987 @ May 26 2010, 01:23 PM) I have read this before at Engadget but the most concerned part of this technology is the PRICE. It may costs you an arm and leg. half an arm and leg perhaps, compared to SSD??? anyway, the MSRP for Momentus XT is US$113, US$132 and US$156 for 250GB, 320GB and 500GB respectively... compared to Momentus 7200.4, which are (e-tailer price) US$55, US$55 and US$85 respectively i think the 250GB model should hit US$100 once it hit the shelves... still, cheap compared to SSD... |

regarding the last part, Seagate has spent at least the last 4yrs developing their own algorithm to do that, base on their experience with conventional HDD...
and from the benchmark, it seems that (to me at least) they ve done it pretty well... unless SSD can drop to at least US$1/GB (even that is still expensive if u ask me), it will still remain as a premium item... |

well, we dun ve the luxury of 2 HDD bays... thus HHD is the only way without burning a hole in our wallets, while still having large capacity...
basically for the price of ur 40GB SSD, u can grab a Momentus XT 500GB from newegg... |

we ve a happy man here...
anyway, as much as some may like the rubberized surface, one problem with it is that it is not as scratch resistant as normal plastic... |
