My housing estate in Johor has been using an underground fiber optic system since more than ten years ago. The short connection from a main underground cable behind the house to the phone socket is probably using copper. There is no wire exposed. All wires are either underground or in the wall. A few years ago, my ADSL modem and a powerline Ethernet adaptor connected to it were still burnt, probably due to lightning, as I cannot find another reason for the connector to turn black.

10 Megabit - up to 5++MegaBytes/sec of download
1 MegaBit - up to 170 KiloBytes/sec  of download

5 MBps = (5 x 8) Mbps = 40 Mbps

Does a 10 Mbps subscription give 40 Mbps of download speed?????

example 1 million streamyx users migrate to hsbb. TM provides dedicated bandwidth for each user (pure 10Mbps per user)

1,000,000 users x 10Mbps = 10,000,000 Mbps = 9765.625 Gbps

TM should have that amount of bandwidth for international link. since TM got only 300-400Gbps, well I guess I expect really slow connection (similar to 1Mbps) to international site biggrin.gif

We do not use the full capacity of our links, do we? I have a 512 Kbps subscription with TM, which gives 400 Kbps to 520 Kbps of downlink speed quite consistently. My usage is at most a few hundred MB a month, which is in average (500 MB x 8 b/B) / (30 days x 24 hours/day x 3600 seconds/hour) = 0.00154 Mbps. Of course, my active time may be only 30 minutes a day, resulting in a more realistic 0.074 Mbps of average bandwidth consumption.
